Instead of going to north India (which is most common for people looking for yogis), I recommend staying at some monasteries in south east Asia. They are normally free to stay at, and are a great place for practice. I have stayed at a couple. The first one was in Myanmar, where a met an early 20’s bloke who had reached the peak of meditation. The second place I stayed at was Wat Pah Nanachat, the abbot there is a very advanced meditator and a devout Buddhist. Enlightenment is a very special thing, it will take your breath away

          okay two questions

if i'm not looking to practice, i just need a yogi, north India is the place? more specifically..?

second question, if i'm looking to practice, can I stay in these monasteries completely free for long periods? like up to a year?

I recommend putting in the work, and with that, a guru may reveal themselves.

Yes. these monasteries allow you to stay for long periods of time. A meditation visa will be necessary for this

Someone enlightened or close to it. I prefer not to use the word enlightened as it gets thrown around without knowledge of what it really entails

Do you have to abandon your bags and regular clothing when you stay at a monastery?

Real, REAL yogis don't like meeting most people. The masters of legend literally just ran away from anyone who came their way, one master was met by a lama who read to him his very own book and the whole time pretended not to be the author, and many try to appear like ordinary people or beggars. So if you're looking for a serious true yogi, like one with siddhis (mind reading) you're best bet is to become one yourself. I'm sure that they will reveal themselves to you (and you may even be energetically attracted to them) if you have sincere devotion and dispassion. Otherwise if you just want a magician, there's plenty of magicians all over the world.

I spent 3 months in an ashram with an enlightened master in Southern India. The guy is Sadhguru and he is legit, he is the thing that you are looking for. And thats coming from a guy who has spent 10 years pursuing spirituality.

what i'm looking for specifically is someone who can retrieve something from my mind. I need to recover something very important.

you think he might be able to have those kind of skills?

he is extremely capable, he will be able to extract it. However don't let it be something superficial or you will be dismissed, the guy is very mature about this kind of stuff. Go to the Isha yoga center and ask the brahmacharis(monks) about your situation and what can be done.

p.s. while you are there visit Dhyanalinga too

oh yeah I know Sadhguru from the Isha Yoga Center

I just don't know if I can stay there for a while and whether I'll get a chance to ask him in the Satsangs, since he's so immensly popular
