Winter Travel from Europe?

Bros, I can't stand this cold and ice and darkness. I need to flee Europe to somewhere warm and SUNNY for a while. My company will let me work from wherever for up to 3 months. Where should I go? Preferably somewhere cheap.

Egypt? Seems too dangerous.
Dubai/U.A.E./Qatar? I dunno, expensive?
Turkey? Not warm enough in winter?
Mexico? Maybe. Cancun or something.
Thailand? Long flight, but maybe.

Greece is nice in the winter. Not the islands but elsewhere.

    Sicily.

    Southern Spain.

    Canary Islands.

It's not really warm in those places though. I'm leaning towards Mexico. Expensive flight but cheap once I'm there.

Was in Greece and Turkey recently and I wouldn’t really call it warm here. It’s been 55-65 and cloudy/rainy pretty much everyday. It’s warmer than the north for sure but not really that much of an improvement, it was a lot better a month or two ago when it was 75-85.

If you want purely sun, go to a nice resort in either Egypt or Southern Morocco. It’ll be dirt cheap, you’ll get the weather and if it’s a resort you won’t need to worry about safety concerns. They’re often run by big European or American hotel chains and it’s all self contained.

You can also go to the canaries which is roughly the same distance, a lot more boring and often the weather isn’t as good but it’s still fairly warm.

Sorry to tell you, but the best you’re going to get anywhere in Europe is mild autumn weather at best.

BTW, Dubai isn’t anywhere near as expensive as you’d think.

homie what? How do you calculate this danger factor? How is Egypt more dangerous than Mexico?

I was in Egypt like 1 month ago and I took my 1yo daughter with me and we're looking forward to go there again in 2 months or so.

If you're looking the closest and warmest place to go in winter it's Marsa Alam hands down. I dunno if it's the safest, but it's probably safer than most European cities.

I mean, the U.S. state department and most European agencies say don't go to Egypt due to the threat of terrorism.

        >I mean, the U.S. state department and most European agencies say don't go to Egypt due to the threat of terrorism.
Sure, but they also say don't go to Mexico. In last two years there was like 1 terrorist attack with 11 dead Egyptian soldiers. Every few years there's some huge terrorist attack with dozens of casualties (rarely tourists), but other than that Egypt has like 2 homicides per 100k each year (only slightly above european levels).

Homicides in Mexico are counted in tens of thousands each year (almost 30 per 100k - similar to some US cities) due to cartels and shit.

tldr: Egypt is 10 times safer than Atlanta, which is safer than Mexico, which is 2 times safer than Baltimore. US State Department can gtfo.

          >Baltimore
Well I grew up in Maryland so that's hardly surprising. On the other hand, "safer than Baltimore" isn't really my litmus test for whether or not a place is safe to travel to.

            >"safer than Baltimore" isn't really my litmus test for whether or not a place is safe to travel
Ok. So let's take my beautiful country of Poland - which is one of the safest countries in Europe. Poland has below 1 murder per 100k people per year - let's call this unit of measure "P" and the lowest P the place is safer.

            Japan (absolute top) is 0.3P

            France is 1.5P

            Egypt is 2.5P

            Mexico is 30P

            Baltimore is 60P - let's call this unit "B":

            Ukraine is 4B

            Mexico is 0.5B

            Egypt is 0.035B

You also have to consider that Mexico city has almost 10 million people. Baltimore city has about 500,000. In order for Mexico city to have a murder rate of 30 people per 100,000, 3 people have to get killed EVERY DAY. Whereas in Baltimore it's usually about 300 for the year. So you tell me which city is more dangerous, one with a single murder every day, or one with 3 murders per day.

One with higher chances of getting you killed of course. If you're 1 person out of 1 000 000 standing in front of wall and there are 1000 bullets coming into 1000 random people you're still much safer than if it's just 1 bullet, but you're 1 out of just 10 people.

        >U.S. state department and most European agencie
This is normie shit. If you follow their guidelines, you likely can only go to Canada or Belgium. Obviously use common sense, but I've been to *many* of the countries the state department wishes US citizens to not go, and it felt safer than most major US city downtowns. Take what they say with a grain of salt.

Cheap all inclusive resort trips with air fare included to Egypt. It's tempting. My wife wants to go....probably will go in January. If she gets raped to death it was what she wanted anyway.

The French government actually publishes a map of safe areas to travel. It's better than the US advice, with some political caveats like there's no reason Russia should be orange.

The map shows Egypt as safe, at least the parts any tourist is likely to go to. Just don't go to North Sinai or the western desert.

      Seems like legit advice. Thanks.

Morocco is pleasant in the winter and very cheap; I'd choose some southern beach town with lots of expats, like Taghazout or Tiznit.

      >Morocco
I know a guy who ended up in the ICU there from food poisoning. I dunno, I don't think I'll go there.

Yea you have to go REALLY far South, into Egypt at least, to get decent weather in winter.

    Egypt?
    >Maybe, avoid Cairo though. It's shit, with hyper aggressive salesmen. Other parts of Egypt are great though.
    Dubai/U.A.E./Qatar
    >Doesn't need to be expensive, if you're using dollars or euros. I was genuinely impressed with the range of accommodations i saw in dubai and doha, can't speak for abu dhabi though.
    Turkey
    >I'm a big fan of Istanbul, and less so, but still liked Ankara. I know there's a lot of people that don't like Istanbul here, but the internet was fantastic, people were kind, and the food was great.
    >Mexico
Most of mexico is pretty cheap and has decent internet. Cancun of course is a tourist hotspot, so you're going to pay significantly more than most places in Mexico. I enjoyed working remotely from Ixtapa, Mexico City, and Zapopan. Cancun, Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta seemed very touristy and (relatively) expensive.
    >Thailand
Bangkok was extremely cheap when i visited it like 7 months ago, and the locals seemed way more accommodating than pre-covid. Something happened there, not sure what. Phuket is of course very touristy, though still relatively cheap.

Yea frick it, going to Egypt. Big resort, looks nice. All inclusive, like one I went to in Cancun back in the day. Weather isn't SO warm in January but it's sure a lot better than -10C as it is here. If I die, remember me how I lived - full of hate.

I've spent the past 3 winter seasons (November to May) working remotely from the Canary Islands and it's clearly the best choice.

The fact that people are recommending Egypt or some other shit-tier options motivated me to write this and offer to answer any questions anyone might have.

    >warmer than options like Egypt
    >cheap
    >part of the EU
    >spanish culture, which includes good food and women (or at least in my opinion)
    >extremely diverse landscapes, you can drive 30 min from the beach and go hiking in the mountains
    >safe
    >people are friendly
    >cheap flights from almost anywhere in Europe
    >fast internet
    >no tax on cigarettes and alcohol
    >and plenty more upsides

The Canary islands get boring after a week. The beaches are shit, all rocky. To add to that, Egypt has some of the world's best scuba diving coral reefs

The cheapest and quickest option is definitely Canarias. I especially liked exploring Tenerife and La Gomera by car and bicycle respectively. Might go there myself this or next year.

Egypt isn't dangerous at all. Unless you're a woman in which case it's not safe unless you're traveling with a man. They openly harass lone women there.
The exception of course is if a woman is traveling to one of the coastal resort towns or with a tour group.
