Is California really a shithole or is it unfairly denigrated by miserable people in flyover states who cannot afford to live there and are jealous of their cultural dominance?

why do they take most of the west coast?
both, but also east coast is like westcoast but mostly not as much as a shithole.
Calis always blame flyovers because they know they cant compare to the actual good coast. So they prefer to project on the boonies between as an easier target.
both
there's a great reason for why the rich and wealthy live in california, it's by far one of the most beautiful states in the nation, and it's a place where the rich and wealthy congregate.
there are also parts of california (oakland, huge parts of LA) that suck ass and aren't good places to live
>Calexico
>Mexicali
meme border
90% of what you hear about California applies specifically to LA and the Bay area, two parts of the coast that make up like 2% of the state as a whole. the further you go inland the more normal people are, and the further north you go above sacramento the more conservative and isolated places are. It's still expensive as shit though and there's homeless encampments in every major city, but its not nearly as bad as the fentanyl/shantytowns of San francisco and oakland
>the further you go inland the more normal people are
the absolute worst and most fricked up places in california are inland, what the hell are you talking about
t. literal moron. Stop moving out here if you hate us so much
>hurr di durr they're awful places but they share my political opinion
you are so adorably stupid, sven. You actually think the boonies are liberal
dude what are you even thinking. I don't understand what you are trying to say. the swede is right, I don't want to be rude but your opinion is indefensible
San Bernadino (inland empire) is considered the most dangerous city in California by most metrics. it's straight shithole.
cities like Fresno and Bakersfield are somehow even WORSE. all the gangsters and cholos that were priced out of LA and the bay area in the 90s moved to those places and they SUCK.
So, without insulting me or being rude, what are you even on about? The only nice parts of california are by the coasts. the only parts worth living in, aside from lake tahoe basically, are by the coasts.
most of your list is by the coast, dumbass
>he thinks the only inland parts of California are the IE
lol
I asked you nicely not to be rude to me. is there a reason you had to insult me in your post?
>every place inland is shit, why would anyone not live on the coast?
>BRO WHY ARE YOU SO MEAN?
when I say inland I am mostly referring to central valley cities like Fresno, Bakersfield, and Stockon
can we agree these places suck or does this make you mad also
the average resident of fresno in 2023 looks like this. they've been to prison for drug possession. they speak spanish at home. there are no normal americans in the central valley
nobody willingly lives in the central valley. Im talking about east and NE of sac
I've never met someone who lived in this area. I've lived in california my entire life
that being said the location does seem good. close to a major city, close to the national parks, etc.
reddit seems to not like this place much
frick off we're full
I would never voluntarily choose to live in your shithole anon.
Reno seems like a better destination than NE Sacramento all other things considered
you save on taxes - NV has the among the lowest tax burdens in the USA, and it's not like you are benefiting from the Californian business/tech scene living where you do.
Reno is closer to the natural parks that make life in NE Sacramento a nice place to be. It's less than 30 minutes from Reno to be deep into the mountains. Not to mention Reno is closer to SLC and Moab and related natural destinations
I feel like if you are paying to live in california there needs to be a strong reason for it. People making 400k working in tech in SF can easily justify paying for the higher COL. People who live in LA and benefit from the entertainment industry and cultural scene can easily justify this. I just don't see why people in NE sacramento would benefit over life in reno
reno is a degenerate shithole. I drove there with friends for a bachelor party and its nothing but casinos, strip clubs and barren wasteland in every direction. there's STILL homeless people out on the sidewalk, and tourists coming over the pass for a weekend
>nothing but casinos, strip clubs and barren wasteland in every direction
sounds like fallout 2
>the further you go inland the more normal people are
are there any jobs outside picking strawberries with mexican illegals though?
thats only in the central valley and delta
once you get really rural like the foothills, no. Its all mcjobs, grocery stores, or retail. Up in the mountains youre even more fricked because you have to do it for all the coasties coming up to the lake for winter/summer
I just associate conservatives with white trash. That's because all "conservative" small towns in BC are full of tweaked meth heads with their skin melting off. I could be wrong about small towns in general North America.
there are rich and poor people in both political parties in the USA
plenty of rich conservatives in orange country area. they'll never win a state-wide election but they exist.
