Fricking weebs. This pissed me off. I never had respect for him so maybe I’m just jealous. He’s got a hot gf, loads of money, and moved to JP. But I don’t want him inspiring his massive autistic audience to move there. There’s enough weebs as is and Japan is being ruined constantly by foreigners. And they’re gonna have a kid there? Poor little bastard. That’ll probably suck.

I hope Marcia gets over her weeb bullshit, she’s a 30yr old soon to be mom, and leaves. Then I hope Felix gets assassinated by some nationalistic psycho, which then scares off all the white failures from going to JP acting like they can somehow be chads there

I have noticed this pattern where whites in Japan don't like to associate with other whites in Japan because they can immediately tell when someone is a loser

It's hilarious actually, I was watching this streamer yesterday who gets approached by some random foreigner who starts chatting up with him, he immediately tries to cut his conversion short and tries to run away but he keeps him engaged asking the usual boring questions. Even the chat starts calling him a cringy loser.

Maybe the internet really deluded a bunch of failures into thinking they will fix their lives by moving to another country lol

Pewdiepie moving there is a million times more embarrassing than ABroadinJapan. At least Chris moved there right out of uni with nothing in his pocket besides a teaching job, got through the culture shock of living in a small village for his first few years, built up a Youtube channel and made Japanese friends organically etc etc etc

meanwhile this dude is 100% just like “wow all my epic Youtube friends went to Japan after COVID, I’m a billionaire so I’ll just move to the most expensive place right in Tokyo!”, probably does nothing but hang out with other Youtubers. Bet he moves out of the country within a few years

Let’s hope he does, but after the investment of a whole hole and being willing to have his kid born there I bet he won’t. Wonder if the kid will get citizenship due to being born on Japanese soil? Maybe the child’s parents are exploiting that as a way to anchor themselves there

which is what makes Pewdiepie way more pathetic IMO, AbroadinJapan just came to the country as a teacher and even now I doubt makes anywhere near enough to even have one million, whereas with PDP it’s clearly just a thing of “oh cool I saw all my other epic youtube friends going there, how about I stunt on them by moving to Tokyo!”

He already moved. That’s bad enough. The concerning but is his career, his influence. Don’t need him advertising Japan to his hundred million subscribers on YT because even if 0.1% of them decide to move there because he did - even if it’s easier for him to - that’s 0.1% too many. He and whatever other YouTubers moving there in even single digit numbers is bad enough. Tokyo has already been ruined, Kyoto is next, but white weaboo expats will destroy the whole country. I have more respect for based morons thinking they’ll get a Nip wife than the anime watching homosexuals

Pewdiepie was like a shut-in in Britain, though. After moving to Japan, Pewdiepie's skin became noticeably more tan whereas back in Britain, his skin was always pale white. Also, in one of his moving to Japan videos, Pewdiepie said he had to deal with fans hanging in front of his apartment building every week. Some even knocked on his front door a few times. Now, in Japan, nobody goes out of their way to bother him when he is outside.

You make a good point actually, the only japanese people that have a presence on his channel are well-travelled (Ryotaro) or weird in their own culture (Natsuki). Maybe that's one of the reasons why he talks about leaving Japan eventually but nobody seems sure how successful he will be somewhere else. I wonder if his work ethic with the channel masks discomfort with actually trying to engage with Japanese life - even if being truly accepted is impossible.

Just because his content is directed towards a non savvy western audience doesn't mean shit about how he is IRL.
Anything that gets too in depth about a country gets politically incorrect very quickly. The rare times he toes the line, he avoids controversy by being very superficial in his criticism and by being extremely self deprecating.

                >But he could do more in depth shit about Japan
And become a boring japanese culture channel n°576 where he'll have to compete with actual japs ?

                >The japanese people he hangs out in his videos with are not "normal"
Two reasons : any 'normal" japanese person would rather not star in a youtube video.
Also, most people already have their friend circles by their mid twenties as most friendships are formed at school. Move from LA where you graduated to Seattle and you'll see how hard it is to make friends from scratch while working.

