Only part of SD I've been to is Deadwood-Sturgis-Rapid City. Deadwood was fun. Could not believe how shitty Rapid City is. Fricking depressing

          >Could not believe how shitty Rapid City is
This. I ventured out there with my family to Black Hills during July of Covid after Jerome burned down half the major cities. My main purpose was to scope out Rapid City as a place to FIRE to with the family. I also visited Badlands, Custer State Park, etc..

My takeaway was id rather live amongst rabid blacks than live in Rapid City. Otherwise Western SD was aces.

I lived in sioux falls for a year, it's a nice city, great parks, i like that one with the waterfalls I forget the name.

        It's called Falls Park.

is sioux falls worth a visit? have a girl up there I've been meaning to go visit but also have a hard time convincing myself to go somewhere just for a girl. would like to know if it's a fun area to dick around in by myself for a few days

My wife grew up in Sioux Falls, and I consequently have to visit at least once a year. In the early days of our relationship, I enjoyed the change of scenery. But over time, I've grown to really dislike Sioux Falls. There are a number of reasons for this.

First, while the Downtown area has charm and character, and also has a very nice neoclassical Cathedral from the turn of the 20th century, it is really just a small town larping as a big city. And even then it only seems big when it is compared to everything else in sparsely populated SoDak. The dining scene is pretty abysmal (everything is chain and even the "nice" independent places are hardly better than an Olive Garden) and unless all you like to do is drink, there isn't much to do. Perplexingly, although it's seated amidst a ton of agriculture, there is very little good produce, beef, or other food. Goyslop is the local food of choice. You won't find good Italian, Mexican, French, or Continental Fare. (Weirdly, there is one decent hibachi place) There are a couple of "craft" breweries owned by a local wealthy(ish) family, and a surprisingly good french bakery (CH Patisserie) downtown, but beyond that, your "night out" is either in a pool hall or at a yuppie suburban bar masquerading as a craft wienertail lounge - with prices to match.

Outside Downtown, the city is a depressing maze of strip malls, subdivisions, and open flat land. The south side of town has some luxury subdivisions with zero personality. Their airport is also subject to a ridiculous number of nonsense, non-weather-related cancellations, as airlines simply don't care if they cancel flights to Sioux Falls. After all, who are they gonna piss off? A couple hundred people from a city of 190k?

Which brings me to another issue: Sioux Falls is liberal as frick. During Pride month, there are more rainbow flags in business windows and yards per capita than there are in gay neighborhoods in San Diego. Just like San Francisco's cancer slowly infected the rest of California, Minnesomalia's is now infecting the rest of the upper midwest. Sioux Falls is despised by everyone in the rest of SoDak, who regard it in much the same way that inland Californians regard the coastal liberal shitholes. For now, more people live in "West River" SoDak (Rapid City, Black Hills) than "East River" (Sioux Falls). But that is changing rapidly. Within 20 years, the state will go purple and become another shithole suburb of Minnesomalia.

As far as the people, although markedly white, Sioux Falls residents suffer from a noticeably higher rate of neurosis and substance abuse than other icebox northern states (Montana, Wyoming). I chalk this up to the fact that Sioux Falls is an abysmal hellhole of a spot to live.

My wife and I live in San Diego, where I was born and raised. She won't let us move back to SoDak even if I wanted to. And if we did, it sure as shit wouldn't be in Sioux Falls.

The state going purple is a dumb assertion considering even Sioux falls goes red in elections, major metro areas (relatively) going red in states is very rare.

Do agree somalis should be put in concentration camps though (through legal, peaceful means in accordance with all laws)

To call Sioux Falls a major metro area is a ridiculous assertion.

The general tenor of life in Sioux Falls is generally trending left. They are the king of monkey-sea, monkey-do. They desperately want to be a big city. And as they become a true city, it will slide left. Just like Austin and Houston are liberal cesspools in a red state. It will happen. It's nascent. But it will happen.

              Also, frick Somalis.

                >also dooms whole state somehow

Which one is it? You sound apocalyptic about Sioux falls, yeah it's a gay boring Midwest city, the whole state doesn't live there. There are probably about another 100 cities like it spread around except you would be better off there than the same city in Kansas.

Just got back to this thread, appreciate the responses. You guys make Sioux Falls sound like hell but it may still be worth the trip to hookup with this girl, see some cool parks and a cool church, then get the frick out. I'll at-least be able to cross SD off the list afterward

It's really simple. I won't live somewhere where the weather determines my level of freedom and choices on how I spend my time. Anywhere with brutal winters means being imprisoned in your home at least 30 days a year probably more.

      >I won't live somewhere where the weather determines my level of freedom and choices on how I spend my time.
Well unfortunately there’s only one place in America where both the summer and the winter are mild and comfortable. It’s called coastal California and no one can afford to live there.

    I do

    Pros:
    >Low crime (the crime that is done is by the few blacks
    >few blacks, Indians make up most of the diversity and they usually stick to their reservations
    >lowest per capita israeli population in the US
    >low cost of living

    Cons:
    >fricking cold, but ND is colder so could be worse!
    >very little to do for outdoors unless you like in the west, as in little public land or hiking/camping in the east

Honestly the lack of outdoors activities and cool mountains etc are really the only thing I dislike alot, otherwise it's a nice place that I can see raising a family in, undoubtedly a better choice vs various other Midwest shit holes, probably inferior to states farther west IF you can afford them, but Montana for example is really expensive outside of billings (basically expanded Dakota wasteland) from Californians for already moved there in the last 10 years.
