Looking for somewhere to go in Latin America other than Mexico in February. Nothing against Mexico, just wanting something different. Looking for somewhere with good food, cheap, decent beaches, culture, and somewhere where getting mugged isn't inevitable. I can get by in Spanish minimally, though I should get back on Duolingo.
Belize. It's mexico without the cartels and corrupt cops trying to shake you down. Nice poeple. Perfect. Just that plane ticket costs a little more. That's all. Puerto Rico is cool too. It's latin expierence without ever leaving America. Costa Rica is awesome but more expensive than belize or puerto rico.

What are good beaches in Argentina?
Never been myself but every Argentinian I meet swears my Mar del Plata or Bariloche as if it's heaven on earth. Look expensive on a quick Google search tho.
Argentina is not near as safe as you claim. And of course, the current situation doesn't help.

It's not as safe as anon claims, but the problem I would say is Buenos Aires surroundings (which are not touristic at all), the city itself, specially if you move in tourist places, should be fine. Do be conscious of your belongings and as anon said don't act overly dumb at night in isolated places. The rest of the country should be safe, you just have to be cautious on big cities at night (which, btw is my main recommendation, don't fall for the tourist trap that is Buenos Aires, go to the south or north to see nature). OP here. I kept it my initial post vague because I wanted to get everyone's own personal opinions, without getting the knee-jerk "its shit" answers. I have been to San Juan PR, and Colombia. I hated Cartagena but I've thought about doing Bogota as a stopover to somewhere else.
I was thinking myself Nicaragua or Ecuador. Peru, I think has some civil unrest going on now, El Salvador's tempting. Im not a Bukele fanboy but I'm in crypto. Place seems to have chilled out a lot.
I wasn't even thinking about Argentina/Chile. All I can think of for food there is steaks for Argentina and sea bass for Chile. Not that that isn't good.

They are meh for beaches but in terms of nature and culture the whole Atacama region and southern Argentina (calafate/chalten) is the best the continent has to offer for SighSee tourism.
Additionally, unless your country is also collapsing the argentine peso is really cheap right now.

Mexico is objectively much richer in culture, history, archaeology, architecture, gastronomy and anything else than the entire Southern Cone
