I'm French and I'm from Paris, so I thought myself immune to the Paris syndrome as I thought I was a realist when it came to big cities being shit.
But Seattle broke me. Not because of its crime, but because of its truly depressing absence of soul. It is a city of 40 something year old engineers that thought they could enjoy the vibes but ended up with just each other and the shitty weather. The people are as depressing as the weather. When all the adventure and magic disappears into the routine of a life that has nothing to it besides its permanently steady state of going to work as an engineer, going back home to a sexless households with annoying fricking kids 'till the day you die. No hustle, no fun, no nothing. The only exciting thing there is shooting yourself in the head
I just got a very attractive job offer in Seattle and this kind of worries me.
>tfw it's in engineering
seattle is an absolute sausage fest, especially if you work in tech, only place that tops it is silicon valley, with that said if you are getting big bucks it's still worth it, just have realistic expectations for dating and the cucked culture
>seattle is an absolute sausage fest
>In the city the population was spread out, with 15.6% under the age of 18, 11.9% from 18 to 24, 38.6% from 25 to 44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 12.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females, there were 99.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.8 males.
>For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.8 males.
>>For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.8 males.
You realize this counts geriatrics, and the female life expectancy in the US is about 5 years longer than it is for men?
Also, you realize that when people say that a "city has no women", what they actually mean is that the women in a specific socio-economic class of a certain age and attractiveness level is relatively low compared to the men with those qualities?
Enjoy robbing the grave you autistic moron.
It counts geriatric men, geriatric women, baby girls, baby boys, boomers, zoomers, xers, and ww2 guys. Let's list off all the possible demographics under the category "everyone"
lol no its not
>t. dating someone in seattle
have you considered you're just unfrickable
This, being a single straight man in seattle and the bay area is playing on nightmare mode.
Unless you grew up there or somehow managed to build a robust and exciting social life in your late 20s, get ready to either settle for a girl 2-3 points less attractive than you or go full incel
glad its not just me. the inflated egos here are insane and many people are just boring af and dont even know it.
I moved to Phoenix a few years ago and have dated girls that would have been waaaayyy out of my league back in SF. Plus everyone is much friendlier and every single person you meet doesn't work in tech. It's refreshing. Highly recommend.
try to make the job remote, seattle fricking blows dude
Geneva would be the closest one, althugh I wasn't there for long. Just not as nice as you would expect from Switzerland (granted French Switzerland).
Sounds likeIreland, which is fitting given the similar climates
Why do you say that about Ireland anon? Apart from the weather they don't seem that similar. What was your experience there?
Yeah, I was going to say the PNW in general, every town I went to felt psychically poisoned, except Bend and maybe Grants Pass. Certain natural areas were very nice though
Lol what? Seattle is a lovely city. Always enjoyed visiting there. You must be a complete homosexual lmao
Not him but can concur its a fricking toilet. Portland too.
Family is from Seattle. Have watched the city rapidly decline over the past decade. Can confirm it's a fricking toilet overrun with vagrants and techgays.
Same I lived in Seattle for years as a kid/teen, always wanted to move back but have accepted it’s just not going to happen unless it’s two decades from now and they’ve somehow turned their shit around
Visiting =/= living. You can go to any world-class city in the planet and have the time of your life as a tourist provided you're not a complete moron. Lovely cities are the ones where the experience of living there is pleasing. Other factors such as your daily routine, the locals, the outdoor culture and its compatibility with you have to be taken into account.
Unironically take your meds. Seattle was once a great city but it's problems are not because of the weather.
Unequivocally based and truth pilled about Seattle.
saigon is fricking massive dude
if you live in d2 it's a total shithole (why would you ever live near the foreigners who unironically order starbucks kek) and if you live in go vap you're gonna see some wild ass poverty
overall though it's a pretty sick city
both hanoi and saigon have terrible air quality, the mass of mopeds and crowds was too much for me, started feeling claustrophobic in both cities with days
ngl you kind of sound like a pussy but to each his own
>I'm French and I'm from Paris, so I thought myself immune to the Paris syndrome as I thought I was a realist when it came to big cities being shit.
To add a minority opinion, I was just in Paris, and absolutely fricking loved the city.
1. Seemed somewhat immune to US cultural imperialism. Unlike the rest of the world's bland, sterilized cities. I'm a proud American, but am sick of seeing American culture everywhere I go.
2. People smoking/vaping everywhere, doing what the frick they want. Unlike the rest of the world's nanny states. A literal breath of fresh air.
3. Thin, fashionable women. Unlike the US/UK/Aus.
4. Beautiful cafes everywhere
5. Great food (obviously)
6. Boutiques w/ less globohomosexual corps.
7. Immigrants were nice, through I stayed in city center only.
8. Montmartre has to be the most beautiful neighborhood in the world.
>through I stayed in city center only.
you're a pajeet aren't you
Nope. Just meant I loved Paris, but did not spend any time in the banlieues. Why the frick would you go there?
The fricking numbered list gave it away. Then you jump to defend yourself. "Why would you go there". Lmao you feel you've been hit below the belt because you've been found out. Post hands brownoid.
There’s absolutely no reason to go to Parisian suburbs except for Versailles and Fontainebleau, and these are very posh anyway.
Anyone saying Paris is crap usually doesn't know much about travel in general.*
Paris is a place where people do not give a frick about you because they don't have to. Service workers and workers in general have relatively better rights than in most anglo-saxon countries. So no fake smiles nor outstanding service, especially since the tip isn't expected (and isn't high in general). The customer may be king, but the French have a history of beheading nobility.
The general populace knows better than to interact with you because interactions in a world class city aren't you do unless you want to create some rapport that will later aid in scamming you. Other interactions include sexual harassment, panhandling, and so on. A Parisian not talking to you is a Parisian that means you no harm. This is also true of bigger cities such as NYC, LA, etc.
Paris was and still is a capital of the arts. Paintings, sculptures, opera, drama, gastronomy, this is what you're looking for in Paris. You go there with your girlfriend, you take a nice appartment near the Seine and take the bateau-mouche. There's no way you won't enjoy yourself if you focus on the following. I really don't get what the frick you guys do in Paris. Talk to people ? lmao
>Talk to people ? lmao
Talking to locals is how you get a real feel for a place that is unknown to you. And Parisians are disgusting
>do not give a frick about you because they don't have to. Service workers and workers in general have relatively better rights than in most anglo-saxon countries.
This is a prime example of European delusion. I'm actually struggling to find words to explain why giving shitty service is not a good thing, because I knkw you will refuse to accept it.
Servers are not your personal slaves. They are there to take your order and bring you your meal. That’s their job and if you think it’s shit service it’s you who have a problem
>Servers are not your personal slaves
Yeah, you don't get it.
>Servers are not your personal slaves. They are there to take your order and bring you your meal. That’s their job and if you think it’s shit service it’s you who have a problem
It's one thing to deal with an anglo woman barking orders in english at you like you are her slave
It's another to be a lazy piece of shit (majority of service workers in France)
>anyone saying paris is crap usually doesn't know much about travel in general
Anyone who has actually seen the rest of the country knows why Paris is absolute dogshit. Paris cannot hold a candle to the Riviera, nor can it compete with Bordeaux or the charms of any of its smaller towns like Colmar or Saint Emilion. It's got good food, a few landmarks to check off a list and that's it. Hell, even the best part of Paris is it's least Parisian section at Mont martre
>just take your gf to babys first international vacation and enjoy because she won't know any better
pleb
>you talk to people when you travel?
You don't?
>you won't get outstanding service because service workers have better rights
This makes me want to say you've never been to Paris. Their mentality is to not bother you, not to provide shit service. They'll actually be knowledgeable about their menu and make good recommendations, they just won't lord over you every two minutes like in America. The whole "french = shit restaurant and cafe service" meme is almost a dead giveaway that the poster has never actually been to france.
>So no fake smiles nor outstanding service, especially since the tip isn't expected (and isn't high in general).
As an autistic Finn, this was one of my favorite things about Paris.
I walked to the north train station and it was like walking from Europe to Africa
sounds kino, going to book a ticket for next month and spend a couple days at the museums and art galleries.
