Do any of you know how to get cheap plane tickets to Japan?
I intend to go there mostly for the food and to bring back retro video games and consoles.

It's a 12-hour flight from Los Angeles to Tokyo at the very least. Splurge a little, tip the stewardess really good to make you Bloody Mary's all the way over there.

Tipper' a hundred or two and she'll keep them coming. I've never had an empty drink in my hand for more than a minute before a fresh drink is in my hands. Vodka cranberries are another one of my favorites.

I paid 500 CAD from Vancouver. From San Fran the flight should be around the same price. we have a site called yvr deals that always shows flight sales.

Wait you're supposed to fricking tip he stewardess? Is this why I saw one of them follow some old fat bastard on business class into the bathroom?

Haha, I've been in Porta John's that had more space than a 747s restroom. Like I said it's just to keep the drinks strong and coming. It's not like it's the 1970s where the stewardesses dressed in skirts. I pay for the convenience, small price to pay for everything else I'm already forking over. Ever had to wake up from the noise of a crying child 10 rows behind you in the middle of the flight? you won't if you're passed out. The great thing about Bloody Marys is that you can have them at any time of day, morning, afternoon, nighttime. Then relax while listening to my albums.

The way I see it I would probably spend the same amount of money at the airport bar pre-gaming for a shorter flight. 18 bucks for a fricking Shiner.

Wait for tourist season to end. Flights from Europe were 1000€ a month ago. Now they're almost 2000. They should come back down by mid September.

Trick is to not book round trip flights, you would think they are cheaper as a combo deal but that's not even true. Find the cheapest flight the week you want to go, then go on that date. Then find the cheapest flight back on that week.

Spent $2k(120k miles then paid $2k on a Wed flight back) on round trip business class via JAL. Only drawback is I think I am blacklisted for 5 years for Amex, Chase, Capital One and BILT.

moronic take. Almost all airlines uses one way indexes in their pricing to punish you for not buying roundtrips. Most also use minimum stay rules or Sunday rules in their pricing to segment business customers from leisure customers.

Not when you use miles/points. They know you will most likley use rewards to go back, so they tend to charge you a bit more.
        Cash = book roundtrip
Rewards = verify if separte tix are cheaper.

Not OP and not concerned about price but when I book tickets I want to be sure to fly on JAL or ANA. I know sometimes the ticket will say one thing, but then you end up on a plane operated and staffed by United or AA, or whatever else. I know this is how it is with a lot of airlines and destinations, so how do I fly with a specific company?

      >I know sometimes the ticket will say one thing, but then you end up on a plane operated and staffed by United or AA, or whatever else.
It's called codeshare and it's the bread and butter or the airline industry.
      >I know this is how it is with a lot of airlines and destinations, so how do I fly with a specific company?
By opening your eyes and reading what airline operates your flight, as airlines are required to list the operating carrier when selling tickets for codeshare flights.

No. Give me a more in depth explanation or else I will call you a LARPer. Now tell me, how do I avoid codeshares?

Look at the flight numbers. Put it into flightradar24 and make sure it's a nip plane

Make sure the flight is ANA...their flight numbers begin with NH

            Anonymous

You do know wha codeshare is?
You buy tickets for a flight starting with NH and still be flying on United.
All that matters is the operating carrier and it's a requirement to tell you about it.

    >get on plane passes out for 10 hours
This happens to me all the time, should I even splurge for Business? I have the miles for it now but with the same miles I can also fly two round trips for free for the price of one business. But then again in terms of using real money business is like 4-5 times more than economy so it would be stupid for me to not use the miles for business. What sucks is I am probably not gonna take advantage of the meals in business.

Being able to fly two times or being able to fly once in more comfort?
