Hostelworld shows you flags of the guests, avoid if you see a bunch of Israel or France.
Don't book too many days before you've stayed there. It could suck or something and you want to be able to be flexible.

Why?
Go to the common room or bar and try to talk to people. Most people who come to these things want to engage with other people. Come with good stories and willingness to drink or do whatever. Try not to cringe too loudly when the inevitable dick measuring compeition starts with with people trying to tell you how long they have been out on their current trip backpacking or how many countries they have been.
It's funny when you they do their dick measuring contest and you act like a well adjusted human and just try to have a normal conversation rather than replying back with your dick measuring or fawn over their stories. You can sense their disappoinment mixed with anger.

Went to a hostel in Munich, nagger took my credit card info and spent thousands on random shit and train tickets after I saw my statement later. Had all my shit on me while I was sleeping. Either get a lock briefcase or something or stay away
