Don't cancel, it's just another case of alarmist media. Tourists aren't the problem especially when they drive most of the economy on Maui. Obviously you won't be going to Lahaina any time soon, but it's otherwise a non issue.

The government can't tell you where not to go on vacation in the same country. The only constraint you should consider is is your accommodation restored to being functional and staffed to a satisfactory level? If you can book it you can go. it's no one's business what you do during your leisure time.

I can understand why Hawaiians are upset. They were truly deceived into giving up their homeland, and can't even get haole (non-Hawaiians) to respect their land or culture. Haole would buy up all the property and price them out of the naturally beautiful areas to live in literal slums, or they turn the property into private resorts and not allow them access on their own beaches. That tourism money isn't all going to them.
Then the haole get mad when they see natives living in squalor and not having proper waste management while refusing to acknowledge that they pushed them into literal ghettos on their own land. They get mad when laws get passed prioritizing Hawaiians and get mad when Hawaiians can't live up to the standards that haole put upon them. They never asked to live such an industrialized lifestyle. They were perfectly fine being in balance with nature on their island.

Lahaina was the ancient capital of Hawaii. It is sacred to them. because if not for sugar cash crops and location for a war, hawaii would literally be Haiti but no supporting side of an island. Outside of a military base and tourism it literally has no exports that could sustain a modern infrastructure.
Why should they have "modern infrastructure"? When they can just live naturally on balance with their ecosystem like they've done for centuries. The difference with Haiti is that the people there were brought there as slaves - they are not native to Hispaniola - and they were forced to pay France millions of dollars after becoming independent.