>People smoking everywhere
>A literal breath of fresh air
> people smoking everywhere, giving the world lung cancer
if you think this only happens in Paris and don't realize this is the norm in all of eastern Europe and Asia, i don't know what to tell you except that this must have been your first trip outside the US
I fricked a 19 year old blonde green eyed cutie from Austria who was otherwise hot but her front teeth were already yellow brown stained from excessive cigarette abuse
The Pacific Northwest fricking sucks. The people are such fricking homosexuals
This. The nature is amazing but everyone is such a stuck up c**t high off their own farts
What's so special about the weather / climate in Seattle?
The temperatures are normally mild, but it rains a lot. It's kind of like the UK of America in that regard. Rain is a very polarizing weather phenomenon.
Seattle is pretty bad but the views by the water and the natural beauty outside the city are second to none.
Basically this, but for every Commenwealth city outside of GB. Cities like Auckland and Sydney just feel like dead cities for Europeans.
Whit*oids are a conquered people, everywhere except Russia . God bless and protect Vlad The Putin
shut up vatnik
did you get your 1 kopek for this post?
bump
Wait until you visit Portland.
Just drive to Vancouver and meet Canadian qts, you autist
i found wiesloch in november to be somewhat dull
> Goes to bumfrick nowhere german countryside shithole
> for a holiday
> in november
> complains it's dull
You can't make this shit up.
I'm currently on holiday in the middle of bumfrick nowhere Germany (near Kassel) and the region is absolutely gorgeous.
Paris is nice. It should be named Italy syndrome
I traveled to Campania with a friend and I think the chaos and trash in Naples was a bit much for him.
I think it was a matter of expectations. I was expecting it while he, being from Catalonia, thought the tales were just exaggerations about Southern Europe again.
Frick I'm going to Italy tomorrow, I was able to tolerate Portugal so it can't be too bad
Stay away from the south. North Italy is peak comfy. South Italy is bottom trash
Apulia is fricking awesome.
If it's in the south, it's automatically shit
>Beijing
>view
If you consider smog covered atmosphere as a 'view', sure. It must look quite surreal I bet
>If it's in the south, it's automatically shit
Apulia is not Naples or Messina
There is nothing I hate more than crowded beaches
Naples is very different from most of Italy, even other cities in Campania feel different.
Where did you go that you found it so bad? I've only been to the north and it's very clean and idyllic. I'm going to Rome this August.
>where did you go
South. The term "went south" was invented for Italy since everything south of Rome is terrible.
I highly doubt that. I've only really heard bad things about Naples, but nothing like that of anywhere else. It isn't like the southerners have some sort of a gene for putting shit everywhere, the north is full of them and they all run business, mostly in relation to food.
t. have an Italian gf and have lived close to Milan for nearly a year on and off
Lmfao. Paris is utter shit. I've been there in 2008, 2014 and 2018. It's only been getting worse. Feels like I'm walking through one big toilet.
my wife, when we went to california
i had already been there many times for work so i knew the situation
but she hadn't and she thought it was going to be like a beach boys video from the 60s, smily happy people, plus shopping on rodeo drive, plus hollywood glamour, all that kind of thing
i mean, there are some nice places when you get away from the cities. but she wasn't really ready for all the drugs and yelling darkies and homeless people
Holy shit I’m from CA and I’ve never really seen homeless people alongside regular houses and apartments, where is that?
Caligay here.
What part of cali are you in? They act like this in every major city from LA to Sactown
this. i've had homeless try to set up tents in my front yard.
Holy shit, what did you do? That doesn't happen in Florida, I'm sure you can guess why.
>That doesn't happen in Florida, I'm sure you can guess why.
ha ha
pasadena is comfy
At some point people are going to realize that gas chambers are the only solution to this shit.
or you could invest in wellness programs and affordable housing instead of spending the budget of a small country into policing and hoarding thousands of empty houses
you know solutions that have been proven to work world over?
but hey - your first reaction is to turn to literal Nazism just proves everybody right about the likes of you
California spends a frickton on welfare and it hasn't helped. Many of these vermin refuse the help they're offered.
>Virtue signaling this hard on an anonymous Bhutanese Basket-Weaving board
Are you legitimately ignorant, or are you just willfully refusing to acknowledge the reality in which you live? Many states, California the undisputed ur-example, have fricking *ruined* themselves by falling into the trap that there's a point that you'll have finally thrown enough money at this issue to make it go away.
>invest in wellness programs and affordable housing
Cool. Who pays for this shit? I ask because I have zero fricking interest in doing so, and most functional, contributing members of society feel the exact same way as I do, hence the mass exodus from socialist dystopias like California; it would be fair and appropriate to say that California and israelite York are hemorrhaging population at this point.
Social assistance and welfare initiatives are meant to be short-term solutions, not lifestyles indulged in indefinitely, and states where tent cities full of mentally ill bums is the norm, probably shouldn't be giving handouts to and rolling the red carpet out for """""refugees""""" or """""migrants""""" or """""undocumented citizens."""""
Stop making excuses for people who refuse to even try to help themselves, and would rather just prey on the good nature of others. Compassion and empathy are essential to any functional society, but so is some measure, some semblance, some standard of personal accountability, which blue states simply do not have...
Which would be fine if you c**ts would have the integrity lay in the beds you've made, rather than try to relocate to different states so you can ruin them, too, but that's not the case.
Or actually, in keeping with the "Paris Syndrome" theme of the thread, consider what your kind of thinking has done to Portland, Oregon; people go there expecting the sort of quirky, endearingly insufferable white people shit they've seen watching Portlandia... and nah, it's all just boarded up businesses, tent cities, and playgrounds w/ used needles in the sandboxes.
or you know just raise the minimum wage.
You deserve what's coming.
Went to CA twice last year for the first time. Aside from the tent cities I had an awesome time. I dont know what you guys did but I got the exact vibe that your wife got.
My entire family including me experienced the exact same as your wife when we want to Los Angeles for our west coast trip of the US. (we're from euro country)
We were expecting a big bustling city where trends were started such as hippie-surfer culture, the Hollywood walk of fame. I expected it to be luxurious, sorta like Geneva, Nice and Monaco. I expected people to be insanely rich and that it'd show throughout the city. I expected creativity.
Instead I got four days of the shittiest, dirtiest, most disgusting place I've ever been to. I've been to developing countries but none of the countries were as dirty as Los Angeles. Addicts 'n hobos galore. Dirty junk everywhere. Everything was overpriced. Felt unsafe everywhere as well.
Venice beach was so fricking dirty, my god. Seriously, poor Turkish beaches with the fraction of the GDP of LA look ten times better. French beaches that you people would classify as "shitty" looked like paradise in comparison.
After that we drove to Las Vegas. That was so much better.
It was like an opposite Paris Syndrome, I was expecting some run-down city filled with criminals, hobos and shitty casinos.
Instead I got the strip that was kept clean with lots of activities to do. Felt safe as well.
I get that it might be shit outside the strip but it was so refreshening.
underrated post
LA is one of the dirtiest and most dysfunctional cities in the US. I reckon its probably not too far off from Manila. Venice is also known to be one of the dirties and most vagrant infested places in the area, its known as a place to go if you want to see some shit happening but unlike a lot of California, Venice has kind of always been this way. One of the issues is so cal is very gimmicky and a lot of the places that show as "must do" tourist attractions are actually terrible, example- the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Don't even bother.
Vegas is based, my only complaint is you can smoke in casinos.
I've been to LA and Manila for at least a week each in the last three years, and you wanna know some truly tragic shit? LA is significantly worse than Manila.
I've heard Manila has also gotten a lot better as far as air pollution, traffic, etc.
One of my friends from europe says the wealth disparity is much more obvious here. Switzerland looks well maintained even in the poor areas. Mexico kind of looks like shit all over. But the US and California specifically has parts that look like Mexico and parts that look like Monaco within a few miles from each other.
>One of my friends from europe says the wealth disparity is much more obvious here
Yeah, LA county is essentially a micro third world country where the "middle class" hardly exists
what do poor people in Switzerland even look like? The poor people in the US are absolute freaks who are like a different species of violent muttbomination. I imagine Swiss poor people are just regular Swiss people with worse clothes and houses.
>what do poor people in Switzerland even look like?
Albanians living in commie blocks
I've heard Albanians are like white Black folk, but I can't imagine they're even 1/10th as bad.
