Looking for input from people who moved to East/South East Asia (China, Japan, Vietnam, not picky) on how to make a viable plan to work and live abroad. Is teaching English still a reliable route to find work and be able to support yourself? Any other routes to explore, any pitfalls? Am I being moronic?
For background I'm graduating with a CS degree from a U.S. college this December, am a U.S. citizen, and have about $5000 in savings. I've traveled abroad on my own and with friends several times but I figure that's not very comparable experience. Motivations include desire for adventure due to quarter life crisis, need to escape living with my parents, and dread at the prospect of working a soul-sucking office job in a rustbelt state like so many of my unhappy friends who graduated before me.
>5k savings
RIP bozo
Have a job lined up over there before you go. You cannot "just find something".
If you're white and breathing you can just find something dumb nig
Theyre often borderline moronic but at least mostly not murderous maniacs
Good luck trying to make it work out there
I earn $2800 a month remotely and currently living my best life in Thailand. I work 3 hours a day tops.
And no, i wont share with you how i got this job because i dont want this industry saturated by morons because this job is so easy a moron could do it.
This thread has 15 posters and 13 of them only think of Japan when Asia is mentioned.
You have nothing to fear in terms of competition in your ""Land of Smiles"".
Don't be a scrooge.
5K is ok but I would say that limits you to Vietnam. Go there for three months on the regular visa -- you have more than enough for that. If you like it, re-enter the country and find a place to teach English. There's like a million Latinos and Russians teaching English; make it clear your teaching skills come at a premium.
Join one of those expat da Nang (just an example) groups on Facebook and write in the group that you're interested in getting a lease and a number of agents will message you.
It's all much easier than you think.
Why does every white loser immediately want to flee to SEA?
Oh wait, I know. It’s because they’re a fricking dork homosexual loser that got zero pussy so they’re desperate to flee the country at the tender age of whatever
Frickint dorkus
cope and seethe
I want to move to SEA because the weather, culture and society are much better than any western shithole.
lol not the moronic nig but that's just stupid.
>weather
kek
>CULTURE
even more funny
The right answer is because it's cheap and a party but you've probably never been.
Nah it’s because they want their little pecker touched by a reluctant and grumpy low class poor SEA woman for the first time in their little dork life.
In college they “studied hard” and the only thing they facefricked was their C+ textbook in the dorms for a grinding leetcode session. It’s ONLY about the path of least resistance to get their little pecker touched
Of course, the money i make each month is the money they earn a whole year of grinding. Much like how you dont describe restaurant patrons as "bad at cooking", you won't describe us coomers with SEA women. You see, its a free market, there are willing sellers and willing buyers and both parties complete the transaction having satisfied their end of the bargain.
homosexuals like you try to get in the way of this, you're no better than a communist, a sad little thief that deserves to seethe and cope forever against us. I say it's good, your suffering embellishes me to continue my lifestyle.
You used the word “embellish” wrong you frickin dorker. Perhaps you meant to say “emboldens” as in it strengthens your resolve to live this life style?
See, if it embellished you, it would mean your lifestyle is FRAUDULENT and therefore needs embellishment, a “dressing up,” if you will, of some highflying techno city dorker up to his balls in hot Asian pussy.
However, we know the truth. A meek little dorker isn’t a move maker. He’s not a “man around town,” ya see. He’s a huncher, a mouse, peering over his rimmed glasses incredulously at the atavistic churning of the world beyond his MacBook
Chew on that you frick dweeb
What a sad sad little pinko, and you're right, I do hunch over my laptop but I only do so a few hours a day, the rest of the day I'm free to pursue whatever self improvement or hedonistic bliss I embellesh to pursue that day.
Haters like you can do nothing but seethe and cope that theres a whole world out there of smart connected people pitching jobs to one another and writing each others references. Living lives free in SE Asia, we're practically billionaires here if you compare us to the average local salary earner.
I haven't visited SighSee since november last year. you're still wasting your life about high IQ lonely men moving to SEA and pricing you out? lel
He's mad because he peaked in high school.
Go look up those Kensington videos and ask me again only after watching for an entire hour
Just like you
I'm doing the slumdog route. Saving up 100k, putting it into 4% savings accounts and living off of 4k a year
OP here, appreciate the input. I should add that I don’t plan to show up in a country with nothing planned and try to make it work, I’m more so looking for advice on setting things up (at least employment) ahead of time. Also teaching would probably be fine but would also like advice on any ways to use my CS degree to my advantage. Would I get a significant leg up by working a U.S. tech job (likely not at a big-name company) for ~2 years beforehand? While I’d rather just go for it, if doing this would open up working and living at a higher standard in more expensive countries and/or earning American dollars through remote work then the tradeoff would probably be worth it.
I've never been to Asia but from everything I've heard if you're white and... That's basically it -- any job you find is going to pay you 3x more than your Asian co-workers.
In Vietnam you'd probably make $1.2k a month while others are $400 a month, from stats I found online.
