I grew up in the southern United States and the people here are hideous with zero pride.

    >In your experience which countries have the best dressed citizens?
It’s sort of a stereotype, but in my experience the average Italian is usually better-dressed than most of his or her neighbors. You’ll still get your trashy denims and too-tight “designer” t-shirts, but you’ll also see a lot more relatively classy outfits chosen with care than the European average, which is in itself a bit better than the American average. It’s maybe most striking on old people—lots of grandpas in sharp suits in Italy.

Also stereotypical, but rich women in Paris usually turn themselves out well; the rest of the country is a mixed bag.

    >Which US states
I don’t think it’s possible to generalize at a state level. I think all sorts of socioeconomic-class and locality-specific factors come into play. The best-dressed people in New York City are equal to the best dressed anywhere in the world, but they’re still outnumbered by people in sweatpants on the subway. 99% of people in California are sporty-casual at best, but hot, shallow, rich people near beaches often put extra effort in. Same with Florida—a small sliver of people go out of of their way to show off with their clothing in some places, and most people are weird trashy-looking fat lumps of driftwood.

I don’t think there’s an exact correlation between style and wealth, by any means—on the West Coast especially, some of the very richest people seem to be some of the most anti-fashion, just wearing subtly expensive versions of casualwear. But people in poorer states certainly don’t usually look as good as people in richer ones.

This is my observation too. Korean youths will quickly hop on whatever the latest trend is, and just as quickly hop to the next. Meanwhile Japanese have a more personal style. Go to Harajuku and it's obvious. Go to Hongdae in Seoul and you will see the same guy copypasted 1,000x.

Had the South won the war, do you think it would be more fashionable today or is it a general American thing to dress like shit?

Probably the same. The heat and humidity make wearing anything formal extremely uncomfortable. It's hard to class up shorts and sports wear.

      >I grew up in the southern United States and the people here are hideous with zero pride.
My experience in the south is that there's a stark contrast between the rednecks and the white breads. Upper and upper-middle class southerners, (southern women in particular) tend to be much better dressed and styled than their class-equivalent in the Northeast. But for the median or working class you'll see far fewer slobs in Boston than rural Georgia.
      >is it a general American thing to dress like shit?
Only since the boomer cultural collapse.

The American working class dress like slobs regardless of region. In the US the quality of dress is 100% a class thing.

I would disagree for Northeastern cities, Boston and NYC at least.

Those people are called Puerto Ricans and Arabs. The ones you see at Costco load up their carts on welfare pay day. Welcome to New York, where every mutherfricker gets their shit for free except the ones who actually work.

This is accurate. There’s a lot of southern women who won’t leave the house without makeup, nice clothes, and israeliteelry. But if you go to any dollar general in the country you’ll see plenty of slobs.

Europeans tend to dress nicer because they don't own a car/house so clothing is their flex.

There is only one demographic whose fashion sense I notice...15-25 females. New England in summer 2022, I was quite impressed by the fashions that the young girls wore. California girls with their generic fitness attire don't measure up, though their racial admixture tends to give them an edge in the looks department. Colombian chicks were also well-dressed, but a little too busty for my tastes. The poorer Colombian chicks are still hot enough.

Koreans dress well. For me the worst dresses are Mexicans due to them being poor and blue collar jobs being so common. Americans dress really bad for a rich country

In North America, maybe Montreal. Depends what you mean by best dressed. Manhattan is expensive but corporate. LA is more streetwear / IGcore. Everywhere else in the US is just Urban Outfitters.

This is true. The SEC students show up to their football games dressed classy and preppy. I went to an Upper Midwestern University, and the drunk slovenly students show up in sweatpants and T-shirts 45 minutes late. The middle class of the American South dress better than the middle class of the Midwest. The Midwest has less economic inequality than the South too, maybe not coincidentally

Northern Italy is the best dressed.
In America the best dressed are Florida and California coast. They can wear nice clothes because they have more money and are slimmer the the rest of the country.

Americans dress like shit in general, even in NYC the number of people that wear sweatpants, anti-fashion, flip flops, etc is staggering. I went to Montreal and was shocked at how well dressed people were at the Carrefour mall, the equivilant in nyc area you would see soccer moms dressed in messy bun and cardigans. Americans are fashion mogged everywhere they go, disgusting mutts

I was really impressed with how good everyone looked in spain. I'm not talking about people dressed like runway models, just the average person wearing decent clothes, especially the women. I also like the dignified way people carry themselves in Spain. The constrast is so stark coming back to America.