It's even worse in japan. And even worse if you don't work in a classic workplace but as an english teacher or a youtuber. That Broad even had jap friends to begin with is a testimony to his willingness to integrate despite the obstacles.

Holy Christ this projection. Most are normal people just looking to practice conversation or they just want to meet people from other countries. You acting like it’s some amazing feat TO HAVE A JAPANESE FRIEND, IN JAPAN! is flat out ridiculous.

Maybe you think that because neither of the two are "weirdoes" to you either. Maybe not. But one thing is certain, you'd probably find it weird if people in your own country went out of their way to meet foreigners.

And even if i conceeded that making normie friends out of town, especially a foreign one and especially in japan, was an easy task, maybe the normie friends he has just do not want to have their face on youtube. But i won't conceed because it was hard for me, for most people who did, and most people don't.

Also, easy on the paranoia. It's not that people are paid to actively disagree with you, it's just that your takes are fricking moronic, mostly baseless or a sample of one (WELL I COULD MAKE FRIENDS THE OTHERS THAT DON'T ARE moronS) type of argument.

Most countries aren’t as ethnically homogenous as Japan, but I’m sure you knew that.

                >But i won't concede because it was hard for me, for most people who did, and most people don't

Literally all I did was go to meet up event. Beyond that I’ve made friends though my own interests and hobbies, like any normal person would

What are you on about bro, literally everyone complains that they can't make jap friends in japan.

It isn’t hard to make friends. I’ve made several with minimal effort. The problem most expats have is that the level of friendship you have is much more casual than say, friends from school. But that’s because most don’t realize that’s just how friendships are the older you get.

No, they want to practice conversation. But, chances are, you want to practice Japanese too if you’re an expat. So it generally works out for people who aren’t on the spectrum. Which unfortunately is a substantial amount expats who come here.

              >Abroad doesn't seem to care much about japanese people in general, he mostly shows the country but not the people (unless they are deeply westernized), he can't relate to them.

Still, that's the best he can do? For frick's sake, he doesn't even want kids.

sounds about right considering he moved there just because he wanted to live overseas and barely knew anything about japan

Dating as a foreigner in Japan:

      >The Gaijin Hunter
Found in the vicinity of any military base, these women, while slightly hotter than average, are notoriously disloyal and usually juggling 2-3 “boyfriends” at a time. They have a preconceived notion of what a foreign guy is, and won’t hesitate to drop you the instant you step out beyond that framework. Most of them work in the nightlife industry and have a kid or two living with grandma in the inaka that you’ll only find out about several months into your relationship.

      >The Cosmopolitan Girl
Studied abroad in an English-speaking country during college (usually Aus/NZ but sometimes the US/Canada), she’s developed strong left-wing tendencies and wants to politely rebel against society by dating a (usually white) foreigner. Almost always below average in terms of looks, she’s a careerist that won’t even think about having kids with you until she’s knocking on 38. Will want to start a lifestyle TikTok/Youtube channel with you, and will drag you around to mixers and social events with other Japanese-Foreigner couples.

      >The Other Foreigner
Just like you, she somehow ended up staying in this strange country and has been mindlessly pushing through the days, wondering what it’s all for. You immediately have a lot in common, and it’s very easy to feel a connection when society seems to work against you a lot of the time. Run the gamut in terms of physical appearance, from smelly hambeasts to girls so hot you couldn’t even imagine yourself speaking to them under any other circumstance. The relationship will always start off well, but eventually you’ll have to confront THE REASONS why both you and her came to Japan instead of trying to make a life for yourself in your respective countries, and the truth of the matter might not be a very pretty one.