I was shocked by the number of amputees I saw in LA, swear to frick every other homeless junkie was missing a limb.
diabetes, meme insulin prices cut all the way down to the junkies. That or gangrene/infection from habitual drug use
I had reverse Paris syndrome going to socal but I went straight from san diego airport to Idyllwild so didn't see any of the shitty parts
I'm kinda curious why you'd fly all the way to go there. Idylwild is a cool spot and I like riding my motorcycle up there, but its not a very big or interesting area and I'd probably get bored after more than a day or 2.
visiting family. also coming from florida it would take a while for me to get tired of the mountains
How did things get so bad in my short lifetime?
If things can get bad that fast, they have the potential to become good fast as well....right?
Yeah like overnight all the coloreds will disappear, all the roastie femc**ts will lose 200 pounds and become trad and all the beta b***h queerboys like you will become boomerchads you naive little boy
Lol I wish.
What I mean is that New York was a shithole in the 70’s, then it got good and now it’s bad again.
Is it the drugs?
It took 20 years of addressing quality of life issues to get New York to be a sorta nice place.
The democrats turned it back into a shithole in just one summer just to spite the president.
Do you not realize NYC is mostly blacks and latinaxes? Lmao you redditoids are something special
>How did things get so bad in my short lifetime?
N
sovl
Anyone else already so numb to the current age they expect Paris syndrome everywhere? I mean Riga is pretty much the only "major" city i've seen with a rich architecture and incredibly safe without anyone trying to scam me.
Any (semi-)developed place which isn't too touristy should be fine, tbh. I can really recommend South Korea if you get a bit off the beaten path. Same for rural Germany.
Stonewall.
My lesbian friend and I went to see stonewall because its part of gay history or something. It was just an overpriced, poorly managed bar. It isn't the worst case of Paris Syndrome in this thread, but it was pretty disappointing:
>Clean, but really run down. A fresh coat of paint is really needed, as are some cosmetic repairs to the floors and bathrooms
>Most bars offer free water, especially if you are drunk. SW charged $5/bottle with no tap option.
>Bar space is very limited
>Gimmicky performances to bring in crowds distracts heavily from the history of the bar
>Drinks are fairly priced... for a tourist bar, but not for a gay bar.
>They had some cool stuff on the wall (like the original raid paperwork), but it was too dark to see it and too crowded to read it
>Plaques and displays were very difficult to read. You can't print in black ink in a dark club and put it on the wall without giving the display a light
>Short staffed, hard to get a drink. 2 bartenders per floor on a crowded weekend night during pride during tourist season is very understaffed
>bottom floor is a dive bar, top floor is a party bar, which is a nice touch
>Dance floor on the bottom floor is way too small. They also have a covered pool table that seems to never actually be used
>They won't let you count a $30 T-shirt towards the two drink minimum. I've never seen that before in any bar.
>No POS system between floors, you cannot open a tab on the bottom floor and keep it running at the top floor, it is almost like two separate bars
It is not the worst bar I have been to, but it is fricking Stonewall, it is a world famous gay bar. I really expected better
t. Totally straight anon
The homosexual lifestyle isn't exactly known for it's longevity, doesn't surprise me that it's "cultural" landmarks reflect this.
>t. Totally straight anon
I hate you “allies” the mosr
God hates you, gay enabler. You will burn in the fire with your pervert "allies"

New York City
I live in a third world country, but NYC actually made feel like I was in a third world country when I was there.
Welcome to the Western world. Courtesy of da jooooos
Philadelphia never ceases to disappointment in being a complete cesspool. Every time I visit, I get Paris Syndrome over and over again. It just gets exponentially worse each time. I mean what the frick.
I've never seen a place like this anywhere in the world, and I've been to some third world shitholes. Literal zombie apocalpyse.
i went to philly as a young lad,
maybe 15 -20 years ago. im sure the opiod zombie mass is growing, but i remember having a great time there, but we were staying somewhere fancy, did a traditional colonial tourist tour and like a bus tour. Everything was cool, but was only 2 days there and were there for a graduation
how much for the crack prostitutes
Born and raised in Philly, I had a bit of reverse Paris syndrome when I went to Mexico City- it was somehow less of a shithole than what I expected, even in the ghetto areas.
That's the joke, Mexico has been sending us their worst citizens for decades.
captcha:H8WYT
I concur, Mexico City was unfathomably based.
Holy frick. I thought where I'm from in Yurop is bad but yeah... holy frick
As someone from a dumpy industrial city, I always kek a little whenever I hear Europeans complain somewhere over there being unsafe. I felt more at ease in post-Soviet ghettos in Bulgaria than in some neighborhoods in my hometown
I'm from PA and philadelphia is really really shit. it's legitimately probably one of the most dangerous cities to visit in the USA because the crime doesn't just happen in "bad areas" (like Chicago) and it's not infrequent (like NYC), it's frequent and it's in "good" residential neighborhoods. Muggings, murders, rapes, shootings, all in nice areas. Philly is probably the one city I felt legitimately unsafe in, I feel pity for the tourists who someone end up in that place. It's genuinely grim, run down, dirty as frick, dangerous and yet still ridiculously expensive.
Same, Philly is the only place I feel unsafe at obviously tourist areas like where to liberty bell is. And I've been all around latin america.
Pittsburgh any different?
Yes, it's night and day different. Pittsburgh is safe, generally clean, affordable, and lots of nice neighborhoods/attractions. Philly and Pittsburgh are not remotely comparable, there's a giant culture difference between the two places as well. Western PA is unlike the rest of PA and culturally unlike anywhere else in the country except perhaps the Cleveland area.
I'm from PGH so I'm biased but the pros are:
- extraordinarily affordable for the northeast
- good public transportation, low traffic
- good cultural, sport and artistic attractions like opera, theater, symphonies, ballet, concerts, etc.
- good nightlife, lots of diverse dense neighborhoods with different cultures, bikeable/walkable
- close to DC, NYC and Chicago by plane or train
- thriving economy, low crime, lots of local universities and jobs
- rich history and heritage sites from back to 1600s
- excellent schools, good place to raise a family
- good outdoor options if you're into that
Cons
- not nearly as big as the "big" northeast cities, doesn't have the same immigrant draw as philly, nyc, boston, etc.
- women have a bit of an "uncultured" edge
- large drinking culture
- absolutely awful weather, brutally cold, wet, rainy, ice, snowy, slushy winters from november to may with no sun and constant grey skies, intense 90F heat with miserable 70% humidity during the summer. This tends to be intense culture shock for transplants
- "rust belt" infrastructure (lead pipes, heavy air pollution still, old housing, bad roads)
- basically zero immigrant communities, entire population is black and white people who have been here for 100 years
- lack of proximity to oceans or beaches
We don't get a lot of tourists or transplants here which is surprising because the quality of life is very high, IMO, much much higher than philly. Fine by me, seems the tech asians and indians are terrified of the cold and so they stay away in general.
Interesting. My mom began planning a trip there soon after I mentioned in an offhand comment that there were Croats there, supposedly. Thing is, my parents are real Croats, like FOBs who came here after the war, and my offhand comment was based off Wikipedia numbers, which probably include white people who have been here for 100 years as you mentioned. I can't imagine any places in America with actual sizable diaspora communities of our people, all those seem to exist in Europe. Regardless I grew up in a place where the local diaspora community consisted of like 4 families so I understand my parents jumping at that info.
Anyway, this trip also serves as a scouting trip for a place for my sister to live after she graduates, so it sounds like Pittsburgh is a great candidate in that regard. Any things you recommend doing on a weekend trip there? Me and my sis might hit up some nightlife to get a feel, any good spots I should know?
Yeah PGH has a sizeable Eastern Euro diaspora for the steel industry, we still have Ukrainian and Serbian and Hungarian and Polish food festivals here. In fact the national Croatian credit union in the USA is headquartered in Pittsburgh. There's Croat clubs and singing societies here so I'm sure you could find something.
A weekend trip? I'd say come in the Fall around October, not too hot or cold yet. Do the major tourist stuff, obviously take the inclines up Mt. Washington for the views. See if you can do an Oktoberfest brewery tour, there's a lot of good microbreweries here. Maybe go the National Aviary, or Phipps, see the Cathedral of Learning/Heinz Chapel, take a tour of the Nationality Rooms. Go to Point State Park, see the fountain, walk along the Riverwalk down the Allegheny. Go to the Carnegie Museum of Art, or the Andy Warhol.
