Why is air travel so miserable now?

    "Revenge traveling".
This current summer is the very worst moment to travel.
Most normies didn't travel in 2020 and 2021 because they scared of the memeflu or didn't want to bother checking what was possible, so right now was basically the first time in two years they felt "safe" enough to travel.
I suggest waiting at least until september. I am not going anywhere until september, then october, and november.

Honestly, 2020 and 2021 were god tier for traveling (and until February 2022 to some extent). From the moment you arrived at the airport, to security check, it only took 15 minutes max, check-in included.
Not only that, but everywhere was empty and hotels were cheap as frick, it was a dream come true.

I came back from Newark in April and security at this notoriously shit airport only took about 5 minutes. I want to travel again but I know that same security line will take hours and my flight home will be delayed multiple times.

        Anonymous

This. Flew out of Newark a few weeks ago and while it was a bit crowded, though not too bad, the airport handled it really way and I was through check-in and security within 10-15 minutes, pretty standard. Flight took off without a hitch too and made it on-time. No complaints at all.

          Anonymous

Yeah the airport troubles ended mid-June I think, after the media started complaining. With online check-ins the only lines I have to face are security, which is like 15 minutes tops. Pearson was breeze and that's saying something

Now farms are being seized, 'climate emergency' is already the new narrative.

None of it seemed to add up at the time. In hindsight I’m glad I did not get wrapped up in the hysteria. It was all lies, all of it. And still people like you think none of this was particularly abnormal. While I do agree with you that the whole tracing thing and vax cert thing make governments cream their pants, the only reason why they drop these is because they are not ready. Their tools are not efficient, and they are limited by human resources. Nobody enjoys scanning qr codes after a while, databases are not accurate and not well updated, too many glitches, and too many different certifications.
Even in Europe with the EU standard test form, only two countries provided me with one of these (France and Italy). In other countries they just gave you a test result with a qr code leading you to their website.

They are not ready because of their own technical limit. Do not overestimate them. And there's a thing called "money waste" but that's a different story.

While it is true if you’re a non-European for 2020 (in summer 2020 it was possible to travel in Europe as a European), there’s much less excuse for 2021, especially from september 2021 when Europe slowly reopened its borders to North America (and reciprocally).

You know a lot of scared people. I don't know anyone who ever was scared of covid. People just waited out what they had to wait out, and went gradually back to normal as places started opening up again and vaccine rollouts ensured we wouldn't have lockdowns again, at most just restrictions that would eventually be lifted.

        Why so crowded?
        >lack of employees
        >unusually super high demand

I went in and out of Munich this July. Had a flight to Vienna. The airport is huge but it wasn't crowded. Security did not take more than 10 minutes at Houston Intercontinental or Munich. Though I did have 2 additional checks through Munich on my way home. But when I got to Houston the border control point line was fricking huge. It took 20 minutes but initially looked like it would take 1-2 hours.

However, my flight from Houston to Laguardia was delayed by 2 hours because of an issue with one of the panel lights in the wienerpit. Luckily it was an early flight 10am, so we were able to secure another plane. Had it been a 4pm or a 6pm flight? Frick.

The COVID test required to re-enter the US kept me from going overseas through 2021 and most of 2022. But I bit the bullet in May and bought tickets for Germany in July. I got lucky when they rescinded the order in June. I bet a lot of people started booking flights and hotels after that. Just one little thing got in people's way.

every day of the week those costs? i look at flying back from europe to toronto - the one way toronto to europe is often literally half the price or less than flying the other way. i dont know your plan maybe it is hard dates so you cant fly weekdays, or fly back in shoulder season - naturally summer and Christmas suck for prices.
potential affordable airports on their day:
reykjavik, dublin, london, barcelona, lisbon, porto, venice.
but in other years ive had brussels, paris, rome, madrid

of course the route of travel matters, why save $300 going over the ocean to then spend it on connecting transport to get to the same end destination.

toronto to barcelona round trip leave in aug back in sept - 700USD aircanada.. now this doesnt help you but toronto tax is crazy and so is any canadian service so everything seems more expensive than an american trip, but this is a deal imo, it is not the average flight to europe in this timeframe

depending what region you are from, some specific cheap airlines serve it. apparently pennsylvania its cheapest to fly to cork. britbongs love going to orlando

Canada pleb here, every airport here is basically a zoo.

People didn't travel for 2 years because they cucked in with the paranoia and fear peddled by the local media and were basically scared of their own shadow.

Once they re-opened everything people started going on a spending rampage given how credit is easy to get even if you're broke. Lots of broke fricks going to europe/caribbean daily now lol so demand is high regardless of ticket prices.

People realized this might be just a window of freedom until they close everything up in the fall for covid or monkeypox, or both, so they're going to travel as much as they can until then.

One thing i noticed is if you fly with Air Canada/Air Transat you're pretty guaranteed to have issues with delayed/cancelled flights or luggage issues, but if you fly with a foreign airline like American Airlines, Lufthansa, etc, you're going to be fine.

The problems in Canada seem to be with canadian companies only, not foreign airlines.

People didn't travel for 2 years cause the federal government made it very hard to travel (cancelled flights, prison hotels, pcr tests, etc.).

      >People realized this might be just a window of freedom until they close everything up in the fall for covid or monkeypox, or both, so they're going to travel as much as they can until then.
They might close cause of covid. They won't close over monkeypox cause that's a homosexualman virus (98% of infected gay men) spread by skin-to-skin contact, mostly at bathhouse sex orgies. If wienersucking government shitstem homosexuals lock me down cause some homosexuals wanna engage in nasty behavior, I will start breaking stuff cause they can't lock me down if I'm already on lockdown.

Yes and no. I flew out Dec 2021 came back Jan 2022. Business Class lounge was utter trash. Food offerings were super limited compared to normal and they weren't doing boarding calls which is something I noticed in my layover lounge as well (the food and accommodations there were WAY better though). The gate itself was a whole different kind of mess though. The people working the gate had no clue where the flight was (it was sitting on the tarmac for some reason) and was followed up by them deboarding the plane in the order of where you were sitting so a flight for 8 ended up being boarded at 10, and of course every monkey in the World had to block the Business Class people who were called on first. That was the same case everywhere I flew out of for that trip. Customs was a whole different nightmare. It took TWO hours of waiting in line after deboarding FIRST and RUNNING across Terminal 3 at Pearson to get to Customs.

It's not going to get better here or anywhere, but my God is it fricking horrendous here. I've pretty much refused to fly at this point until this shit is sorted which may be a while.

Just flew in to and out of YUL in Montreal, got through security just fine and in practically no time but they weirdly didn't announce any gate changes (which were happening constantly) and they seemed to exclusively pick people with advanced speech impediments to deliver the other announcements. Lots of delays on Air Canada though to be sure, thankfully no outright cancellations for me.

It's all a fricking disaster. Your only hope is to buy business class and just try to avoid as many of the monkeys as possible. The whole process is a shitshow, not just the staff and air waitresses but also your fellow passengers fricking hate you. Keep you head down and just get to your gate then hit the closest bar. Don't talk to anyone and don't look at anyone.

They sacked all their staff during the pandemic and now cant re-hire them all again fast enough, so everybody has to wait. Thats why we need a recession to balance supply and demand of staff and flights
