Chelsea International Hostel is fairly cheap. But they require a passport so you will likely be screwed if you are an American visiting NYC.
I think there are capsule type hotels in Manny-hatty now. Those should be cheap. I haven't fucked with them. But I live in Northern NJ so I will eventually look into it. I went to a Gwar concert at Irving Plaza recently and I figured because it was supposed to start at 7 pm I would be home at a reasonable time. I was wrong and I got home later than I liked. I might have preferred a capsule hotel and waking up early enough to get to work, rather than being zombified on the way home.

I am thinking of a cheap option if I want to do something in the city instead of coming home very late to suburban NJ. Maybe I can get a good sleep in the city thanks to a cheap capsule hotel, but wake up earlier than I would like to commute to work(where I can get more sleep on the NJ Transit train).
