you could stay in johor bahru on the southern tip of malaysia and just cross the bridge to singapore each day. tons of people do this. of course it helps if you don't value your time.
I stayed at a comfy hotel in Geylang for about $75/night, it's kinda the ghetto red light district, but it's still Singapore, so nothing to worry about, and plenty of 24 hour shops and good places to eat at night.
This would be my bet, back when I lived in Singapore it made little to no difference where you stayed, since everywhere is safe and MRT will get you from point A to B in no time.
Also, OP, when you go be sure to spitefully look at orchard gardens for me, one my exes lived in those condo developments and it would mean a lot if a random from 4chins took my emotion with them.
kek, that won't be necessary.
From an ex-resident, here are some things to remember:
- use a card, singapore is pretty much cashless
- GO TO HAWKER CENTERS: cheap food which tastes good
- MRT closes at 1am, dont stay out too late without a solid means of getting back home (this means a taxi)
- Download grab when you get there, this is your aforementioned means of taking a taxi. its effectively just uber, but cheaper.
- buy a foreigner / tourist sim with a decent amount of data, literal lifesaver
- be aware it is very very humid, have water to drink
- get an mrt card, i forget what they are called but you can buy them at any mrt station
Good luck, dont be too much of a degen, police arrest foreigners who start fights and the like, with hefty fines and jail sentences.
cool, cheers. nah i'm not going to do anything silly i'm placid. might try my hand at pulling some singy chicks but idrc. just good old headphones-in strolling, picture-taking, and food-eating for me.
>- get an mrt card, i forget what they are called but you can buy them at any mrt station
They're now running a racket where they force you to buy the card to take the train from the airport to the city, but the card is real useful, especially for busses, so whatever
>- buy a foreigner / tourist sim with a decent amount of data, literal lifesaver
Don't just get the first one you see, the convenience store in the airport had the best deals on ones you setup yourself
>- use a card, singapore is pretty much cashless >- GO TO HAWKER CENTERS
do hawkers take cards now? they only did paylah and stuff when I lived there, and a tourist isn't gonna set that up

tree-in lodge was a really nice hostel that was affordable and ran by two good lads
Don't even bother. It's truly is the Dubai of Asia. A soul-less, capitalist hell hole devoid of any meaningful culture.
