Has anyone here ever travelled in the pacific?

Has anyone here ever travelled in the pacific? I'd love to go to Fiji or somewhere like that, I just worry that it's expensive and geared towards resort travel/ rich families
Is backpacking a big thing thing?

You cant really 'travel' the pacific unless you are some retired boomer with a decent boat and decent money. Its expensive flights to small shitty airports and then a taxi to a resort.

    >I just worry that it's expensive and geared towards resort travel/ rich families.

You have hit the nail on the head.

    >Is backpacking a big thing thing?

Not in the slightest. The only time I heard of backpackers going to the likes of Fiji is after or before being in Aus/NZ or sometimes SEA on the way to US/EU. And its not 'backpacking' as there are no hostels, its just them staying in a hotel for a few nights.

    t. Kiwi who has been to Fiji and Tonga

      Thanks for confirming what I thought ;_;
I thought maybe Fiji would be centralised enough for some hostels and to be a destination for backpackers
Although I've heard maybe the main island is not that nice for beaches and stuff anyway and you'll still got to shell out for a boat to the nice islands

Is not. The pacific has some amazing beaches and coral reefs, but also a surprising number of straight up ugly as frick beaches. Many are volcanic rocks and ironically most of the 'cities' are by said ugly beaches. I haven't been, but New Caledonia seems to have the nicest beaches that are accessible without staying at a resort. Fiji and Tonga do not. Pic related is the capital of Tonga

Honestly go to SEA; its cheaper and there is backpacker infrastructure.

I've already done SEA a bit but I guess I can try out some other spots
I just don't like the people there, I want to go to the pacific because I think the people are great and friendly and I've heard of visitors having a great time being invited into peoples homes and being offered kava and stuff

lol, I go away for like an hour and some insane frick is having a go at someone else (thinking its me).

Its funny, because unlike YOU I have been to pacific islands and also SEA and so can give my 2 cents. And I also am a 'homosexual' who by the sounds of it, gets more ass than you. Cry more incel.

Just giving advice, take it or leave it my little Robinson Crusoe - no need to lose your fricking mind.

Fair enough. Do it, its just as I said, its not a backpacking destination at all thats all. And its not super expense as such, I went to Fiji as a teenager on a family holiday and my parents arent rich. I ent to Tonga with my then partner as an adult and we got a 'good' deal with flights and accom. But having backpacked in Asia on my own, its a million times more expensive thats for sure. My parents have also been to Rarotonga/Cook Islands and that has a less resort development vibe, while also feeling more 'western' - its like a tropical NZ where they use the same currency and everyone speaks English which a lot of the locals in other Islands dont. They just ABnB'd a house too and it wasn't super expensive.

Fiji worth it for a solo traveler spending a night there? I'm an American with a friend in Brisbane and want to visit him in Australia. I can get relatively cheap tickets that involve a long (over 24 hour) layover on one side of the trip in Fiji. Whatever the major airport is there. Idk what I'd go do, was just going to go to look for handcrafted shit to buy and go to the beach.

Honestly? I wouldn't for just a day, but thats me. Clearly some other guy on this thread feels differently.......

    >where are you going to backpack on a little island in the pacific, my dude?
Samoa and American Samoa, you turbo normie homosexual. The ferry takes an hour. You can also work as a deckhand to get between other island nations. It requires something called a sense of adventure, something your father had when he broke into the moron asylum and fricked your mother.

Thanks. I just puked on my balls. Overdosed on your normie homosexualory.

You obviously went with your aunt to a resort and now can't wait to start your Khoa San Road adventure. Don't give advice on here you travel lobotomized homosexual