For clubs? Cavo on Penn Ave in the Strip, Tequila Cowboy in the North Shore (there's quite a bit along Federal Street -> walk across the Roberto Clemente bridge to the Theatre District for more upscale stuff). The big club scene is along Carson (Jimmy D's, Diesel, Carson City). You can also walk along Butler through Upper/Lower Lawrenceville, lots of stuff there, some very good smaller bars on the sidestreets. Pittsburgh is more "dive bar/college bar" than club, it's not like Philly in that regard but you do have some options. There's a dive bar on every street corner practically. I recommend Gene's in South Oakland for the true slum student college experience.
Good lesser known restaurants I recommend are Ritter's on Baum Blvd. in the East End/Garfield, Huszar on the North Side, Big Jim's in Greenfield, Mineo's for pizza, Nadine's in Southside Slopes, Triangle Subs in Etna. Stop in La Poblanita in Coraopolis if you're driving in from airport, it's not that far of a detour and is exceptional Mexican, same as the best I had anywhere in Texas.
>extraordinarily affordable for the northeast
Ehh, I wouldn't really consider Pittsburgh "the Northeast". Culturally it feels very Midwestern and it's west of the Alleghenies
Philadelphia induces a fearlessness (or reverse Paris syndrome like
said) particularly in its native-born like moi, you'll go anywhere and to any "bad" part of any city because literally nothing in the rest of the U.S. and continental Europe can approach Kensington Avenue.
Im a bit weird I guess, I quite liked Philly and was pleasently surprised when I went in 2019 for a couple of days. Granted, I was born and raised in Chicago, so keep that in mind, because thats what I liked about Philly- it reminded me of a smaller version of Chicago from maybe 20 years ago. It seems like all the gentrification bypassed Philly for nearby NYC and the city still reminds me of how inner cities in this country used to be 20 to 30 years ago, kind of a relic of pre-Gentrification urban USA in modern times. You would walk through an old Italian neighborhood of row houses and you could tell you were still in a real, blue collar community where families have owned those homes for decades and look out for one another, like the old Rocky movies or again, like how cities like Chicago used to be 20 to 30 years ago. No stupid cup cake or flower shops or meme axe-throwing bars, just communities of people with their family owned diners, bars or bodegas. Had a nice charm to it. The city was also extremely walkable, had great home-made style food, good subway/public transit, lots of history, good nightlife, down to Earth people and a decent little thriving downtown core that was even busy at night. Is it first on my list of places to revisit? No. But I appreciated it while I was there for my few days. Ignore the haters, Philly is cool.
imagine lying about being from chicago then calling a corner store a bodega, have a nice day new yorker
Beijing was a total police state. It was nothing but propaganda, military
police, and shopping malls. Much worse than Shanghai, which I'd visited a few times over the years, and was kinda fun. I'll never go back.
I didn't know Beijing was in Australia
Half of it is.
When I was in university had a middle Eastern flatmate who just arrived and constantly complained about how many Asians there were in Sydney.
I miss Beijing. Wide ass streets with big ass buildings. At least you can walk around comfortably enjoying the view (although there's nothing to look at specifically). Guess I just love terrifyingly huge cities.
Beijing is one of the worst cities in China. It's comparatively cold, spread out, and much more of a police state.
There's lots of great cities in China (granted you like the kind of stuff that Chinese cities can give you). However, beijing is the kind of place that you're best off just visiting once for the main tourist attractions and never going back.
One thing it does have over other Chinese cities is that it's comparatively clean, but why the frick would you go to China if you want clean cities.
If you go to China for the tier 1 cities, just go somewhere that is the same thing but better like Taipei or Singapore.
who told you a asiatic commie shithole bug hive was going to be a grand old time?
Why does this stupid homosexual website always flip photos?
Because it strips EXIF metadata. If your orientation is there, it will be gone.
Here's a tip, flip your photo and open it in Paint. Edit one pixel, just draw it black where no one will see, and then save it as a new photo. Voila, it just werks now.
He's a phone-poster. Something as simple as opening it in MS Paint is beyond his ability.
It was literally Paris. I hate that shithole with every inch of my body. Before I came I didn't even have high expectations for it. I had practically no expectations and Paris still managed to disappoint me.
>my face my third day in Paris
Planned to be there for a week but ended my trip early. Went to Spain instead.
Paris fricking sucks man good on you for getting the hell out of there. UK sucks too. Spain and Portugal are pretty fun and the girls are mint. A hidden gem is Bulgaria in the right spots like Sofia and Varna. Great nightlife, but it can be dangerous there. The guys there do not like foreigners and they're pretty fricking hardcore.
For some reason I thought Saigon would be 500k-1M population city with rich history and quaint buildings, some interesting war stuff and a traditional vietnamese vibe.
Yeah I hated ho chi minh but loved hanoi which was strange.
saigon is my favorite city in the world but it's shit as a tourist. only good to live in. and it's 100% worse now than it was in 2010-2015 because traffic is way worse with cars
Saigon has all that stuff you listed and then some outside of District 1. You just have to not be a fatass though and learn to walk a lot and explore. Some of the most beautiful Mahayana Buddhist temples Ive ever seen. Only thing missing that holds the city back is currently no public transit like the MRT/BTS style railways to get around the city like in Bangkok, but this is being constructed though and will hopefully finish some time soon. Not only that, but if more people ride the rail when it opens it will also reduce the amount of motobike traffic which admittedly is absolutely insane at the moment. Saigon is a city that currently makes you work to appreciate it, whether finding new sights to explore or finding food to eat, its one of the few places on the planet that filters out all the instagram selfie generation of travelers and still has an "authentic", off the beaten path, old world charm to it outside of the District 1 containment zone. The new subway will be both a blessing and a curse when it opens for the reasons I listed above, so enjoy the city's ruggedness while you still can.
America's homeless situation actually blew me away.
I went to Anchorage and LA and it's actually fricking insane how bad it is.
You should check out East Hastings in Vancouver, Canada. It's literally worse than Skid Row in LA and like ten people OD and die there per night. Then check out the absolute duality of society because just across one intersection is an extremely rich business district.
Disingenuous to say that it's worst, East Hastings is a small containment zone that everyone knows to avoid while all of downtown LA and the LA Metro is I Am Legend. It disgusted me to see that LA just forfeited their metro to degenerates like that, while decent people need to use a car to keep their sanity
Just came back from Vancouver. This bum zone is right next to Gastown and Chinatown which I would guess are prime tourist destinations, and the bums overflow both into them and into the rest of the downtown. I thought Toronto had a homeless problem but Vanc is way worse.
Anchorage's homeless situation is fricked. A lot of them freeze to death in the winter and no one actually wants to solve it. Source: grew up in Anchorage.
The problem solves itself according to you.
>Freeze to death
Problem solved, wish SoCal had extreme weather.
For me it was Norway.
>snowing in May
>lack of infrastructure for tourists to experience muh nature
>absurdly expensive
>locals want nothing to do with you(or strangers in general)
>neo-socialist commie block housing everywhere
>$14 USD for a fricking beer
I don't doubt your account but I was in Oslo for a day or two and I found people almost creepily friendly. The people in the Starbucks made conversation and asked all about ourselves and then the one Barista told me he put an extra shot of espresso in the coffee "just for me" and then winked. Then when we were looking for an ATM to pay to fix our broken bike chain this random stranger in the street started walking around the neighbourhood trying to find my brother to try and tell him where the ATM was he'd gone looking for. Maybe just luck? We were dirty male cyclists.
Everyone is miserable there between september-april so they make up for it by being overly friendly during the months where they actually see the sun
they were hoping to have gay sex with you
Frick off poor gay
California, San Francisco was full of crazy screaming homeless and beggars, Los Angeles is mostly a shithole, Hollywood is depressing and mexican as frick; there's a "pare de sufrir" church in Hollywood Boulevard next to the walk of fame, that's literally a scammer church for desesperate idiots here in south america, couldn't believe that shit. Then there's some cool places in the woods like Muir Woods, Yellowstone and stuff but the cities are 3rd world tier.
