What the hell is this bullshit? every country has a different visa cost for 30 days and America's is the highest. Wtf is this? This is like double the average rent in that shithole

Eh, it would be nice to drop in during my travels to eastern India but not for that price. Nepal is ~$50 a month which is tolerable but still annoying

But they're a small mountain country who wants to only attract wealthy tourists. Bangladesh is just a landfill for people. What difference is a Western backpacker gonna make?

Report back to us from the Siliguri corridor. Always wondered what that place is like.

Many countries set reciprocal visa fees. The U.S. charges Bangladeshi nationals a relatively high fee to apply for a U.S. visa, so Bangladesh charges American nationals a relatively high fee to apply for a Bangladesh visa. That's how it typically works, irrespective of any economic power differential between the two countries.

TBQH you're a tard for not knowing this.

        How fricking poor are you?

I'm not asshurt, reciprocity is exactly how most visa fees are determined. But hey--at least I don't b***h about the financial strain imposed by $50 per month, lol.

100% motivated by butthurt. The American consulate in Bangladesh charges $160 to even look at your visa application and then rejects 90% of applicants for being too poor. So they try to be buttholes about it too

True. Bolivia is another country which reciprocates visa costs.

why do you want to go?

Bangladesh just might be the worst country on Earth. Some people like to test the limits of their adaptability.

The absolute majority of visa policies are motivated by butthurt, in fed speak it's called reciprocity, aka we charge you as much as you charge us.

It isn't the majority of countries. I can go almost anywhere in latin america, europe, the middle east or asia and its a nominal fee to get in. The exceptions really were the butthurt countries, Russia for sure, a ton of scammy African shitholes, I've heard Venezuela too and I think Argentina was but the must have stopped doing it so people visit and spend money.

The idea of needing a visa for a 3rd world shithole like Bangladesh is absurd in the first place. Nobody is going there to take locals jobs. Nobody is going there to spy on shit since they don't have anything worth looking at in the first place.

Clearly you don't have enough thirdie experience.
Any kind of bureaucratic hurdle is another opportunity for grift and corruption on all scales.

LOL Imagine getting a visa to come to America instead of just invading the border and getting a free hotel room.

Also fricking Nepal has barred all foreigners trekking without a permit/guide. What does this mean in practice? Is going outside of a city alone illegal?

If you arrive to Dhaka by air you can get a visa on arrival for $50. There is, of course, a theoretical risk of it not being granted for one reason or another but I had no issues.
