Constantine was one of the greatest Roman emperors.

Also, if Constantinople should be returned to Italy, all former territories of the Roman Empire should be returned as well.

It is currently a part of Turkey, that is just history. New York was once New Amsterdam, and Saint Petersburg was once Leningrad.

istanbul is literally spurdo speak for "to the city" in greek, kek. always funny hearing that name

      Why'd they change it?

        Anonymous

To make Anatolia more Turkish, the Ottoman Empire changed Constantinople’s name to one that is more Turkish. Thus, they chose Istanbul.

Ironically, the Turkish name for the city is derived from the Greek phrase “eis tin Polin,” which means “into the city.”

I'm Greek. Greeks don't deserve it if we can't take it back physically. Anything else is a cope.

Everything blue was Greek 2500 years ago, but that was 2500 years ago. Its over. get over it.

    Stop copeing.

We Greeks should be thankful we still have the Greek mainland.

If you want to actually depict the full extent of Greek influence, that map should include later boundaries and territories, such as the former lands of the Seleucid and Ptolemaic empires, along with the other fractured states from Alexander’s vast domain.

Many parts of the world were once culturally Greek or directly controlled by a Greek power. Greek culture has permanently shaped Italy, the Balkans, Eurasia, the Middle East, and so forth.

        Anonymous

I deleted my post because I forgot to mention that the map was pre-Alexander.

Nevertheless, most of the ruling families from the Hellenistic Period were culturally and ethnically Greek. In fact, many Hellenized their territories. In Ptolemy, Egyptian and Greek languages were mixed, and the Seleucid Empire built a pagan altar in the Second Temple and imposed the Greek language upon israeli people.

Unfortunately, the Greeks lost the power struggle with Islam and were subjected by the Turks, who swiftly converted former Greek areas. It’s a darn shame.

I made a mistake. I should have clarified that my discussion was pertaining to Greek influence post-Alexander. As a historian, that mistake was extremely embarrassing, as I should be precise about my historical information. Nevertheless, I included my mistake to show that I will partake in a sincere discussion.

Go to the bottom of the page in the thread check delete post then check the box to the left of your post that you want to delete. You have to wait like 2-5 minutes after the post was made though.

This was pre-alexander conquests and is preferable because of the 2 different groups of monkeydonians claiming its monkeydonian land / modern leftists claiming alexanders stuff doesn't

But I agree though, post-Alexander Greek areas are a meme, they shouldn't be considered Greek, they were 99% non-Greeks that had Greek leadership controlling them, so they were never Greek

Constantinople was an important trade node between the East and West, and it held the passage between the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea.

If the Ottoman Empire desired to grow, it needed to capture the city.

If you originally stole the land and it is stolen back, it’s technically not stealing; it’s a reclamation.