Anyone know a place is shit, then get talked into it not being shit, only for you to go and realize you were right all along?
>know germans and germany is pretty fricking shit for a long time
>don't think I gave it a fair shot based on just a few personal experiences mainly from people and things in/around the capital
>talk and plan a trip late last year
>everyone telling me "oh no it's great blah blah blah you don't understand it's soooo good the food and beer!"
>get told it's fine and stuff is great in germany by a few people online I know
>go recently with a complete open mind
>people drive like absolute fricking morons
>german women are still insane next to near femcel levels of stupid
>anyone who is willing to speak english is often indian, paki, or some african
>beer is heavily meh unless all beer is keystone light, budlight, or some cheap shit from asia
>food is crap
>people are crap, never shutting up about BLUMPF
>trains are below shit on time
>roads are dogshit switching between smooth and rocky making it impossible to use the scooters
>speak with a few people from germany at hotel bar or some places ask them what's fun to do, all just say drink and eat kebab
>mfw I have no face
Glad I didn't invest more time there and went other places
Hmm, odd. I'm from England and love going there. Munich is class.
>beer is heavily meh unless all beer is keystone light, budlight, or some cheap shit from asia
Opinion discarded
This is my first night in Berlin, only here for a concert then I am fricking off the day after tomorrow. I semi enjoyed Oktoberfest in Munich a few years ago, I have seen other parts of Germany too. Berlin is filthy and smelly, like Bangkok. The hipster trash and women are Melbourne tier in the worst ways possible. And strangely I feel unsafe walking around, and I have never felt unsafe in any city I have ever visited.
Heh. Reminds me of the time some tourist asked me what there is to do in my city. I couldn't think of a single thing, at least for a tourist. I also hated every single other German city I ever visited.
>beer is heavily meh unless all beer is keystone light, budlight, or some cheap shit from asia
please be bait
If you can believe it I found Guadalajara and the surrounding areas bland and a sea of brown and grey concrete buildings with faded coca-cola signs out front. I mean like the whole city other than the soulless "hip" parts of town. The ladies are nice, but that was mostly because I'm white, blue eyes and have a job. I was doing muh ESL down there and was hoping it would be more soulful, but like I'm finding more and more there really are very few places in the world that are even worth their own piss. Maybe traveling has reached it's logical conclusion.
Nottingham.
Expected a nice little city full of beautiful historical buildings. All I got was run-down buildings and streets filled with gang of arabs and africans, staring holes into my neck when I went for a stroll late at night.
Basically it was the same as any other city in western Europe, could have just stayed in Sweden. At least the train ride there offered some neat sights.
>Nottingham
I dont think anyone ever made claims of greatness about Nottingham
It's important to check the demographics in a lot of western cities nowadays
>Nottingham
Did you do no research at all before going and rely on a vague memory of Robin Hood?
Why the frick would anyone go to Nottingham kek
brian clough pilgrimage
went to ireland for muh heritage no-one spoke irish got uncomfortable or annoyed when i shit talked british/english people and there were tons of non irish and they all loved it and sperged out if the foreigners destroying ireland were insulted because "those lads were more irish than I'll ever be" good ridance hope the EU wipes them all out despite the fact I'm 90% Irish it made me embrace being nothing but one hundred percent itish frick ireland never ever go to that shithole if your irish american or irish diaspora its nothing like the old country your family told you about
Can't tell if bait. Of course people from Ireland dont care about being Irish it's normal to them, it's not special or unique, they dont need to delineate themselves in a country of mutts like Americans do. They are irish, most other people around them are Irish. They are happy and have a booming tech and banking industry. They are doing better than most Brits.
Yep. Ireland has been poor for basically all of history. And it's just even more annoying for them because for a few centuries there, they lived right next to the richest country on earth but they were still poor. In a single generation, all that foreign tax haven money transformed their economy and they haven't had it so good for so long that they are looking their gift horse in the mouth.
god I hate irish-americans, pretty much all the white people in Australia are to some degree Irish, we don't say we're irish-australian and pretend we're irish. You're a yank and nothing more.
Its hilarious thinking about some autistic American who is way to into his potato famine family history showing up at some rural irish pub in the town his great great great grand parents immigrated from and he just starts trying to talk shit about British people to the few old farmers and tradesmen who are just trying to enjoy a beer. The whole time the barman is probably english and everyone just stars at him as the spaghetti falls out of his pocket.
He then gets back from his "heritage" trip and makes a seething post on an Alaskan moose hunting forum about how real people from Ireland arent real Irish and dont hate their neighbors enough.
> no one spoke Irish
do you speak irish? fluent speakers are only found in isolated pockets of the Gaeltacht and among certain upper class cliques in Dublin
thinking about doing a 5-6 day solo trip to ireland, how is it? maybe i'd rent a car and drive around
ireland is pretty small so you should be able to do a reasonable driving tour in that time. there are loads of touring routes you can follow, just google round ireland tour route or similar and you should get a few ideas
Dublin is a globohomosexual experiment in how fast you can implement full Kalergization. The rest of the island is comfy.
The IRA was all “muh counties” and then said nothing while the EU took over and turned Ireland into a majority black country with more Africans than the dark heart of the Congo. Pathetic.
>Goes to a large city
>wonders why the people are globohomo-loving homosexuals
How clueless do you need to be?
>90% irish
no sweetie, you're an American.
You grew up looking at stereotypes and are dissapointed
You're like a girl who was upset she wasn't a princess
You deserve it.
there are no americans
america is a melting pot of immigrants
More than likely bait, but still
Fire 20 yanks into an open field with me. I’d kill 10 before the other 10 do me away
There should be heritage trips for Irish to Boston so they learn how to be Irish
Berlin, but it was more like pic related than Paris syndrome.
>To fit into Seattle, you can not be different, you must fit in - it's like the old days w/ tribes and a village. Outsiders are weird. Outsiders always say where they came from is so "different" or better which is anti the language here.
>It sounds backwards, but the time I spent in Seattle really emboldened the above, you don't want to be estranged, you want to fit in with the culture and not be pariah.
This is precisely why I don't live there anymore
For those interesting in learning more, this is part-and-parcel with the Scandinavian "longhouse" mentality as explained in Bronze Age Pervert.
This sounds like a fricking nightmare. How have you not killed yourself yet?
Is there a term for increased self-loathing while travelling? Kinda like "well im a loser at home, and sure enough im still a loser here"
As for Paris syndrome, i havent had it because when ive never seen anything as bad as all the horror stories of napoli, paris etc set me up for. If anything I found Turin to be depressing dull and bleak with zero life or pedestrians.
Paris itself was fantastic really the only soul-crushing thing was how there's a fricking shopping mall in the Louvre complete with a crappy overpriced food court
Not related to the place itself, but last time I was in Madrid, I managed to go out to dinner with 3 girls and I had sex to one of them. Proudly enough, I said them goodbye without giving them my contact info. Shortly after I left the hostel I started to feel sad, like I didn't want that moment to end. It was one of the best days of my sexual life.
Paris. Stinky Black folk trying to push trinkets on me. Overcrowded with degenerates. No place to sit. Shitty service. It was the death of big cities for me. Same goes for istanbul but with a lot more scams and pickpocket. I saw gangs rob a tourist in the middle of a busy street and no one did anything, because the gang claimed the tourist took his wallet. Major cities need to get nuked.
Never really experienced it. I research the frick out of anywhere I go so, fortunately, have managed to avoid any unpleasant surprises (so far).
This place.
>Expensive to get into
>everything is nickel and dimed
>they run it to capacity, meaning lines can exceed 4 hours
>too crowded, it did not used to be this bad
>food has gone down in quality
>You need to plan your vacation fricking a month in advance, fastpass is now mandatory
>Genie app ruins everything, you can't really explore the park
>So many disney adults that creep out the kids.
It just is not worth it anymore
>So many disney adults that creep out the kids.
This was the worst when I went. Fricking adults queuing to get a picture with Peter Pan when there's children in line
Is there a reason why everything is crowded as frick nowadays?
>inb4 overtourism
Yes it made it worse but during the pandemic when most people cancelled their trips, so barely any tourist wherever I went; I went to Spain, everything was cheap and empty, but there were still fricking long queues in important museums. The queues were mostly made of locals, so what gives?
