I'm going to be in Nashville for a long weekend and was thinking of doing a roadtrip from there to the coast. Does this sound like something enjoyable or should I just skip it:
>Nashville, TN
>Knoxville, TN
>Asheville, NC
>Charlotte, NC
>Wilmington, NC
I'm from the northeast and scoping out potential living situations too
How long do you have? There are some comfy towns directly south of Nashville (Franklin, Spring Hill, Columbia). Knoxville has a nice downtown but is mostly a college town. Gatlinburg / Pigeon Forge is pure country tourist slop but the Smokies are amazing and the Mount LeConte hike is one of the more interesting ones I've done in the US since there is a base camp at the peak. I've done the drive to Asheville and it was awesome as long as you don't get freaked out by windy mountain roads. It's a fun town albeit a little more hippy with their drum circles and gong baths. Charlotte I found unremarkable and Wilmington is basically a military base.
I was thinking maybe a week and just to find the most interesting stretch of places to hit on my way to the coast. Thanks for the recs
Yeah I was thinking of breaking this up over a week or so to minimize driving. 2-3 hrs a puddle jump
I'll be in nashville for labor day and then I was thinking of putzing around this area week after
I live in Wilmington and no it is NOT a military base, but it's also not good at all. The traffic is God awful with many roads closed, the Beach is overpriced and lacks lifeguards and restrooms, and downtown is kinda basic compared to other towns and cities
>Nashville
I would avoid because it's crime rate has went up in recent years and the whole area is plagued with beggars. So bad you can barely move up and down the street without being accosted. And even if you could, theres nothing there but country music shit, so why would you wanna see that?
Instead go to Murfreesboro which is just south of Nashville...and basically part of the greater Nashville area. It's a bit smaller and not as much to do, but pretty neat and a lot more safe. Check out the battlefield there, that was kinda neat.
>Knoxville
It's smaller than a lot of cities but I've been numerous times. Pretty neat place. Tons of cool places to eat. West Town Mall and Turkey Creek are pretty nice if you like to shop
>go to Murfreesboro
Hey fuck off, we're full.
I only visited for one day
NC fag here. Charlotte is soulless, don't bother! Yes on Asheville (outdoor activities), meh on Wilmington.
stop by the Buccee's gas station in Crossville, TN, if you've never been to one.
Are you going over the weekend of the 24th?
Watch you time, that's a LONG drive. Especially if you are going to hit any construction or accidnet delays. Which you will.
Mind time zones change, too.
Nashfag here, if you've heard someone say it's like a diet Vegas, they are not wrong. There's a few museums about Country Music if you're interested in that, but other than that, the downtown area is just kinda boring (to me) as it's just a bunch of honky tonk bars and a slew of drunks and bachelorette parties.
Why would you go to Wilmington? There's nothing there
I heard it was a solid beach town / right leaning town so I wanted to see what the hype was. If there's nothing I could keep moving. Looking for a solid beach town to chill out for a few days. I've done Myrtle in college, could try that again
>Myrtle Beach
>Wilmington
Jesus christ man are you completely incapable of searching for a beach that isn't mainstream trash?
Wilmington is so not right leaning. This is coming from a resident of 20 years. The beach is clean, but parking is more expensive than beaches in SC and New York even, despite having barely any life guards and having only two locations with bathrooms
Correct!
Asheville has become a liberal shithole. Dyke city. They took down founders statue and replaced with rainbows and nagger worship. Overpriced and overcrowded.
Just drive on the blue ridge pkwy its the only thing worth seeing.
Not OP, but I was planning to take a small trip through North Carolina this summer as well and would love to hear some feedback.
I planned on going to Cary (right outside Raleigh) , Wilmington, and Concord (right outside Charlotte)
I highly suggest Topsail or the Outer Banks if you want to go to the beach. Wilmington really is not that good.
>Charlotte
Skip this one, maybe just stay in the mtns and go to Greenville, maybe Athens, GA, but literally NOBODY goes to Charlotte for tourism, either that or go to the Outer Banks or some shit
Just popping in to echo all the people saying to skip Charlotte
Fuck me there's no city in America I hated more that Charlotte
What a bunch of soulless trash
Duly noted. I will 100% skip Charlotte
For NC, Asheville's really obnoxiously left-leaning but has some bars and places walk around. The Biltmore is worth going to with friends to drink wine and see top-tier architecture. A bit pricey but worth one trip there. If you're looking for outdoorsy activities off the Blue Ridge Parkway, Boone/Blowing Rock is the better choice. Pic is Grandfather Mountain ~30 minutes away from there.
Charlotte has Carowinds close by and that's it. Soulless business city. You won't miss anything.
Wilmington is alright but overrated and overpriced. The Outer Banks takes longer to get to but beats it easily. If you're going for a relaxing and affordable beach experience, head to Topsail/Surf City.
