>all the cheese is worse than Kraft Singles
Don't they both come from cows though? What gives?
>best steak in the world at every restaurant

Lactose intolerance
they do put cheese on a fuckton of shit tho, in lots of fried food and there's lots of pizza around, it's just often really shitty cheese
The concept of pulling on an animals tit for the liquid that came out was a disgusting and foreign concept until the 19th century. They still don't really get it.
>>best steak in the world at every restaurant
Wait what?
I've mostly seen them serve their beef like sashimi and you were supposed to be amazed by those shitty 20g slices of beef. Japan is the worst country for beef i've ever been in.
There's A5 wagyu yakiniku on literally every street
>Japan is the worst country for beef i've ever been in
Kobe beef is generally considered the best in the world so you're objectively wrong
>Kobe beef is generally considered the best in the world
By whom? By some american fat fucks who can only compare to their cancerous GMO beef
>so you're objectively wrong
You're objectively full of shit
you've never had a5 wagyu
Don't be disingenuous now. Marbling is always welcome, but I am paying for meat, not for fat. There IS a too much.
so is wagyu healthy for you? or is it basically like drinking butter
It's rich and tasty but its all fatty fucking bullshit. Cows weren't meant to be as obese as your average american with the marbling of a fucking brick of butter. Give me a lean high quality cut over this pretentious moronmeat any day.
>muh A5 wagyu
How the fuck is that the "best"? It's literally half fat. Might as well munch on a bar of butter at that point
Wagyu fags are so fucking weird
Wagyu is a meme, and this is coming from someone who has had it multiple times from "actual restaurants" while in Japan. A good grass-fed steak from a local butcher in NA and Europe is genuinely leagues above wagyu.
listen kid you don't know shit if you're saying "grass fed" steak is the best thing out there lmao. Prime cut american steak isn't grassfed, the best stuff in America is grain finished or whatever. Grassfed American steaks are good, prime cut American steaks are great but A5 wagyu is insanely good, so tender u can pull it apart with chopsticks
>Grassfed American steaks are good, prime cut American steaks are great but A5 wagyu is insanely good, so tender u can pull it apart with chopsticks
You know these places exist all over the south and middle of the country right? You know steak places other than Texas Roadhouse and Applebees make steak right? You know just being "can pull it apart with chopsticks" doesn't mean all that much.
Yes wagyu has unique characteristics, yes it's good, but there are tons of places selling very high quality steak. Besides Kobe Wagyu is specifically a breed of cow that was crossbred with western cows to make it more fatty, Hida Wagyu is more pureblood japanese beef.
Holy shit. Either good bait or actually fucking stupid. Go to Kansas City by the stockyards that have been open for fucking ever and will make you whatever with a wide verity of steak.
I've had choice cut American steak and I've had A5 wagyu, really good American Steak is great, but it's no where near as decedent as like average ass Yakiniku places
Oh okay you just have actual shit tastes. Lemme guess you need it medium because "parasites", do you also use A1 sauce on that with the big boy meal?
check it
that was some random yakiniku place, now here's some $50 a pound choice cut steak I had in America, A5 btfo's
ngl the bottom looks undeniably better, thanks for proving said point...
I ate em bro the top one was so incredibly succulent. The bottom one was amazing too, but A5 shit melts in your mouth
>IT MELTS IN YOUR MOUTH!
Yes it does, congrats I know some BBQ places in Texas that will cook shit so tinder it also melts in your mouth. Do you want a sticker or something for repeating the line of nearly everyone ever? Lamb check will also do that, wagyu is fine but like hell it's not usually overhyped to hell and back for what it is.
you can pull apart butter with chopsticks, yeah. of course it's "tender", it's 50% fat
kys honestly
if you didn't realize, i was saying it's easy to claim something is tender if it's nothing but fucking fat. looks like i didn't make it clear enough and
got confused but i also think wagyu is a fucking meme
also go kiss men somewhere else you disgusting d*nish homosexual
Subjective. You’re a fucking weeb
The beef that they serve raw is meant to be cooked to your liking. If you’re eating that beef raw, you’re just retarded.
Pro-tip: the best sashimi is made of horse
>best steak in the world at every restaurant
if you like steaks that are 95% fat. it literally feels like eating seared butter. fuck Japanese food, it's such a meme
they have a wide selection of cuts with varying degrees of fattiness and if you think fatty steaks are bad well you've probably never had one
Good cheese is hard to come by, but there are some world class cheese makers from Okinawa to Hokkaido, just out of the way on most tourists to do list is all. "The Cheese Guy" in Okinawa is a legend and his little cheese hut on the south side of the main island is amazing, one of the nicest brita I ever met
heading there in a couple of months, will definitely have to track him down!