Is it done on purpose? Is it some sort of management that favors long lines, or what?
It's something I see it happening since 2015. Before 2015 it wasn't that bad.
I fricking hate theme parks with a passion. Orlando and Miami are a curse on my great state and every year I pray a cat5 hurricane wipes them off the map
What is your opinion on rollercoasters?
they're fun but not worth it.
aren't there a bunch of Black folk there too?
I’m surprised nobody’s mentioned Marseille, or have never been there. A disgusting rancid shithole, full of the worst sort of north and sub saharan African scum you ware ever likely to clap eyes on. The smell of the place is enough to deter you from exploring the place.
If you’ve never been, don’t go.
everyone knows Marseille is a shithole though
it's called "Paris Syndrome" because people go to Paris expecting something from like Moulin Rouge (the movie) but it's really just a bigger Marseilles
Agree, that was my impression as well. Only French city I've been to where even the city center isn't beautiful. And the "people" ... don't get me started. Algiers is probably nicer.
BUT you won't get Paris syndrome in Marseille, because Marseille is known to be the armpit of France.
>from waggawagga
>go to ulladulla
The bar was set low and you somehow still seemed to not exceed it
People saying there's nothing to do in Paris are just contrarians lmao. And yes, I've been to other parts of France and I think Paris is great.
Hawaii. Specifically Oahu and Honolulu.
>Infrastructure is garbage
>Taxed on everything
>Homeless junkies everywhere
>Half the population seems genuinely mentally moronic
>Everything is crowded
>Food isn't the good and is expensive
>moronic rules regarding alcohol (Bars can stay open until as late as 4am, but you can't buy anything in stores after midnight)
>Some of the worst drivers in the world
>Local government and police are 3rd world tier incompetent and corrupt
I have wasted 8 years of my life on this shit hole rock.
Hawaii is for sure up there on the list
>Food goes from okay to, this is okay but not for this price
>Bums everywhere
>American "police" acting more like they are out of some 1980's B cop movie
>sidewalks purposely taking you the most asshanded routes when you get to a coast
>no local is happy without being drunk or high or whatever
>stupid amount of homeless
>natives who moved there all have the same regret but aren't rich enough to leave
>it's another native sob story about 'muh culture'
>Half the population seems genuinely mentally moronic
explain?
I went to Disneyworld back in 2010 or 2011, RIGHT before they started fricking with fastpass. I'm glad I went when I did, holy frick.
Honolulu is a shithole bro, move to Kailua if you want to get away from the druggies and Islanders.
Jesus, is Honolulu really that bad?
In America we would call that great since it's only 2% black
Is it bad that's my primary reason for looking into moving there? Warm weather and one of the least diverse places in the country?
>San Fran
Agreed. Near as I could tell, everyone who lived there fell into one of two camps,
>Hilariously criminal, homeless, and mentally ill
>People from the Capitol in Hunger Games
>one of the least diverse places in the country
Wrong. Hawaii is diverse as all hell. It's the only state where whites are a minority. Despite what the media tells you, diverese doesn't mean black.
>Hawaii is diverse as all hell. It's the only state where whites are a minority.
Okay, but "diverse" usually just means "black" If it's mostly natives and east asians it doesn't sound so bad.
No. But then again I only stayed in Honolulu for 2 weeks so who know.
San Fran, now that's a shit hole.
Cuba post January 1st 2021. Once they got rid of the CUC, one of the dual currency for tourists that everyone used that was tied to USD price, it all went to shit.
Now all they have is their worthless cuban pesos and no one wants it since you can't buy exported things with it and can't convert it into other currencies. The infrastructure is still based on the old currency so the prices are all fricked and everyone is in a confused daze typing on 1970's calculators.
This means that you can pretty much only buy things with CAD, EURO or Pounds that you bring in with you, and the local are desperate to take it from you. God forbid you run out because then you can pretty much do nothing.
Is there a reverse Paris syndrome?
I travelled through Gary Indiana expecting it to be mad max:africa edition but it was just a pretty rundown nondescript town.
I even stopped off at a diner and had some decent food.
Really disappointed after hearing how awful the place was supposed to be
>Get warned by tour guides about Prague & Budapest for scams
>Everything was safe and pleasant and no gypsies to be seen (compared to Austria/Germany/France)
everywhere and everything and everyone.
its all just different arrangement of rocks and different flavors of morons. americans, europeans, south americans, indians, chinese, japanese, australians, russians, etc. fricking hate all of them. frick everyone
Pyongyang in a weird way.
You see all the stories, documentaries, videos, etc about WHOA DUDE SO CUHRAZZY, you cant take photos! Theyre super strict and angry and scary and secretive and ahhhhH!!!
Its obviously people blowing shit out of proportion. NK government had deals with travel agencies to set up tours. They take you famous sightseeing spots and then to dinner and back to your hotel and you leave.
>dude you cant take photos of stuff they check and delete ur photos!!
I took photos of literally whatever and not stealthily at all. No one gave a shit.
>dude they only take you to the best places and dont show you the bad parts!!! such a conspiracy!
Last time I checked any tour and any country is focused on seeing the best and famous bits. So shocking
>dude they like pay actors to be ahead of you and pretend to do stuff
There are multiple tours going to different places all at once and you can see people from afar. Theyre not actors or any bogus bullshit like that
>but like i saw in this video like they painted fake storefronts and stuff
no
>but but like these people who stole items, cursed the country, burned flags, insulted the leader, murdered people, etc got arrested
oh like any country
>ur a north korean spy/shill!!!! how dare you praise them and deny all the wacko shit people make up!
lol. its a shit country no doubt about it, i would never say its a good place to go for any reason. its just not the dramatic horror movie people try to create
They dont make tours for sightseeing for you to come in, be oppressed, feel scared, get arrested, insult you, etc. Theyre still sensible humans that want you to have a good time, its good for business and of course they would want you to say good things about the country.
Every fricking time i see some video or blog about "MY CRAZY AND HORRIFIC TRIP TO NK/ HOW I SNUCK IN AND SURVIVED" I roll my eyes out of head
You really like coming up with arguments in your head and winning every one of them, that's for sure.
you see, that kind of insult sounds nice on paper but its utterly meaningless. as someone who has visited north korea and seen and participated in a lot of discussions about it, these are based on common things people often say.
so your assertion that i made these up is baseless and factually wrong. and yes, i won the so called arguments. not really surprisingly since i have more information, facts, and first hand experience.
you didnt think that insult out though. you just saw someone else use it and thought it was a good retort, so you tried to use it yourself without thinking about the context or application. its like you saw someone blow on a trumpet and thought you could be a musician by blowing on your violin.
the most fundamental mismatching of basic information and logic. you are quite low on the intellectual ladder. but we all knew that the moment you decided to defend moronic and baseless clickbait, fear-mongering, hyperbole.
stay in school and maybe wait until you graduate before traveling. i dont think you are smart enough to guarantee your own safety
tl;dr
get a life fricktard
personally I think NK is based as frick and their whole way of life is pretty much a middle finger to globohomo. How was the food? I want to try it because I've had a lot of Korean food but not much of the Northern variety.
No one wants your fricking tour shill
Paris.
Delhi is the worst place I have ever been but I expected it to be bad so doesn't count.
Paris was everything /misc/ said and worse.
I've never been to Paris, but it seems the main complaint most people have about it is that black people exist in it and it's a bit smelly. Things which you can say about pretty much every other major western city.
I enjoyed Paris just fine
>but there are gypsies, Black folk, scam artists
ok yeah? like theres always been. imagine my shock when real life isnt like a perfect disney movie
paris is only disappointing to morons who have convinced themselves its some french shangri la
Paris isnt French at all my muktikuti fren. It's a shithole
Always has been.
t. frog.
the one Disney movie that *is* set in Paris the main girl and like half the cast *is* gypsies and thieves and other undesireabled
Well, there are enough rats in Paris, but I haven't seen one that gives world-class cooking instructions.
t. precisely the type of tard that's in the pic

What. The. Fricking frick.
Barcelona. Barcelona. BARCELONA.
Barcelona is the Spanish Paris.