        You forgot:
        >The OL
Accessible only by speaking Japanese fluently. Many hurdles during the dating process due to stereotypes on both sides. Expects to get married after some time and either wants to keep working in Japan or become a housewife in Japan or in your country if inclined.
        >The Non-Western foreigner
Comes in SEA and MENA variants. Work can range from technically not nightlife, low-level factory work to postdocs. Big gamble if they're better at Japanese or English, either will cause amusement with native speakers. Will quickly introduce you to her large social circle of compatriots you've never noticed before. Will want to get married soon, your future being either in Japan or her hometown, you being assigned the role of the family wallet.

Plenty of yt girls in JP. White girls have no personality anymore so they just become weebs and do cosplay of generic anime b***h that’s trending on TikTok. Then they get this idea in their heads that white beauty standards will give them an advantage overseas, but other countries that don’t give them the “ick” are white already, so the last option is Japan or South Korea. It’s super common and SUPER annoying. Honestly male weebs are more tolerable. They can have yellow fever, sure, but they’re still “losers back home” and might hang at the weird shops buying hentai with the local losers. Entitled white women act like the ground they walk on should be kissed, and ironically as racist as they are they’ll also Asianfish which is pathetic and looks like shit on them. They’ll visit Tokyo or Kyoto which are about as Japanese as Chinatown in NYC and never shut up about basic crap for the rest of their lives. “Oh I love sushi” when they’re talking about Americanized crap like a cream cheese and guacamole spicy tuna roll or something. They make no effort to study language prior and have the guts to consider themselves “cultured” because they visited a touristy shrine and took IG pics there

They also can’t compete with the locals on looks (or attitude) but nice try, pigs

I think this only applies to white girls who are actually pretty attractive back home because I know a LOT of girls who mentally could not cope with the complete 180 flip of suddenly having to compete and not have hundreds of guys constantly hitting them up.

The expat guys almost always go for locals and the local guys also want local too and if they don't it's always just to coom to check the "white girl" box.

I personally love to witness the dynamic, it's almost like payback. It's why a lot of them eventually just go home.

                >Culture shock
It's not culture shock. What women specifically experience is the consequence of their own selective dating system that has been hinging on arbitrary criteria rather than healthy legitimate ones. They b***h and moan about yellow fever and fetishization, but they do the exact contrary and do not give the local chinks the time of day, actively avoiding even casual conversations, which is really just as bad if not worse.
Every single foreign woman I have met actively avoids japs and desperately tries to frick either whites or blacks.

This is even more ridiculous than men in the west, because they don't have much of a choice no matter what ethnic preferences they have, all women there have a ridiculous advantage in the dating market. All the women in japan have to do is practice what they preach, see beyond race, and date the locals just like we do. And if you don't like an ethnicity, maybe don't fricking live in their country so you don't have to live with them.

                Anonymous

                >heir own selective dating system
You speak as if men had nothing to do with this. Of course women get to be picky as frick when they have one million horndogs chasing them every single fricking day online and IRL, and simping them just to get a crumb of pussy. If men were not so desperate women would have to start putting some effort, as you can see already happens in countries like Japan.

This is something that has happened to me personally: just having a Linkedin profile is enough for me to get endless job offers, and I've started to act like a picky b***h with companies that have very reasonable offers because I get constant attention and I can afford being very selective. I would have to make an effort but thankfully companies are fricking desperate.

Read the post again. The issue isn't the idea of selecting. The idea is that you're picking criteria that are incompatible with the place you're in.

The truth is, white woman go to Asia and do not want to date Asian men. I don't care whether the reasons are legit or not and I do not believe that racial preferences in dating are immoral, but when you go there and you have automatically outed 99% of men living there, don't complain that you can't get into a relationship. Don't act like the standards you expected from men apply to the 1% of man you're willing to date there.
Also, and that is true of almost all women (save the ones who actually date asian men, I WONDER WHY) abroad are even worse at integrating with the locals than the men. They have their own fricking book clubs, they stay together, they live as if the locals do not even exist, men and women.

