Friendly reminder if you wanna do SEA book flight and hotels separately and use Agoda for hotel books. Never had a problem in Thailand or Manila.

This is probably because he didn't book properly or didn't check some additional paper work needed for completion. This is not uncommon abroad, especially in places that are a package deal

Hotels.com has fricked me on reservations before. Their customer service is shit, but so is booking.com's. I'll just confirm with the hotel from now on.
i got a booking dot com listing taken down with my complaint because the hotel had quit its partnership with oyo, but oyo continued to accept reservations for the hotel on booking dot com. the reserved rate was 688, the cash rate was 1200, I was offered 1000 and it was one of the shittiest rooms I've stayed in SEA

No reason to stay there. Little fun to be had (foreigner night life areas are probably forever fricked after covid), city girls are severely damaged, and traffic is horrible.
I judge water quality for myself. Manila tap water is safe to drink. But if you are used to drinking Aquafina tier mineralized water, then yes its rank chlorine flavor won't go down well.
Manila is more walkable than most other Philippine cities. It has more variety of restaurants and shops than the provincial cities. The densely crowded markets are worth a visit just to experience the human energy. But there are better people elsewhere in the country.

I've had some miserable experiences there in the past but things have changed to make it better. Like for example I'll never be scammed by a taxi driver again now that Grab exists. The last time I went there I booked my hotel on Agoda, paid with gcash, completely hassle free. I'm an expat living in the Philippines full time so reading this thread makes me think people just trying to visit won't understand how a lot of things work here in the smartphone age.
