      >Cartagena
Yes, Cartagena is prosperous, and the prostitutes in the Old City are top-quality and plentiful - however, Cartagena is a city which thrives on scams, ripoffs, and aggressive touting of scams and ripoffs. Cartagena was one of my final destinations in Colombia, and while I enjoyed my stay in the neat and tranquil Manga neighborhood, I was disgusted by the aggressive touts, constant solicitations to buy drugs, and ripoff prices in the old city. Hardly the best of Latin America on display.
Anyone recall the Obama-era Secret Service agent who created a diplomatic scene when he refused to pay more than $70 USD to a Cartagena prostitute who demanded 700 dollars? Cartagena in a nutshell.

I did not see any thugs around, but you might be physically engaged by the touts in order to lead you into their club, especially if you stop and show interest in what they are saying like a newbie tourist. you can rest assured you will be out of a lot of money by the time you leave.

Yes that was funny. There were a ton of US homies involved.

I can speak a bit on Mexico

The entire Yucatan peninsula is fricking hot and miserable most of the year. But Merida and Campeche are ok to visit (for a few weeks) in December-February-ish. Check out the historic centers and some quiet beach towns, but it'll lose it's charm after awhile. Rent a car or Uber around, public transpo is non existent.
Yucatecan women are probably the least attractive in all of Mexico, unless you go for the lighter skinned "Yucafresas" (which you probably won't as they don't date outsiders) or go for a Venezuelan refugees (some are really attractive).
Been here 2.5 years and I'm sick of it personally.

Mexico City is worth visiting. God-tier food, neat architecture to enjoy, climate is almost perfect, amazing nightlife and bars if you're into that. I really recommend some of the parks outside city if you like nature and shit. Desierto de los Leones is really enjoyable on the right day. Fricking digital nomad types arriving since the pandemic have caused prices of everything to skyrocket in certain neighborhoods. $50-100 USD used to be enough for a really fun night out. Was pretty easy to find dates on apps, can find all kinds of different types of girls and personalities. Used to live here a few years, was never bored.

Guadalajara is essentially a smaller Mexico City. Delicious food and I definitely recommend trying a torta ahogada, but I wouldn't pick it if you were only visiting one city in LatAm. 10/10 women here tho. Public transport is kinda meh here too. Use Uber

Monterrey is neat, good nightlife and attractive women in many places. Chaotic traffic though and public transport is lacking compared to CDMX. Feels more like Texas than Mexico in a way, kind of a cowboy culture there. Would probably be a decent intro to Mexico if it was a first visit.

Maybe if I feel like it later I'll talk about Oaxaca or some other places I've visited. Could also answer more in depth questions regarding Mexico. Can't speak for Colombia.

I would be interested in hearing more.
I've driven Baja and spent a little under a month in Guadalajara, enjoy running, cycling, beaches, mountains, and cooming (especially the massage variety, which seems relatively unusual in the parts of Mexico I've visited).

For interesting outdoor experiences and nice weather I recommend visiting the state of Hidalgo a few hours from Mexico City, it's not on most tourists radar but there's some stunning natural parks there. Parque Nacional El Chico outside Pachuca is super quiet and laid back. Also the small towns of Mineral del Chico and Mineral Del Monte are pretty interesting. Mineral Del Monte has a pretty interesting Anglo influence in the architecture and food due to a bunch of miners from Cornwall living there years ago.

Getting a massage with final feliz (happy ending) doesn't happen often. Best luck I had was in CDMX around Colonia Escandon. There a few massage places where you could get extra service, some of them were on Google Maps even. Expect $500 MXN for a 60-90 minutes massage, maybe $700. Some might not provide HE on the first visit, personally wouldn't pay more than $300 for a handy. $500 for oral. Some places offer a "masaje tantrico" or "masaje energetico" it varies by the provider but is typically a massage with HJ for $1000-$1200 pesos. Sometimes I'd go for that option if I didn't feel like running the risk of not cooming as it's guaranteed HE.. I found a really cute Milf type that I liked and became a frequent enough customer that eventually she was coming to my apt for massage and movie dates. Was nice until my actual GF at the time found out. Ooops.

Merida there's like 3 or 4 places and they're all ridiculously expensive. Yucatan culture isn't as sex positive. Massage cooming is harder here and the girls that do it aren't very enthusiastic about it. I have like one place here that's pretty consistent for $1000 total for a really nice edging type HJ.

          >state of Hidalgo
thanks, just put that on my radar
I'd like to spend a while in Puebla and climb some volcanoes one of these days, too
          >Best luck I had was in CDMX around Colonia Escandon

Heading to CDMX in 11 days, really interested in checking out Oaxaca and Guanajuato. Unsure which of the two I should spend time in and try to get amongst for a month plus or more. Would love to hear your thoughts on Oaxaca and other spots. I heard Guadalajara kind of sucks now from one of my mexican buddies mom, said it's pretty "gay" and silicon valley leftist like California. Any thoughts on that?

Personally Guanajuato is one of my favorite states. Right now it's sorta sketch in the countryside but still worth visiting. Leon is underrated in my opinion. Guanajuato capital is a must visit. I miss just being able to walk around the city at night and pop into random bars. Lot of college aged girls there but they seemed kinda wishy washy about actually meeting.
Cafe Tal is fantastic. Ask for the Cafe Parkinsons or "Un Beso Black en publico, por favor".
Pet the cat if he comes up to you but don't force it.

Oaxaca is neat too. I have experience around Puerto Escondido, and Zipolite. But haven't made it to the city of Oaxaca itself. Escondido is relatively chill, can't swim too much in the water because the waves are pretty intense but for surfing it's great. Got to hire a boat and see dolphins, turtles and shit, was pretty kino. Great place if you just wanna daydrink and watch the sun go down.

Your buddies mom is correct on GDL. Everything is the same price as CDMX but lacks the depth and variety. It was probably fun years ago but whatever was there isn't there now.
