How the hell are they still in business? Has anyone ever had a positive experience with Greyhound within the last 20 years?

What alternatives are there? They charge like $1/mi so they really don't need to be full to make profit
They got bought out by Flix bus, recently did them from Dallas to Austin was fine picrelated.
Also yeah, if you stay out of the NE or bible belt it's fine. I use to take them all the time from PHX->LAX. It's almost 100% time of day and route dependent. I would never take it anywhere between atlanta to NYC following the I-95
Maybe if you book last minute, I would usually pay like 40 bucks 1 way to LAX+2 bags, overnight for a flight to asia on the cheap was the best way to save a boat load of cash.
The routes with mostly Hispanic ridership are the best by a long shot. Mexicans rarely misbehave on the bus.
this anon is right.
In texas tons of mexicans take the bus for work, especially seasonal work before actually going back. The ones that come legally have work visas and work six months out of the year and then go back and live like kings. $20/hr+ gets you the high life in mexico.
Just remember that where ever you go on a bus, you are riding with the poorest people of the area. The worst least educated people. I sat next to a religious loon who wouldn't stop talking about jesus until i pretended to fall asleep.
Renting a car isn't that bad of an idea but I don't think that's what OP wants.
Ironically the long distance busses in mexico are pretty nice. Way better than Greyhound.
>How the hell are they still in business?
Smuggling illegals into the rest of America funded by the government.
>I took that route from fgay to LA
Yeah you have literally all the trash coming from Alb/NM, most drop at PHX unless going through, night bus is always kino.
>blacks not on it or passed out drunk
>illegals all fricking huddled up and want no trouble
>sit in the front 1/3rd
>pop some edibles
>kino view of the stars and rest
>Where did they come from there aren't any in Flag.
PHX or glendale stop is full of them, if you did it during this month yeah no shit. It's how the homeless move, PHX is starting summer so the trash is on the move before it gets to hot to find a good place to be homeless again.
>PHX is starting summer so the trash is on the move before it gets to hot to find a good place to be homeless again
This was a year ago but I'm aware of the migration pattern. A lot of the beach cities in California have "homeless" people who dwell in derelict RVs or in alleys etc. They head out to the desert to do meth related shit in peace in the winter then park places around LA in the summer, begging on the beach and showering there enjoying the California climate.
>How the hell are they still in business?
Poor people need to travel regionally
while true, i don't understand how the routes that operate between cities that have amtrak connections are still operating.
Amtrak is almost always similarly priced, faster or similar travel time, and WAY comfier with food/drinks/alcohol available.
done LA to OAK a number of times, though only just within your time window
it was fine, overall door-to-door expense and hassle was comparable with flying, plus no TSA
Good question, OP. Long haul bus trips are how poor people fly. You get a certain type of people (can't call them out without getting banned) who are traveling cross country to meet their baby momma or recently got out of jail/prison
was also great when i was a student and had more time than money, could easily take an overnight bus to see family for the weekend.
Anyone ever travel across the US on a Greyhound, west coast to east coast and what was it like? The route I'm looking at would take 3 and a half days. I'm not allowed to fly, and Amtrak requires ID now.
>Amtrak requires ID
Student IDs count. Just needs a photo/name.
> Yes, Greyhound requires you to present an ID to an agent to board the bus. Make sure you have identification issued by a government agency that meets the carrier's requirements
Seems greyhound is even worse, they have mandatory ID checks whereas Amtrak is only under certain circumstances.
WTF is happening to this country?! Literally just a few years ago I got on a Greyhound for a short trip, maybe 4 hours, and I didn't need anything. That was 2019 I believe. So you don't need an ID to vote but you do to ride a fricking bus. What about the millions of Americans who don't have an ID? What if you're on the no-fly list (and thousands, maybe millions, of people worldwide are on it, or will be endlessly harrassed and publicly humiliated if not banned)? How are you supposed to travel if you can't legally drive a car, and can't take a train or bus? Frick this gay homosexual nation. I'd ride a bike or fricking walk interstate but it would be illegal to walk on the interstate and trespass when camping offroad. Holy shit my ancestors would be furious if they knew about this. This used to be a place where you could just go anywhere, anytime, without any restrictions. Tar and feather everyone working at Amtrak and Greyhound, tar and feather TSA and DHS, tar and feather all politicians and cops too for good measure.
Are you not able to get a passport or some shit? Are you stateless or just autistic and unwilling to compromise?
>just autistic and unwilling to compromise?
