24 hour layover in Taipei. Anything worth seeing or doing here?

24 hour layover in Taipei.
Anything worth seeing or doing here? Also, do I need to learn basic Taiwanese or Mandarin beforehand? Anyone recommend a hotel or area to be in would also be great.

You will not learn enough Mandarin before hand to be useful nor do you need it for a 24hr trip. I guess you could just learn to say xiexie to be extra polite.

Climb elephant mountain and otherwise aimlessly stroll around Da'an district

If you have 24 hours do the main tourist sites except the palace museum (too far away). Maybe Taipei 101 as well but book it now to get a time maybe in the evening/dusk.
For shopping get some pineapple cakes (you can get them at the airport. Absolute sex. Also get some nougat sweets they're pretty nice.
For markets try either Shilin or Rahoe and absolutely go to A Chen Goose, a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant that isn't expensive but is one of the best meals I've ever had.
Taipei is the best place in Taiwan for English speakers, you'll get by easily. The troubles come in the further south you go.

don't bother booking taipei 101 in advance because you don't know the weather and you get a nicer evening view from elephant mountain when its clear anyway (although it's still a good idea to go up taipei 101 before you go to elephant mountain since they're close by)

I went up in the evening in the rain and even then it wasn't bad. You get a view of the city all lit up.

I was just showing how you don't want to go up Taipei 101 just to be in the clouds. It's the nicest looking of all these meme tall towers, may aswell get the view of it

Good point. It's the same reason I went up Montparnasse Tower when I went to Paris. Gives a good view of the Eiffel Tower (when it's not cloudy).

      >A Chen Goose
Seems like they have a couple of branches, are the standards all equally good? Which outlet did you go to?

just walk around, go to some temples, go to the CKS memorial, go up the taipei 101 building, go to a night market, that kind of stuff
that's enough to fill a day, you will be dead tired, don't sweat too much
everything you will need is written in english as well as chinese, it's easy to get around on the underground train as well, i went there countless times and never learned a word of chinese

If my fists ever connected with your face it would send your head all the way to Chicago from Thailand

Would be an honor and a blessing from God to see that smug look on your face drop to a look of pure fear as my fists started hurling towards your fricking cheekbones.

what is the point in trying to learn chinese for the sake of a 24 hour layover. taiwanese people are obsessed with speaking english anyway
                don't be a tryhard

I'm not mad, just giving you a proper education on how to communicate when someone superior is speaking to you. Keep your mouth closed, and eyes averted.

if you are staying overnight, stay in a hotel beside the Taipei Main Station. within a 5 minute walk there are dozens. it will make your trip back to the airport much more convenient.
depending on the day you should check out a meme night market. that way you can talk about it with mid white girls you meet around asia. don't go to bars around Red House area, you'll get roofied if you look like an out of towner.

As someone who speaks intermediate mandarin Chinese, taiwanese dialect is very hard off the bat. If you're not used to the sounds then it will be overwhelming.

Haven't been there since 2018, would love to go back soon
