Same. I have zero interest in participating in the pyramid scheme of real estate, where a tiny patch of dirt suitable for homebuilding costs 10 years' earnings because of "le free market". Would rather leverage my boss' need for reliable summer help to score a kickass deal on rent, then spend the rest of my year outside America - or van camping in America, though that primitive shit has gotten old after years of vagabonding. Die with enough for funeral expenses, nothing more.
Finding a girl for her lonesome son is the mother's job, and it should start when both the boy and the girl are still children. Don't allow parents and their worthless "shoulding" transfer the blame to you for your developmental failures.

There are a lot of ways to be unhappy… do they express worry for your safety? There’s no getting around that. Parents worry about their kids. Just reassure and move on.
Or do they, as suggested above, complain about you spending money on travel? Unless it’s their money you’re spending, they don’t really have much right to complain about that. And even in that case, if you’re an otherwise independent adult and they’ve already given you the money, there’s still not much they can do about it. Not worth picking a fight over, in either case, but it’s another opportunity to reassure and move on. The only situation in which I could agree that they have a leg to stand on would be if they’re giving/lending you money for a specific purpose (tuition, rent, food, whatever) and you’re using it for something else and will need to come back for more money later to cover the essentials they thought they’d already paid for. That’s not too cool of you. You’re living beyond your means.
If they think that you’re wasting your life by traveling, or traveling to places or to do things they don’t approve of, that’s a broader philosophical conflict. But if it’s your money and you can afford to go, again, it’s your business and not theirs.
Would they be even more unhappy if you just didn’t tell them about your travel plans? Maybe consider that next time and see how it compares.

honestly sometimes parents aren't sure what to feel when their child wants to leave for abroad even for a short while. BUT it depends on the parents, they could just feel sad or maybe jealous but it all depends on circumstance
