Lmao anyone in Austin would tell you Lockhart is better. OP is right about Kansas City having better BBQ than all of Texas combined though

I had a really interesting barbecue in Kentucky called Warren County Barbecue. Several places around Warren County specialize in it. They smoke the meat, cut it into steak-sized portions and grill it. Then it's lathered with a spicy buttery oil. Unique and very tasty

Gotta say as a meat connoisseur Chicago impressed me with its BBQ. The city has a long history as a meatpacking centre for the whole US so it makes sense. But then again I haven't been to Memphis, Nashville, or the Carolinas yet

Half of those aren't even bbq I think you have bbq and grilling confused. Grilling is when you use direct heat to cook meat relatively quickly, bbq is using smoke and indirect heat to slow cook.

Monterrey and northeast Mexico in general have the best quality beef. Sonora and Chihuahua also have kickass beef tacos. Beef is always the best in ranch country. The cow should still be taking its last breath when it is served.

Not OP but where is BBQ that's good and authentic but states that are foreigner friendly? Most people going on holiday don't want to be shot at simply for having an accent. I'm visiting florida with my mate next weekend and looking for places there, additionally if anyone knows some good authentic BBQ in NYC or LA I'd also be down.

Everyone knows that Texas is a huge no go zone for Europeans, like even a child would know not to take holiday in Texas unless you plan to be shot

Kansas City has the most variety probably, and Memphis is good. OKC I don't think belongs in that discussion. I'd recommend something from the Carolinas for a third place. Peppery/vinegar from eastern NC, maybe mustard based in interior of SC. Different enough from the others.

    Europoor here
I had BBQ in Austin at Terry Black's after a local recommended it to me.

To be honest I was disappointed, while the meat was ok it had absolutely no seasoning at all and tasted bland af.

If that's all you got then I know many Turkish restaurants in Germany that will blow out any BBQ in USA out of the water.

      Anonymous

Terry Black's is the place you recommend to tourists because it has no lines and they serve brisket later in the day. It's OK, but nothing great. Beef ribs are good though. I'd have waited in line for Franklins, especially if I was coming from Europe.

Still, BBQ shouldn't be bland or unseasoned. BBQ meat is HEAVILY seasoned with a spice rub and smoked, which imparts a lot of flavor.

Terry blacks is for tourists. The wait isn't long and it's centrally located. You'd be laughed by locals for saying it's anything more than acceptable
