The top 5 on on my bucket list are Dubrovnik, Ljubljana, Heidelberg, Porto and Seville
My favorite's so far have been Prague, Cesky Krumlov, Cassis, Verona, Rome and Zermatt.
>Porto
based
but just to add to , St Petersburg is much better than Moscow and Angra, while fantastic (along with the island of Terceira as a whole) i would say pales in comparison with Ponta Delgada and São Miguel as a whole, on the sole factor that it's bigger and has a bit more
but maybe you're been there already and know this and want something else, in which case i understand and think you're making the right decision
I wanted to pick some place where you can feel the war in the air still without actually going to the war. The rest of Europe is either too boringly lazy and peaceful, or too much in conflict. There are tons of other former Yugoslavian places where that vibe is there, but why I prefer Mostar because it's so extremely bipolar. The day mode and the night mode of the same town just doesn't differ so much within the same town elsewhere. It was like being in a different country even, when they switched from day mode to night mode. Also you can have okay French or Spanish or English or German food all over the world basically, but Bosnian and former Yugoslavian cuisines are some of those that you just don't get elsewhere in the world. It's Mediterranean enough for the vegetable quality to be so good that it just can't be replicated outside of the Mediterranean. The mosques next to churches thing is also not exclusively Bosnian, but it's still interesting to see people of multiple faiths getting shitfaced together.
It's in the middle of fricking nowhere, yet it gets hordes of tourists during daytime... it's not a coincidence.
I 100% recommend actually sleeping there. That's when the dodgy Balkan vibes really come out.
Also I think you can't be done with Europe without having visited the Balkans and Scandinavia (above Skåne), you have to see both extremes.
So I don't have any 1 big argument, it's just many small ones.
Also if you were to be crazy enough to actually visit the 5 places I mentioned, you would inevitably have to pass through the typical tourist cities anyway. There's no direct flight to Mostar, Innsbruck, Trondheim from outside of Europe. Or not many anyway. So cheating there, kind of. Someone from another continent would have to pass through some obligatory tourist city like Paris or Vienna while visiting all these.
Aside from the bridge and the hill with the big cross there isn't much to see. No urban planning, terrible public transport and horrific sights of poverty stricken muslims lying on the sides of the roads in the centre begging for money. Fun fact: the Neretva river flowing through Mostar is the coldest river in the world.
Swap Athens for London, if Bongistan is considered Europe.
>London
Lol. Lmao even. Please go to somewhere decent like York if you visit the UK. Just be prepared for the Chinese tourists. Lake District is nice too, and Cornwall.