Right. Well as I was saying my experience is limited. I'll drop by OC if I ever decide to visit California again.
oc is a concrete jungle go to malibu
you think just because conservatives are there it's a nice place to visit lol?
The other posters are right, go to Malibu, Santa Monica. Don't go to the bay area there's nothing for tourists to see there. Go to yosemite and explore the giant fricking forest and mountain area in eastern california
California is actually a shithole. Beautiful land, but the people are the worst in the world.
San Fransisco won't make purchases or sign contracts with businesses in 30+ states for "defying the values of the city"
If you have the money it's not a shithole
If you don't it is.
Just crossing the border between Nevada and California and i instantly notice everything costs way more
Besides cost of living California gets flak for generally being a shallow place with a lot of superficial people. But that may just be a stereotype idk
>But that may just be a stereotype idk
It is true in LA and bay area but the 4 chins get their info about the entirety of california from those two locations.
I’m from NY which is also a shithole run by lunatics but unlike Californians I’m aware of it.
California is only good if youre rich. If youre poor and stuck there, god help you
Certain parts. No place is entirely shitty though. There's a lot of nice areas and not everyone is on the same page politically. It's a big state. It has positives.
t. i think the west coast is gay
Unironically, thanks a lot friend.
Sometimes it helps to see things in perspective. I often forget that the US are huge..
California always seemed like a dream destination before the great muttening
california was half hispanic since its admittance to the union. anyone saying it was le western white utopia is delusional
It was like 85% white in the 80’s. White settlers outnumbered the pre-existing Mexican population within a few decades of annexing it.
Mexicans citizens where considered white for the longest time for legal reasons, specially when you get into mexican-american generation kids (still treated like shit obviously). It was only after the civil rights movement and the whole CHIcano movement that meixcans and mexican-americans started to be slowly be included in the census.
"mexican" was actually a race on the census until the mid 60s I think
It's literally just some parts of LA, and San Fran that people love to push for some culture war agenda bullshit.
99% of the people who repost pics of homeless camps and shit have never even been to the state.
average house in Reno looks like this
doesn't look too degenerate to me
Is Reno the place where the Godfather 2 was set?
it's a similar area. living near lake tahoe is of course far more expensive.
here's the house:
https://sf.curbed.com/2020/3/16/21181806/lake-tahoe-godfather-2-home-house-sale
sold for $5.5 million
it'd be cool if people stopped fricking moving there, but now that i've given up on living in my home town i dont really care what comes of california anymore
>it'd be cool if people stopped fricking moving there
you lost this battle literal decades ago grandpa
people have been leaving california for the last 5 years and you didn't get the memo apparently
>t. not from california
>Perfect climate
>Lots of high skilled and low skilled jobs
That's really all it takes anon. It's suffering from success time.
the main, literally ONLY issue with the state is the inability to build new homes, and the inability of the state to arrest criminals
if those two issues were solved california would be far better today than it was 40 years ago
>perfect climate
yah bro, I love these droughts, red flag warnings, and power shutoffs
Anywhere can be nice if you're rich enough to afford to live in a nice gated community with private security and not have to worry about the plebs and the homeless.
it's interesting how people who live in san francisco can be all killed tommorow with an earthquake but they don't think about it much
this doesn't actually happen in the west ivan
I know it's crazy to think about but our buildings have to follow strigent construction codes in order to protect our people
i wouldn't know, i don't get any earthquakes where i live
Russia gets major earthquakes along the border with mongolia apparently
It's mostly Kamchatka actually.
they make good money for the powers that be, there's no reason to trigger a ~~*natural disaster*~~ just yet
California alongside Japan has probably the most beautiful nature and diversity in the world. i know it’s a big place, but wow it has alot of spots that shine
this.
but you are also forgetting that the weather in Japan is TERRIBLE. There isn't a single place in japan that has california tier weather year-round.
California and the PNW in general is basically the most blessed place on the planet, and it makes a lot of sense for the property values to be so high here
California and New York are among the richest states while having about 10x more homeless than every other state
excellent climate and nature
poor politics and education
best place for homeless
worst place for low income
ok for middle class
best place for high income
worst place for children
ok for young people
best place for middle aged
bad place to retire
answer is it depends