Look at Sharm (gf) vs Abroad in Japan (bf)'s videos and prevalence of japanese folks as main characters of a video. I've had to go through 10 to 20 videos on Sharm's channel to find an actual japanese participant but both male and female foreigners are all over the place. Chris's second video on the other hand has his friend Ryotaro for most of it.

And then they have the gall to chalk it up to "fetishization of asian women", because they just can't possibly comprehend that men aren't dignified enough to just refuse putting up with their shit.
The first time I lived in Asia was in Taiwan 8 years ago, spent 3 years there then came back home. I used to pick up chicks like no problem back before I left for Taiwan, but when i came back from my expatriation I couldn't help but feel aggravated by how rude women back home are now, looking at ALL men like they're a bunch of potential rapists. It's just too bad that they act the same way when the guy in front of them just isn't one (which actually is most men).

                Anonymous

I know you're talking about but that is something that comes after accepting the fact that women get to be picky. It's expected that if you're a picky b***h, you will be a picky b***h anywhere. All the things you've mentioned are a lesson for someone who's already aware of that, but women need severe culture shock to realize they're spoiled and have to start putting some effort.

If i can get away with stealing shit at my local 7/11 in Chicago, but go to Japan, steal shit and then get caught, i'm not experiencing "culture shock". Both cultures shun the idea of stealing. One lets you get away with it due to a certain social context, the other doesn't, but in neither should you think being a thief is okay. I was a dumbass not to do my research first, and if I complained about that, people would make fun of me.

Same goes for women. being condescending has never been considered as a good trait by anyone -they just got away with it back home. Now they're in a new environment where that works against them and they complain -and people make fun of them. And it's even funnier when they start projecting their own racism towards men : "the only reason why they tolerate the bugmen is because they want to frick their women".

This isn't someone who feels depressed and lonely because japanese people are a little aloof, which would be a legit example of culture shock. This is someone that rejects others actively for no reasonable reason and then feels lonely. God laughs at people who complain about consequences, the cause of which they cherish

I mean, anon, it's women we're talking about. My point about them not being at fault for the existence of simps still remains, but are you really expecting the majority of women (or men, to be fair) to do research before making decisions?

I don't know how you couldn't get this from my previous post, but i'll repeat it again in simpler terms : The presence of enablers does not excuse universally agreed upon shitty behavior. In my previous example, the USA enables crime in certain cities by allowing it to happen with no consequences, but even the filthiest criminal knows and acknowledges that what they do is universally frowned upon.
                .
                >but are you really expecting the majority of women (or men, to be fair) to do research before making decisions?
To continue with the analogy, if you were not a thief in the US, you probably won't get caught by the Japanese police because you won't be stealing in Japan either. There is no need for research. It's basic, universal morality that is applicable in both Japan and your home country.
The women that behave decently will continue to behave decently if they go to Japan, and I hope they find the right partner, jap or white or otherwise. The condescending b***hes on the other hand will have to readapt themselves. Why should I feel any sort of compassion for someone who not only doesn't want to see the errors of their ways but reject the responsibility of their own failures on others ? Which brings me to this :

                >it's women we're talking about
Women should be held accountable for their actions just like any other being. You want to forgive them ? Good on you bro, but don't call us bitter for finding this shit hilarious.

Most Japanese women don't look attractive and I think Chris looks alright. He's not built like a twig like most Asian guys, but he has nice facial features and is generally a funny guy, though I don't think Asian women care much for humor.

        >Chris really should be able to punch above his weight irrespective of the race of girl he's dating.
picrel is his ex. Chris doesn't have game. You can be the funniest guy when you're with the boys, that doesn't necessarily translate to being funny with girls, especially japs.

He’s had multiple Jap GFs and had multiple videos explaining how the cultural difference sucks and that most of the time you’re just their boytoy for a fun fling till they move on to a “real” relationship with another native.