- besides tourists, the local population seems to be a mixture of Africans, Gypsies, Latin Americans, Africans, Latin Americans, Africans and Africans. It's one of the least 'native' cities I ever visited
- I saw people doing hard drugs on the open street, for the first time in my life, in a side street in El Raval
- Many obviously illegal immigrants begging, scamming, with a very aggressive attitude towards tourists who are seen as cashcows
- most of the city is just Spanish commieblocks. Twenty meters from the beach - commieblocks. Historical architecture in Spain is great, but they've yet to figure to build anything other than commieblocks in the modern era
- I mentioned the beach: it's nothing special. Small, crowded and full of African scammer salesmen
- The nice parts of Barcelona are fine, yeah. In the bad parts ... you forget you're in Europe in the first place. It's run-down, smelly and full of nonwhites
I realize it boils down to a /misc/-tier REEEE IMMIGRANTS rant, but they really, really, REALLY ruined Barcelona for me, as the city got nothing but the absolute worse sort, and in shocking quantities.
>I realize it boils down to a /misc/-tier REEEE IMMIGRANTS
Do you redditards really feel the need to apologize because pol is right again? Like dude are you expecting downloads or the fbi to knick on your door for wrongthink?
I just don't find
>muh foreigners
enough of a justification to find cities shit, because it applies to almost any Western city over 100k by now. Barcelona's just been the case where /misc/ was right.
And they are all shit once the diversity reaches a threshold
>it applies to almost any Western city over 100k
And surprise, surprise, they're all shit and only getting worse. As someone who grew up in a large Western city and loved cities growing up (and still do), these days the only cities worth even visiting now are those in Asia like Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai, Bangkok, Singapore, Saigon, etc. And to a lesser extent, Eastern Europe. Western cities suck ass these days.
All western cities are shit, you fricking moron.
Found your issue: you should have stayed in Sagrada Familia district.
You have to go to Barcelona in the off-season. It's a totally different vibe in late September. The tourists are down 90 percent. The African scammers and gypsies are mostly gone.
>/pol/-tier REEEE IMMIGRANTS rant
why do you feel the need to cover your ass and disassociate yourself with view from /misc/. Are you the kind of guy who talks about getting sick from taking the vaccine then ends the post by saying you "still support the science and think everyone should get vaccinated"? My point is stop being a b***h and just say it. Immigrants frick up white countries, especially Black folk and other assorted mudskins.
>I saw people doing hard drugs on the open street, for the first time in my life
lol how sheltered are you bro, really...
I liked Barcelon had a great time there. I found this video to be pretty accurate and made me like Barcelona even more.
Yeah Barcelona is fricking dogshit
Country boys come to the city, see some Black folk and junkies, have a panic attack, go cry about it on SighSee. Lmaaaaooooooo I had Paris Syndrom NEVER because big cities are dirty and glamorous at the same time and i fricking love it. Go back to your Sound of Music snooze fest incest villages in the mountains.
I grew up in Miami, live in a town of 400 ppl in meth valley for the last 5 years. Now im living in Thailand
Everyone in America is an butthole, to many moronic criminal culture worshipping scumbags with nothing to lose.
>Everyone in America is an butthole, to many moronic criminal culture worshipping scumbags with nothing to lose.
Miami may have biased you, but glad you found home in Thailand
Cartagena, Colombia. first world prices in a third world shithole. no running hot water. Prostitutes want $50 USD to frick where you can get better looking ones for $15 in Bogota. cant even relax on the beach without 47 locals trying to sell you an hour of speaker time, sunglasses, shitty israeliteelry, etc. Hotel tried to ban me from bringing prostitutes back to my room. Hotel lost power twice for a couple hours.
homosexual taxi driver gave me fake money ass change. It's basically the Colombian version of South Beach and im from Fort Lauderdale and all locals including myself hate south beach.
How is Ft Lauderdale? I heard they banned spring breakers or some shit, which is based imo. I've always wanted to live in South Florida in a place like Port St Lucie but it seems like there's a trillion Black folk and hispanics down there.
>Guests who have out-of-state IDs will be restricted to those 23 or older, The Wharf Fort Lauderdale said in an Instagram post on Friday
Yea so basically the biggest most posh club in the city banned zoomies thanks to their severe moronation. And it's not just drunk guys fighting. The Wharf is where some chick literally dug in her pussy and squirted all on the dance floor and subsequently got kicked out, here's the video
https://imgur.io/BlQa965
Basically Fort Lauderdale is the Miami for upper middle class white people who don't feel like getting shot on South Beach. It's majority white while Miami is majority Hispanic, black and israeli. bawds in booty shorts and crop tops visit from all over the country. There will be at least 3 separate bachelorette party bawd groups as well as 3 separate "birthday girl" groups wearing sashes and veils and shit for attention, wandering around the clubs on weekends looking for alpha male dick. If you find a bawd visiting for the weekend, you can 100% frick her in her hotel room with zero need for a financial or time investment ie dinner or coffee date beforehand. There's a big dark alleyway that separates the nightclubs and you can just go behind a dumpster and frick a club rat there. Anytime some flyover homosexual shit talks florida, I let them know the women from their cold ass landlocked state come hire and give up their pussy, throat, & butthole for free
>Port St. Lucie
My childhood friend bought a house there with his wife and lives in the middle of nowhere raising his son. Unless you are a 40yo boomer with a family I'd advise against moving out there cause the only thing to do is go to buffets
So you give your wiener and cum to diseased bawds from flyover states for free and all you get is herpes and throat cancer. Kek FLoRida man is dumb dumb
>throat cancer
You just exposed yourself as a pussy eater. Goober
Eating pussy is based
I you want to much on the musty fishy mucus membrane lined hole where other men shove their dicks i wont stop you
>diseased bawds
Go away
Nice bro, you get to sample all that primo poon while their boyfriends and husbands back home have to listen to them b***h and pay for all their shit kek
South Florida is entirely priced out with the most brandonomics inflated real estate in the country. Naples is all old people and Fort Myers is souless suburbs with absolutely nothing going on.
I'd refrain from relocating lol
>South Florida is entirely priced out with the most brandonomics inflated real estate in the country
Yeah not gonna move now. I'll wait until the entire thing crashes and burns. Apparently it's already starting in Tampa.
I'd be happy to move to a place with no culture except for a bigass Walmart Tbh. I can travel if I want to experience cool shit, I want my home to be boring, nondescript, and safe as frick. Don't know if I'll find that in SoFla but Citrus county looks pretty white according to some maps.
>I'd be happy to move to a place with no culture except for a bigass Walmart
Brooksville is based (although a lot more redneck than it seems on google maps) or townhouses outside Gainesville. Living in a college town has its own separate subculture of perks and cons. UF is the school that all mid class mid intelligence kids go because their parents went or they wanted a more "namebrand" School that isn't the local Uni like USF, UCF, FGCU.
t. St. Petersburg /frickoffwe'refull/
went to las vegas on halloween, just to try and frick around and be somewhere interesting on halloween. i kinda got a cheap place way off the strip, i've been here plenty of times for work and partying. i don't gamble but i drink and take photos. I ended up not likeing the crowded places and concerts. i felt in danger. i wasted money on uber, got stuck in areas taking the bus. and didn't go to any real concerts even though i had guest list app. so thats kinda my fault. xg4nz2
Marseille. I expected it to be a nice port city with some horrible slums.
Turns out the horrible slums *are* the city.
Has anyone experienced reverse Paris syndrome? E.g. visiting a supposed shithole and finding it better than expected?
I had this happen with Paris. Admittedly I went during a very quiet period of the year, in December a week before Christmas (or so I thought), and my girlfriend, while an Italian, speaks very good French because of her degree. I really liked the city and would like to come back. The only time I felt like there were too many people was when I went up to Sacre-Coeur. I walked everywhere as well and my hotel was 40 mins from the city center on foot and I never felt threatened. Then again I am built like a shit brickhouse, so experience can vary.
brick shithouse* lmao !! good post my man
I didn't realize I said it in such an awkward way. I haven't slept much last night, so I feel like a moron now (most of the time).
that was a good funny though. stay natural
Honestly, Paris for me too. tbf I did learn conversational French in school so it was very easy to talk to locals. Most people seemed nice and even had some randoms show me and my friend around and invite us to parties.
Paris was fricking fantastic. Perfect mix of history and urban decay.
