Working in Singapore for 6 months

Hello SighSee, I've just recieved an offer from my current company to work 6 months in Singapore.

It seems like a very interesting place to be as far as culture and advacement, however I think it might be very expensive and hard to make friends.

Really any help is apreciated. I will be working as a full-stack developer there.

It won't be that expensive unless you are a boozehound. It will be almost impossible to make friends, but so what. Start a few profiles on Couchsurfing and alike sites, put yourself in the backpacker circuit as much as you can and you'll have western travellers to hang out with and do fun Singapore things with.

Actual Singaporeans are hit and miss, some are actually kinda fun. The rich Indian, Chinse and Gulf kids are truly, truly, truly awful.

For what its worth I love Singapore for a few days. Its fun to come there and go to my favorite local spots. Go to Zam Zam.

It’s true that it’s not easy to make friends with most locals. But overall it is very easy to make friends going to bars/clubs/other types of activities. Since the city is small you’ll keep bumping into the same people which naturally leads to conversation.

I’d say as long as they pay well definitely go for it OP. Despite what some autists on here have said in the past when this comes up SG tech salaries can be really high if you’re not a loser.

Well for what I work based on my research the salary would be more than enough to live comfortably, however the company will specify at a later date the exact amount.

A big question would be how is the work environment in SG. Are people strict, super punctual and very committed as I would stereotipically think?

In my current office we are very lax and we always deliver on time, by helping eachother and behind honest when we lag behind/slack off. Will my laid back attitude not really work with people over there? I can imagine being in a situation with team mates who won't help or a manager being on top of you all the time.

I would say stay where you are for the work life thing. It sounds chill and relaxed compared to East Asian work culture bullshit.

SG is South East Asia not East Asia, mutt. The work culture in actual East Asia (Japan/Korea) is a lot worse than SG. SG doesn’t have the same overwork culture at all.

That’s not to say working with Singaporeans is great (it’s not). They often can’t communicate well, can’t prioritize tasks, complain about stupid shit and care more about looking good in front of the boss than actually achieving tasks. There are many westerners in the work force though, especially in Finance and Tech (unlike in East Asia).

The overwork culture is worse because you are less productive. Singaporean work culture is being in office for 12 hours a day because everyone takes two hours off for lunch + countless stupid tea breaks. Sgrean gdp productivity per hours worked is incredibly low.

I know it is SEA but the people there especially in offices are Chinese blood so I said East Asia you moronic nitpicking c**t
I bet you felt so smart trying to correct a little thing like that.

Everything smells like bleach and the streetfood actually sucks. It has other benefits though.