These threads make a lot more sense when you remember the anons crying about it are just weebs with zero experience in relationships or Japan itself

All Japan Youtubers are shit and produce content that generally falls into to 2 general categories:

      >ZOMG wacky Japan!!

      >Let me show you how it REALLY is here

I unironically find the former more interesting because at least between thousands of low quality videos on kiaten sushi or some ramen restaurant, I'll occasionally see something I haven't tried here yet that looks interesting.

The latter is largely 20 somethings who have little to no work experience before coming here and generally have ill formed opinions largely clouded by their own inexperience that get labeled as foreigner living Japan issues that probably just have to do more with them and where they are in life.

        >People show stuff they find quirky
You don't find that quirky because you've done so much research on Japan the things they show aren't really novelty to you

        >Some guy talks about his personal perspective of Japan
You don't find him interesting because he's not of the same demographic as you and you either have more experience or aggregated enough testimonies that you're not that interested.
Japan is only one country, there's only so many things to discuss, and it's made for people who probably will either never go to Japan and do not know much about Asia in general.

Just because you're tired from a genre doesn't mean the genre is shit. But it does make you an elitist weeb to assume that everyone has to be on your level when it comes to Japan.

Japan and youtube vlogs are mostly gateways into a certain subject and never really explore it in-depth, notably because doing anything in-depth would either fall into the field of politics or personal territory, neither of which would be prudent to discuss on youtube.

It isn’t even that, I wouldn’t be shocked if something like 70% of content that gets produced is just rehashed from content produced years earlier or sourced from shit pulled from 15 year old blog posts. Chris isn’t particularly original, he doesn’t offer any amazing insight into Japan all he really does is package it up for people too lazy to google.

            Anonymous

            >Chris isn’t particularly original
I'm pretty sure even HE doesn't have the pretense to be original. Talking about Japan is probably one of the most overdone thing on the internet. The very website we're currently using is partly made for just that.
            >he doesn’t offer any amazing insight into Japan
Again, it's not amazing *to you* because you've read so much shit about Japan you probably realized, like everyone here, that it's just a country like any other with maybe a few quirks here and there, and his videos definitely make a good job of pointing some of them at the very least.
            >all he really does is package it up for people too lazy to google.
Not lazy to google, but they're either on their first stages of looking for information, and youtubers are great for bundling all that basic info in one neat video, and he's actually pretty good at that. That, or people that just can't be arsed and are content with simply listening to what he says because chances are they're never going to Japan, or just know that most of the info they will ever need will be available on these vids unless they live there, in which case they will figure that out on their own as they go.

There's something for everyone, and the more basic you get, the more popular you are. Not everyone needs to be fricking Ryan Boundless talking shit about obscure aspects of Japan. I just hope the guy figures something out eventually, as this whole thing will probably get very tired in a few years.

Chris confessed that he gave up on being fluent in Japanese years ago so his mentality will always remain as a British tourist in Japan instead of an actual resident in Japan

There is very little reason to remain fluent in Japanese unless your job requires it so you can put bread on the table. Sure there is the e-peen otaku aspect of how fricking /based/ you can be due to it on the internet, but at the end of the day you only speak it in one country of use.

I got pretty good at it but just stopped bothering since pushing my skillset in my career outweighed keeping up with, japanese shit outside some anime/manga shits.

      >Fluent
Fluency in a language is rarely attained. Guy speaks japanese as good as your average euro speaks english. That's enough to be functional. Granted, he'd need more if he were evolving in a japanese workplace environment. But he was not. Not only that, but the post you mention was discussing JLPT, not Japanese as a skill, which are two distinct things at higher levels.

When has he talked about struggling with the language? (not doubting it just curious which videos)

In videos I've seen him speak Japanese he seems to have a decent grasp of the language,, not an expert but conversational for sure.

He probably stopped studying Japanese a long time ago, he has enough to get by comfortably, talk to locals and doesn't need to be good at Japanese for his job.
