Every guy I ever knew who retired early got bored in a year or two and wanted something to do, either business or family wise. You factor that into your plans.

Is there a reason you listed those countries or are they just the first meme retirement countries you heard of?

If you actually have enough money to retire most country will have an investment, digital nomad, or self sufficient visa of some kind, no need to go off a meme marketing list. Some of these can lead to permanent residency and citizenship, others are just good for a few years. I would travel for a few years while researching the visa laws in different places to see what works for you. Don't forget about the countries tax laws too, if you're going to be somewhere more than 6 months a year they'll usually consider you a tax resident, and if you're from the US you usually end up paying whichever country has the higher taxes.

Indonesia is only 55 years old and you need a yearly income of 18K/USD. Doesn't have to be a pension either - 55 year old remote workers get it too, they just fib about not needing to work.

Mexico will give you 180 days at a time. If you can enjoy 180 days in Mexico, then you can look into their permanent residency options. Oldgay gringos who refuse to speak Spanish tend to cluster in the gringo containment zones. Being a lone gringo with moderate Spanish ability living in Mexican society is very doable and quite safe in my experience, but you will be socially isolated.

Belize Black folk speak some sort of English creole, but prices tend to be very high for foreigners, and crime has been on an upward trend lately.

Isn't that the point? To live like an emperor with your usd savings?

In the past, hyperinflation crises in Argentina have resulted in serious insecurity. It would be unwise to invest heavily in spending your life in a failing state with increasingly desperate population. Visiting the country is an entirely different matter.

Is Brazil a good country to retire as an American?

If you're young and/or single, and have enough money, then sure. I would get citizenship in Portugal first though, then Brazil will give you citizenship after 1 year, and you would be allowed to live anywhere in Europe or Latin America because of EU and Mercosur.

          Would you move to Zimbabwe?

Poortugal d7 visa is far and away the best. EU citizenship opens a lot of doors.

I'm close to early retiring but all my wealth is in crypto. I'm scared of declaring it to some third world bureaucrat for a visa and then being kidnapped and tortured in the middle of the night.
Don't know how to get around this, everywhere expects you to declare your wealth.