No, I am principled. There isn't a single god damned reason to require an ID to ride a fricking bus in my own country. I never needed one before, so why now? What possible reason? Terrorism? It's all fake and gay bullshit, made up by intel agencies and the media to justify draining the tax payers. TSA is security theater, everyone knows it. 911 was perpetrated by the US government. But people take it up the ass anyway for the luxury of being crammed into a tin can in the sky like sardines. My grandpa was put on the no-fly list for simply yelling at a postal worker who damaged his packages. An 80-year old veteran banned from flying for daring to raise his voice! No threats were made or he'd have gone to jail obviously. And I'm on the list too, just being related to him. So what is left except Amtrak and Greyhound? Fricking nothing. I loved my grandpa but he wasted his life serving this gay fricking country.
I just want to visit my aunt and uncle across the country once in my life but looks like I never will now.

First off, there is no national no-fly list for anything that isn't specifically terrorism related. Each airline has their own list of people who mouth off at gate employees or similar shit, but it isn't shared among all airlines so just book with a different airline.
Beyond that, even if your grandpa WAS banned from airtravel for some reason (yelling at a mail carrier wouldn't count, stop lying), it wouldn't have any impact on YOUR ability to fly in the US.
tldr; you're lying about the entire thing, or lying about specifics surrounding why you can't fly. Either way you're lying.
My grandpa was forced to take Amtrak the rest of his life because no airport would let him fly anymore, and it happened just weeks after the post office incident. This was in 2003 or so, security theater was reaching a fever pitch (still stronger than ever), and it has affected my family. Being related to someone on the list will have you searched and questioned extra. I refuse to be a part of that, and even if I wasn't, TSA has no right to exist.
>Why not drive?
Because I don't have an ID, let alone a driver's license. I refuse to get fingerprinted and photographed. The government has no business collecting that information. I am not a violent criminal, and I'm not a terrorist, but I'm treated like one. Citizens are treated like medical guinea pigs, stuck with experimental drugs in exchange for donuts and employment, and soon after birth, we have our foot sliced open and DNA samples sent to databases like lab rats. It's disgusting and I want no part in it.
>you may need to pay for camping or a room if your route has you ending the day without public land nearby
I thought about taking a wilderness route. Actually sustaining myself without relying on packs of food sent to me in post boxes like thru-hikers get would require hunting and fishing licenses which would be an absurd headache.
>we need to humiliate you and expose you to x-rays in airports
>why? because uh, scawy people want to smuggle bombs on airplanes oh noo!
Terrorism is fake. They're all FBI or CIA agents, nothing in the news is real.
>we need to limit your hunting and fishing
>why? because uh, trophy hunters! remember the buffalo? almost went extinct!
Fake news. 99.999% of humans are good, decent, and aren't greedy. In fact, the trillionaire elite bankers the federal govt serve are the ones destroying our natural resources.
Go leave
schizo moron. good job not getting a drivers license. you really showed society there ya fricking doofus
Nurse, can we get this guy his medications please?
So exactly what I thought, you're a LARPing mentally ill spastic.
Literally nothing prevents you from flying but your own insistence on somehow getting one over on the government by not getting ID.
Enjoy your self-imposed travel restrictions you fricking moron.
unbelievably based, but it's not illegal to ride a bike cross country (or walk, I assume, I just haven't tried it). you may need to pay for camping or a room if your route has you ending the day without public land nearby, but I don't think lysander there was a big public lands guy anyway. or just be sneaky about it.
>I'm not allowed to fly
Why?
He's LARPing and autistic.
>and Amtrak requires ID now
And?
I went from the midwest to both coasts after graduating from uni. I said never again and stuck to that promise. It might be okay if you get lucky and have no one sit next to you for most of your legs. But don't count on it. Why not drive?
>voluntarily taking a greyhound
>ever
Anon, greyhound is for people who were put on the no fly list, and there's a reason they were put on that list. There's almost never a reason to take a greyhound anymore, especially with how cheap flying has become. Shitlines like Spirit and Frontier can fly my ass to vegas and back for $60. Literally cheaper than driving myself there and multiple times faster. Learn to behave in a public setting and maybe the TSA will take you off the no-fly list sometime.
I wanted to take a Greyhound exactly once (Chicago to Toronto) and it was such an unfathomable nightmare of cancellations and delays. Being a zoomer can suck sometimes, something as seemingly regular as riding the bus has become some kind of bureaucratized hellish nightmare
what did you expect from international travel in the modern age?
