I'm Singaporean, if you're finding work, you better have good credentials cause you'd be competing with local university grads (our top 3 universities are some of the best in the world). You'll also need an employer to get you a work pass. Also yes you can travel to Singapore via bus from Malaysia but be prepared for a jam because the checkpoint is very busy.

After I got my masters degree I came for a job opportunity that paid close to 6 times as much as my old dead end job. Currently finishing a 1 month trip in Kyushu, I was supposed to move April 2020 but borders shut. However during covid I got a job that pays ~3x what even the most generous employers offer over here and with current economy a transfer to the Tokyo office seems unlikely. However after this trip it really reignited the passion I had pre COVID. It's just really hard to leave so much money on the table, although the CoL is much cheaper than Seattle. Hats off to you and the other jpn folks here. I really don't want to go back to where I can't walk to the girlfriends without feeling anxious. Maybe I'll get lucky and score a transfer. I make roughly $180k a year, $160k base w/ a ~%20 end of year performance bonus. I was paying $800 a month in state income tax, I dodged that right off the bat by getting a SD drivers license. After health insurance (which has international coverage) I net about $10k a month after federal taxes and 401k contributions.
My intercontinental flight costs me about $1400 which I do only once every 3-6 months. AirBnB monthly is $600 for SEA and $900 for LATAM, I’m probably getting gouged but I like staying in nice places, sue me. Food is dirt cheap, I don’t buy groceries I just eat out every day for ~$20 a day and that includes a couple beers. With transport and other incidentals I’m looking at $1500 a month, tack on the cost of the intercontinental flight and amortize the cost over 3-6 months and it’s ~$2k a month, all in. I don’t drink too much and I don’t coom a whole lot, I’ll have an “off the rails” weekend where I’ll blow $300 on a hooker and a night of boozing but that’s usually at the very end when I’m about to go back to the states. So I’m banking $8k on average into my Robinhood account on top of my 401k contributions. It’s only when I come back to the states do my expenses skyrocket, I’m paying $4-5k a month when I live here and that’s in some B tier city like Denver or Austin.

In my 9 years in living in Asia (Taiwan, Singapore, China), I can guarantee, divorcee or not, that foreigners don't just all get with cute, young doctors like Sasha. I did a working holiday in Japan and loved it. I like the country side but also the city and it seems easier to access than Australia. The scenery is more aesthetic to me than typical Aussie stuff (I like photography). I feel disgusted by most western women (including western born Asians) since having that experience and coming back and feel like it's a good reason to move back, though there's down sides like the divorce situation in Japan and being able to basically legally kidnap kids and what not.
