Cape town

I want to go to cape town for about 8-10 days in january.
My plan is to get a place via booking.com, with a parking place.
I want to rent a car at the airport and have for the whole stay.
Besides the city itself I want to drive a bit on the coast and to the wine areas, paarl, stellenbosch.
Is this ok to do? Anything I should be careful about? Any advice?

I like cape town but I don't think I would've had that good of a time alone instead of with a couple friends getting drunk and exploring/hiking.

I really enjoyed Cape Town. I go often for work, but finally took my wife and checked out a few sites. Outside the usual stuff, here are some recommendations.
    >Sea Point, Camps Bay, Kommetjie are safer beach areas to stay in and walk around.
    >When I travel to Cape Town, I stay at The Cellars-Hohenort Hotel, it's 5-star and worth staying one or two nights.
    >Go to Stellenbosch for one stay outside the city on an estate, the city can be a little sketch. And go to Franschoek.
    >Spend two days in Hermanus and stay at The Marine.
    >Spend a day/night going to vineyards and restaurants in bot River, super cute area and I preferred the wine there over Stellenbosch.
    >I rent my cars through Bluu and had a good experience, always get the Fortuner.

Let me know if you have any specific questions. I go twice a year, between Cape Town and Joburg. Live in the US.
    >Eat at roadside Padstal's, get a garage pie, and drink the homemade ginger ale.

Thanks a bunch, I will get back with some specific questions

      >Cape Town
      >In January
I hope you mean the latter half of January, because Cape Town and the Cape gets PACKED over the festive summer season
Also driving a car in central Cape Town is a pain in the ass. You're better off staying at a place close to an exiting highway, park the car and just either walk around Cape Town or take an Uber.

I need the car for the coast trips and the winelands not really for the city itself. But I will rent a car for the whole time nonetheless.
And yes it's after Jan 20

Honestly, is there a risk for carjackings?
Can I inadvertently go into a bad area or are they in the outskirts?
I want to see if I shouldn't get a car, maybe taxi is better for me.
Also, I want to rent a car from one of the big corporations, like Avis, Entrprise, do you know if there is a problem with this (seeing how you use the SA company Bluu).
Hotel wise, seems very expensive for my budget haha, I can't pay 350/night, but I will find a nice place in a safe area

Always wanted to visit South Africa Cape with my wife but don't want us to get carjacked and raped by n*gger road bandits. We need a no-go-zone map for this thread to be useful. Are there places to rent a handgun?

I went to Cape Town this summer. Just park your car in an indoor parking spot in your hotel. The only wtf moments I got was at night, a guy literally charged us on the side walk and our first night a woman was screaming it honestly sounded like someone was murdering her but turns out her kid was unconscious on the floor. Idk why. If you’re staying with in sea point then youll be fine. There’s guards every block

        >Honestly, is there a risk for carjackings?
Just take the same precautions one would take going on vacation in Brazil or Mexico.
If foreign tourists can hire a car in Johannesburg and drive to the Kruger Kruger National Park then Cape Town shouldn't be more riskier.
December-January is peak tourist season and Cape Town is usually flooded with cops.
Can't drink on a public beach and they confiscate alcohol.

Honestly, is there a risk for carjackings?
        >Sure, but that's everywhere. I've never had a problem, but like I said, I always rent 4x4s (land cruisers, prados, fortuners) so my plan is if I'm getting carjacked, I smash the gas a GTFO. Now, has that every happened, no. I've driven through rural, middle of nowhere, towns where streets are packed with 100s/1000s of people, and have driven through with no issue. Don't roll your windows down, outside of animal parks, and don't park in dark areas. When I was with my wife, while leaving a restaurant, I noticed there was loadshedding and the streets were dark and it was very late. I asked the waiter to walk us to our car, he did, and I tipped an extra R50. I travel there for work, so budget isn't an issue and any damages to any car should I get into a problem, will be an insurance problem.

Can I inadvertently go into a bad area or are they in the outskirts?
        >Of course, but if you're just in the Western Cape, you won't end up in any bad areas. If you're in KwaZulu-Natal, then you will drive through bad areas.

I want to see if I shouldn't get a car, maybe taxi is better for me.
        >Rent a car and go where you want.

Also, I want to rent a car from one of the big corporations, like Avis, Entrprise, do you know if there is a problem with this (seeing how you use the SA company Bluu).
        >Rent from whoever you want. I caused ~$1,000 damage to my last rental there, and it was painless to work through my insurance, and they offered to change my car for free in Cape Town (was driving to Johannesburg) just due to the cosmetic. I was impressed by their customer service.

Hotel wise, seems very expensive for my budget haha, I can't pay 350/night, but I will find a nice place in a safe area
        >Splurge if you can. I don't know where you live, but I live in Miami. A $100 dinner in SA would be $1,000+ here in Miami. A $350/night hotel, would be $1,000+/night here. So the value is so much better than I experience.

Wow uh racism much? Why do you assume violence just because you’re a minority now? Self reflect then think of your future.

Data doesn't lie. Since the blacks took over, ZA has become the murder capitol of the world next to the black areas of the US. I want to see South Africa someday, but I won't put myself in harm's way around out of control savages.