His stuff is OK, but way fucking overpriced considering that it’s domestically made and not subject to the ass-rape tariffs that make imported cheese so expensive here.
>kobe wagyu
>not hida
rookie mistake
>go to japan at least 3-4 times a year
>get a5 wagyu from time to time
>it's okay
Had Brisket A5 last time I was there(pic rel), was good would return since the shop owner was mystified I liked his place then kept trying to bring up some news article about me.
Honestly nothing beats the shit you can get in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Montana, or Alaska in terms of flavor, cut, and value. Like it's good the first time and I like visiting my friends michelan star place in takayama, but holy shit is it often not worth the hype.
>b-but you just didn't have the real deal
I've had probably each regions cut, breed, and what not of waygu ranging from some of the best of my life for a 3500 yen A5 cut to some of the best dishing out $300 for the grand prix deals at places. It's something to have for sure but holy fuck would I laugh if you called it "the best meat on the planet" hell even the meat dishes in Norway are something I'd jump on before actively looking forward to wagyu, just lemme go to ikinari steak or something.
Oh fuck the weebs aren't going to like this post
It's the truth, don't get me wrong I like going out for a nice steak dinner here and there, but I also like doing that at home. Paying 7500 yen for 300g of meat just gets meh to me at the very least. Yeah I recommend trying it, if in Takayama go to Butchers it's very very good and the staff is weeb friendly. Try wagyu for yourself but if you're spending over 50 dollars for a plate I question what you are getting for.
Just don't think it's going to be like :O !!! yt recation face for clicks. Eat it slow, if they have a beer menu ask for the pairing they recommend, don't go in on an empty stomach IMO because you'll eat it faster than you should.
If you are up in Hokkaido I would try horse wagyu if you can still find it, haven't been able post pandemic to locate it as the place I got Horse, Whale, Bear, Deer, and what not closed. Loved that place they had all the animals and all the cuts of them.
I am from Canada and at one point my parents grill AAA steaks from Costco for my entire childhood.
My siblings and I did some comparison between Wagyu and Australian beef from an all you can eat BBQ shop in japan.we all prefer the Australian beef over the Wagyu since the Australian beef has more beef taste. The Wagyu has much more fat marble and melts in your mouth, but with less meat fiber the meat taste is just not enough.
Yeah but... it melts in your mouth, your paying for a foodgasm that you can't experience anywhere else in the world from any other beef in the world. Everything else fails to live up to that standard, when I go eat A5 Wagyu I'm not just doing it because the texture and taste, I'm doing so that I can tell others how much they are missing.
And I eat good food because they taste good. I don't care what other people think of me.
Pic- Noto beef don from Kanazawa.
That Miso looks really nice.
Nah lmao, it's not close
I've had extremely expensive steak in both countries japanese steak BTFOs American.
>brisket
I mean, it's not rib.
The brisket was from a Swedish man who owned the BBQ place that lived in texas and couldn't find any BBQ in Japan so he made his place that. Cool dude though I thought it was criminal to serve steak of any kind with ketchup.
I've lived in Japan for the last 5 years and I agree with everything here.
retarded sighsee-tier bait threads like this make me miss old-trv before covid brought in reddit and newfags
japan does have rly nice beef tho
Don't ever eat a Japanese mince pie. Worst mistake of my life!
To those that have actually been, where's a good steak place you can personally recommend?
pretty much heading from Okinawa > Kumamoto then to Tokyo over the span of a month, so plenty of time to get off the beaten path if needed
Steak Salon in Sasebo was pretty rad. It only has seating for 14 people and its ran by an old man and his wife. dude makes all the food right there in front of you and if you catch a late night reservation he'll even do shots of sake with you.
Well this thread blew up, so other than so good melts in your mouth or cut it with chopsticks can someone tell me exactly why wagyu is so good? I understand marbling, I understand fat, I understand it's good but like why is it so much better than any steak out there. What am I missing, I've had it and it just seems to be good but I don't know if I'd spend that much on it again.
Am I missing something or is it one of those conversations that someone constantly moves the goal posts on? Like when I went to Los Angeles and had In n Out but wasn't impressed, it's good but I don't get the circlejerk of it.With the constant "oh you didn't have it so and so" Mutts or weebs have weird priorities when it comes to food.
