It is generally assumed that you're not a newbie in need of spoonfeeding and are aware of board culture.
In this case, OP is asking if Costa Rica is worth visiting or if it's a horribly expensive Boomer trap

That's not the point you fricking moron. Explain what exactly he fears would be a trap or he can frick off is what he means.

Anyway costa rica is beautiful and lots of fun but I have preferred my time in Panama more. Boquete and bocas del Toro were really great.

This. Zoomers and their buzzwords can frick off.

          >just allow le buzzword spewing moron meme board culture, dude

          Fine, here's the quick rundown
          >since ticos are actually good with money the exchange rate isn't as favorable as other LATAM countries, things are expensive compared to its neighbors
          >there's no mongering scene here, you're better off going to Colombia for that
          >there's no historical sites worth seeing except those weird alien balls, if you're into archeology you're better off going to Mexico or Guatemala
          >people are nice enough but then again so are many in other countries
          >food is nothing special
          >only expats there are obnoxiously clueless Boomers
          >only thing worth seeing is the nature (which you can see elsewhere and probably for cheaper)
          There
          Fricking autists

then there is no reason to go there, unless you want the all exclusive boomer experience for 5 times the price than other neighbouring countries.

Should I fly into San Jose or Liberia? I mostly just wanna chill on the beach and do hikes and shit. Is it worth to rent a car if I am by myself? I heard the bus system is centered around San Jose so it can be annoying if you are trying to get somewhere without going all the way back to San Jose

Had a friend who spent a month there in a five-star resort last winter...his girlfriend was the paypig, LOL.

My friend flew into Liberia. He didn't want to go anywhere near the shithole that is San Jose.

Restaurants are expensive as frick in CR. So is tourist lodging. My friend was charged $40 for a fricking joint. Tourists can get by without speaking Spanish. CR is not as safe as Southeast Asia.

it is pricey there. The sodas can be a cheaper place to eat or if you get an airbnb you can shop and cook for yourself to control a bit of cost. Did that when spending time in around Liberia and then over to Puerto Viejo on the Caribbean side. Getting a little house with a porch, a hammock, a short drive from a random beach is pretty nice trip. Just be prepared to spend as it is not a cheap country. It is really beautiful nature wise though. I also second anon's Liberia recommendation for an airport. There are lots of nice little towns close by to stay in that are not Tamagringo.

It seems like a resort-destination like Cancun. You go there to stay at a nice hotel with English speaking staff and maybe do some curated trips away from urban centers. You don't really hear about people staying at an AirBNB in San José for a couple ways and enjoying the city as their vacation the same way people do with a place like Mexico City. That said, you might be able to leverage the tourist infrastructure to enjoy modern amenities while still going off the beaten path for your trip.

It's also one of the wealthiest Latin American countries.

Glad I found this thread. Want to surprise my wife with 5-6 kid free days for our 10 year anniversary this November. Debating between Puerto Rico and Costa Rico. 2 mountain nights, three beach nights. Thoughts?

It rains a lot in November in Puerto Rico. Almost went this past nov but canceled for this reason.

Cloud forest and Mt Arvenal is quite nice in Costa Rica, though the volcano is no longer spewing lava to my knowledge. Its also difficult and slow to get around Costa Rica.

How does Nicaragua compare to Costa Rica and how doable is it with no Spanish? I’ve been intrigued by the city of Granada for years and the lake seems chill

Let me put it this way: Costa Rica is a paradise compared to Nicaragua, which is only slightly better than Guatemala.
I suggest you pick up some conversational Spanish otherwise you'll get nowhere, no one talks English there.
If you do decide to go there though consider spending a day or two in Léon, it's the country's old capital and has beautiful colonial architecture if you're into that thing.

Thanks for the reality check anon. If you have time could you elaborate on how Nicaragua makes Costa Rica look like a paradise in comparison?

My thinking was that it seems to be in just about the same climate zone as Costa Rica, way cheaper, and to have way more interesting histories and cities. But there’s obviously a reason why it’s not the tourist hotspot Costa Rica is

NTA but Costa Rica has a much higher level of economic and political stability than Nicaragua. It's like the difference between Thailand and Cambodia or Israel and Egypt.