I have enjoyed reading the replies. Good stuff everyone. I remember going to Seattle as a kid about 25 years ago (old gay here) and having a sauced up vigrant ask my very white-collar family if we knew where he could score cocaine. Hilarious, but even then it seemed like a dirty city. Reading it has also gotten even worse (Probably still not as bad as Portland.)
For me though my answer is Tampa Bay. Know this is not a place you'd visit anyways but I was in Florida and had a day to kill. Felt completely safe, but this is the most soulless city by far I've ever seen. There is pretty much no downtown. They plopped every single touristy restaurant on a condensed street near the harbor and it looks generic and like complete shit and the "cool" neighborhoods that were listed consisted of one block with maybe one hipster looking place, surrounded by check cashing stores. Tampa Bay makes Orlando look like a mecca. (Non-Disney Orlando is actually extremely underrated, you just have to know where to go) Tampa's inky saving grace is the areas just outside the city like St. Petersburg (Go there immediately if in area, no need to see TB) and the old cigar town of Ybor City are kino as frick.
Reverse Paris-syndrome on Oaxaca, Mexico. Little city that I had no expectations for when we were visiting a college friend teaching English, but this super old and poor city had about the most soul of anywhere I've ever seen. Beautiful vibrant colored buildings, nearby Aztec ruins, the home of Mezcal with great tours of the process, unique skull designs which the entire world has tried to copy, and just very last and chill people who are friendly and seem to respect the Gringo. Loved it, nearby Puebla was also fantastic with some of the best old architecture I've ever seen.
Kosice, Slovakia which even you guys might not have heard of is extremely nice, but I've gotten long-winded enough here.
>What is the worst case of Paris syndrome you've seen or experienced while travelling?
Paris unironically
what a shithole
The last time I was in Paris the subway absolutely reeked of feces, the streets were lines with dogshit and there were gypsies trying to scam/hussle tourists everywhere. Also there were africans peddling shit everywhere which I assume has only gotten worse.
Toronto is a case of reverse Paris IMO
When I hear Canadians talk about it they talk about it like it's some third world country because of all the subhuman third worlders or whatever.
>Fly in, huge airport
>DIY customs in like 20 languages processing huge volumes of people pretty quickly
>Answer a couple questions and the guy just waves me through
>Rail link to the airport, not crowded
>Get out into a huge neoclassical station that has like 7 transportation network links
>Walk to subway without leaving the building
>Subway is new, high capacity heavy rail with the engine under the cars, comes every couple min
>Walk into the hotel lobby (still haven't gone outside yet)
>Check in
>Look out my hotel window, high rises everywhere, looks like Manhattan
>Go outside to walk around
>Temperature is comfortably warm (this is in September)
>There are new light rail trams cruising around on every other street, no busses downtown
>There are enormous open spaces by the waterfront/CN tower
>Besides the high rises it's medium density ground level retail with tons of small shops, they have their own local Toronto chains instead of major/national chains as far as I can tell
>Neighborhoods have their own vibe/character
>Dive bars, upscale bars, everything in between
>Friendly people who will help you with directions or finding stuff, distinct lack of American tier obesity
>Everyone looks different, very multicultural city but not really in a ghetto way. Hear Italian, French, Spanish, Chinese, etc.
>See some homeless people but they aren't approaching people or making a disturbance, just laying there sleeping
>They don't have any "wow" attractions other than the CN tower but it seems comfy enough
>Walk around at 1am, it's dead but also don't feel unsafe.
>Go visit someone, they drive me home on their downtown expressway. Has an absolutely beautiful skyline at night and looks incredible when going 100+km/h past all the lit up highrises.
t. Torontocel coping with living in his condo bugbox
Toronto's gay, boring, sterile and full of homosexuals. They chased the good looking hookers off the stroll and now the old track has more homosexual funnyboys on it than streetwalker eye candy.
Portland Oregon.
I have never seen more homeless drug addicts in my entire life, and I lived in San Francisco for a year. Downtown Portland looked like an outdoor drug market. Hundreds of addicts were just wandering around the waterfront looking for drugs. There were people wasted and passed out on every inch of grass. I couldn't believe how bad it was. This was in 2018 before the Antifa/BLM riots destroyed downtown. I can't imagine what it looks like now. We had homeless people camped out on the sidewalk in a suburban neighborhood in front of our Airbnb. It was the first time I have ever seen that in a US city.
With that said, the Oregon coastline is gorgeous in the summer. And the Columbia Rover Gorge had some of the best waterfalls Ive ever seen. But I will never visit Portland again in my life.
Average american city
lol when I was 19 I spontaneously bought a ticket to London to be my first time leaving the Americas and the first day was awful. The immigration officer thought I was an overstay risk so badgered me about my money and asked what my parents did and I said my father is dead, and she immediately let me go ahead.
Then at the train station, the casher handed me the little card chip reader that the US didn't have until 2018 and I'm like wtf do I do with this and she facepalmed right there.
Then I just autistically walked in circles around Victoria station because I didn't want to talk to any of the taxi drivers but I had no phone service and no idea how to get to my hotel. Then I paid like 30GBP to get the 10mi to my hotel and that was day 1. I ended up liking the city but yeah, rough first day truly travelling
Victoria couch station? Yeah that place looks rough. Definitely gives a bad initial impression. Going in by train is much nicer. Thankfully once you exit the station, there's lots of beautiful areas nearby.
I wish I had travelled your age, I only started at 21 and have always done it with my gf at the time. Being very young and doing moronic stuff on your own is unironically peak soul.
sounds like you are just a moron nothing really wrong with london
Athens
Kyoto. Seemed like my ideal Japanese city to visit on paper, in practice it was absurdly crowded with groups of school children and chinese "people".
Wonder if it would be more enjoyable now that they're walled off but of course I can't find out for that very reason.
I'm not gonna go with a tour group.
Yeah I've heard Kyoto is chock full of chinkies. Dunno why they specifically decide to visit Kyoto en masse at all times of the year, but they do.
So how bad are chinkies anyway? I haven't done much traveling so I haven't seen their hordes. The old stereotype used to be that they like to take pictures of everything and wear fanny packs. But I've heard that nowadays they're disgusting, push everyone out of their way, destroy things, spit everywhere, and are loud and obnoxious.
>But I've heard that nowadays they're disgusting, push everyone out of their way, destroy things, spit everywhere, and are loud and obnoxious.
Yup, that's an accurate way to sum them up. Also stuff about them throwing half-eaten food on the floors of restaurants and holding their kids up to piss/shit in trash cans. China has rat utopia-tier morality.
Damn, nasty. I kinda want to hate frick a few of these bug freaks, frick some civilization into them. I bet their pussies are tight as frick. Probably smell funny tho.
It's the "cultural capital" of Japan. IDK why they make that claim but they do.
It's nice, but even with only domestic tourism is still packed. The public transit is shit by jap standards, and the busses are stuffed beyond capacity and usually late. The temples are cool, but get boring after a few days. Worth visiting for a few days, but no more.
Kyoto to me is worth one day. I posted this in another thread, it was one of the least inspiring Japanese cities I visited. Pick 2 temples in Kyoto you want to see and spend the morning at one and the afternoon at another. Then go back to Osaka which is 10 times more interesting.
There's a ton more temples and palaces and shit in Kyoto but they're kind of all the same so pick the ones that you think are the most interesting to you and if you don't follow the religious aspect of it or care that much about Japan's history 800 years ago, Kyoto isn't actually that interesting.
I actually had the opposite effect of Paris syndrome.
>look into place I want to visit
>everyone on the internet says "it's shit"
>visit anyway
>it's not as shitty as other people are making it out to be
People typically only report on really good or really bad stuff
This is true. For example all review aggregators reflect this. There's clusters in 5(or 10) and 1 when rating, but there is an abyss between those numbers, especially in the 3(or 5), which would be 'average' and would fit most places/things/products. On booking.com I'd rate a lot of places 5/10 because they are mediocre, but in real life terms it actually means it is closer to 1/10 because how averages work. People have no idea how to rate places numerically, less so in words, so either something is the best thing evur while overlooking all kinds of negatives, or a complete shithole where only negatives are fixated on and none of the positive or interesting things are brought up at all.
Yep this. I only use reviews to see pictures, to have a small idea. Nothing more. Never read reviews.