In all honesty, the best food in Japan that the rest of the world gets mogged at is kebab. I don't know what it is but I am dumbfounded by how good that stuff is.
just shut the fuck up retards
literally everywhere, there are big signs that say Kobe Beef on tons of restaurants
Gonna be in kobe, any recommendations for good steak place there or is "kobe beef" a gaijin trap
Wagyu is overrated, it's very tender and the marbling is world class, but the beef flavor is seriously lacking. Best tasting beef is actually from older milk cows like jerseys and Holsteins.
All the wise gentlemen in this thread who know a good Texas (or elsewhere in the Tornado Alley) steak movs wagyu in not just value but overall eating experience I salute you. Lot of coping pseudo richfags in this thread compensating for lack of actual taste with high priced items and generic buzzwords like “marbling” and “mouthgasm”
wow nobody else said that you fucking retard
I have a feeling literally everyone saying wagyu le bad has never had A5 wagyu, A5 tastes better retard, the texture is better, it's not "too fatty" it's not "better texture worse flavor" it's all around better
You should really KYS
No one is really saying Wagyu is bad, just that it's pretty overpriced and overhyped for what you get. There are good places you can often get cheap A5 but even then those are few and far between often with some catch.
What people are saying is that for quality, cut size, and overall price you can get a far better steak in other places
The best I've had were rein and roe deer steaks, so beef isn't my favorite. For beef I would would vote for New Zealand. I don't think the meat itself is too different from US beef, however their sides are incomparably better.
NZ is pretty decent, as are some of the better aussie steaks.. but damn dude, gotta do yourself a favor and head to Vanuatu at some point. Simply amazing beef
I thought you were kidding me at first, but now I'm reading up on it, and damn... I wanted to go to the Solomon Islands actually for a different reason, but I should probably just go to Vanuatu instead. Thanks. (Any more Vanuatu or Solomon Islands tip welcome.)
yeah it seems a bit 'out there' but when you think about it, it's really not
Volcanic soil and clean air (for the most part) = good grass
good grass + low-stress, 'free roaming' cattle = good beef
Obviously theres a bunch of other factors in there, but overall you get the idea.
spend a few days on Tanna if you can, do the volcano tour to Mt Yasur, do the inland river tour and generally relax. it was still a rustic island when i went (power goes off at 10pm) but it really was a nice place to go
Efate is the main island and the major cruise destination. Avoid cruise days in town if you can, everything doubles or triples in price. Depending on the cruise line in town, the eye candy is delivered to your resort (pick a childfree resort for your sanity)
Espiritu santo is the dive destination. get certified beforehand if you can. had friends go there and absolutely love it
Ambrym is a place I'd like to go next. hike up the volcano, see the lava pit, etc
Noted, thanks.
I live in Japan and cook at home a lot with beef.
My opinion is that its a bit expensive.
Certain cuts are very delicious and very fatty, like butter but not quite - way better - but you cant eat much or you'll feel really full of oil in the stomach. best enjoyed with a smaller stake. only a really fat fucing idiot would sit down to a 200g slice of the real fatty stuff.
The leaner cuts which are still fatty by global standards are ideal. you can have a good sized one and its perfect.
Really fatty stuff geat for yakiniku with lots of other cuts too.
Kobe beef is high tier but its basically a foreigner meme. It's not that popular here for Japanese. that would be kagoshima, which is actually the best that you can get. the Kobe meme is just to get money out of foreigners abroad for a less good product with smart advertising by those farmers - and it keeps the price of Kagoshima and similar not sky high for locals.
If you go to an actual 5 star steak restaurant in the west you'll not see Kobe beef it will be Kagoshima if its not a meme steakhouse.
One thing i think Japanese ruin heir beef with is shabu shabu or nabe. they take really nice fatty beef and just end up boiling it, scooping out all the fat from the surface and you get left with what would have been an amazing piece of meat if fried or cook some other way end up bland and stripped of flavour...
>One thing i think Japanese ruin heir beef with is shabu shabu or nabe. they take really nice fatty beef and just end up boiling it,
Yeah this annoys me, nothing like going out with some friends for some meat only to see someone basically make it well done slop.
Cheese doesn’t pair well enough with the sake
>Steak: :I
>Steak, Japan: :O
Lactose intolerance leading to low willingness to try a ton of cheese and cheese is an artform with long standing traditions on how to create specific profiles.
Trying to get good cheese in Asia is like trying to find good sushi in Europe, near impossible. There is no culture around it, no incentive to even build it, because people don't come for that.
