You guys love to travel, but what are you honestly looking for out there? What are you running from?

You guys love to travel, but what are you honestly looking for out there? What are you running from?
There's nothing out there and you can't fill the void and run from the pain with perpetual travel.

Things that fulfill my hobbies, likes, and such.
    >What are you running from?
Nothing I just like traveling, be it for work or pleasure.

I'm not looking for or running from anything. I have a strong safety net back home and have no real ties or commitments outside of work and the gym. My life is too comfortable and "fine", I want to challenge myself physically and emotionally with different cultures, experiences, and places. I seek stimulation and uncomfortable situations. It has exposed me to all sides of human nature, the good and the bad, which has made me more confident and expanded my worldview. Everything in your life becomes relative when you can compare it to your own and others' experiences around the world. You become grateful for a bed, pillow, and roof when you've seen others live in absolute squalor with their family of 5. Somehow, that family seemed more content than I've ever been in years.

      >i just like it

there's obviously gonna be a lot of cope in these answers but for me, it's nice to keep on the move. Father died when I was young and my mother and older brother abused me, but the solution is to get married and have a family but while there's nothing in my life tying me down, why not run for a bit?

    >what are you honestly looking for out there?
a new life somewhere where I can afford to live a middle class lifestyle and push myself out of my comfort zone
    >What are you running from?
Past mistakes, the country I live in which has an insane cost of living and I will am priced out of property owndership
    >There's nothing out there and you can't fill the void and run from the pain with perpetual travel
I don't agree at all with the first premise 'theres nothing out there' travel is the best thing I have ever done with my life. As for 'you can't fill the void and run with perpetual travel' I agree but I am hoping to settle down somewhere

    >You guys love to travel, but what are you honestly looking for out there?
I get pleasure from seeing, hearing, smelling, and tasting new things in new places. I’m looking for my favorite coffeeshop in the world, the most interesting street I have ever walked down, a person who gives me a point of view I have never come across before, and the best stray cat in the world, not necessarily in that order. And also new flavors of toothpaste and potato chips.
    >What are you running from?
    Whatever is chasing me.
    >There's nothing out there
But there’s so much of it, and so many different kinds!
    >and you can't fill the void and run from the pain with perpetual travel.
Couldn’t do that at home, either, if that were what I was after, which thankfully, it isn’t.

Nothing except loser women in the USA and accompanying propaganda.

        >what are you honestly looking for out there?

Probably cheap quiet places to stay in cold weather, decent food when I feel like spending $2/plate on dinner, and otherwise polite locals.

        >There's nothing out there and you can't fill the void and run from the pain with perpetual travel.

I can say I've seen and done more in the last year of traveling (let alone decade+, not including childhood travels) than most people do in their entire lives and that's not isolated to destinations visited. CIA privilege motherfricker.

I'm gonna be real with you, I really wanted to travel for a majority of my life and now in my late 20's I've lost the wanderlust for the first time in my life. Not in a bad way, just like it's dropped out of my care. What you're saying is true, when you travel nothing about you or your life really changes beyond the particular context. You can have a full happy life packed with meaningful experiences without traveling out of your state or country, and also the inverse is true as you say, traveling won't cure your depression or whatever.

This is probably why I lost the drive for it, because it's like...ok yeah traveling is NOVEL and fun and whatever but...it's same shit different place. Yeah there's cool differences and it's great seeing how people do life differently or how laws are different and societies are different but they still have people. The people still eat food, and read, and shit and sleep. That's what I mean, like I think now that I'm older I'm more aware of how arbitrary these distinctions are and how much I value stuff like my family and friends and community. Travel still has a place, but it's not like "oh god I have to travel RIGHT NOW"

Totally understand what you mean anon. When I was 21-24 I traveled all over the world. I couldn't get enough of it. I'm almost 27 now, and just going to a few east coast cities recently felt like more of a chore than a cool experience. I went to Morocco last year and it felt similar to that as well.

It was good to experience all that, but like you said, friends, family and community are the most important thing. It's also incredibly hard to be a part of a community in a culture you're not native to. I lived in Australia for a while and even there I felt very alien; it gets quite isolating. Better to have a solid home base with a culture you understand and can come back to.

i get bored doing the same thing, talking to the same people, eating the same food from the same restaurants everyday. ive been in nyc my entire life so it's not that bad, but it still gets boring.

there's a whole fricking world out there with different people, cultures, different types of food, museums, experiences. the list goes on. why would I want to spend my life bogged down by the same family and friends i can talk to whenever i want after im 40+. I appreciate the community, but as long as youre not an anti social moron you can start or find your own community when you travel too.

i just want to do all this shit before i get old and maybe have to raise a family. i cant imagine how terribly boring my "vacations" will be. it's way better when you're young

i just get bored with the daily routine of life. its nice to get out and find meaning in novelty. also experiencing different ways of life significally expands your horizon and puts your personall life into perspective. then there is culture, history, language, natural beauty to discover. Ideally I would split my time 50/50 travelling and being home with family working on building a life

    So many things

    Different smells
    Different food
Meeting people with unique perspectives and learning from them
Seeing immense natural and human beauty as well as ugly things which are sometimes equally as intriguing
Having memories that are not confined to the same placeless American activity space I exist in most of the time
Making lifelong adventurous friends while traveling
Solo travel really helps you develop a sense of self that is harder to do in ruts/routine at home
Facing challenges and growing from them

Many other things. Travel is so valuable if you do it right with the right mindset

Ever major trip ive taken has changed me (mostly for the better). I hope to meet some of you bros while traveling! Met 2 so far and it was a pleasure.

It was one point on a long list. What's it to you that someone else enjoys sex? Also what the frick does sex (a natural part of life) have to do with heroin? You are truley messed up. Try contributing to the thread instead of shitting on people sometime. I promise it's more fun.

lol the only way to "end the pain" is to die. that's it. no other fix, no miracle pills, no esoteric enlightenment shit, no nothing. if you want it to end, you gotta die. if not, keep going with the pain. the sooner you accept that you are doomed to suffer so long as you live, the better. now go have fun.

If you are in constant emotional pain there is a reason and treatment for that

    https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/borderline-personality-disorder/symptoms-causes/syc-20370237#:~:text=Borderline%20personality%20disorder%20is%20a,a%20pattern%20of%20unstable%20relationships.

I am content but bored at home. Travelling injects novelty and curiosity into my life, like a child. I don't believe in afterlife so I try to experience as much as I can.
