I went there expecting a rich banker paradise but it's a very average western European city full of brown people. I think the casemates were the only vaguely interesting thing about the city, otherwise just go to Vianden. All the buses and trains are free
Luxembourg City is seen in a day, avoid the train station quarters and just enjoy the fortifications, upper town and lower town. If for some reason you want to have a longer trip, visit the likes of Vianden, Clervaux, Echternach for some hikes and that's it. There is some mining stuff in the south including forests where the ground is kind of red because of iron content but you have to go through crapholes towns to get to them
Not much. Luxembourg (the city) is less interesting than the neighboring major cities of its neighbors like Trier or Metz. I guess the food selection is great for such a small city. The castle is mildly interesting. You should be done in a few hours.
The fortifications are nice. If you are into it you can easily spend 2 days exploring that
I'm surprised no one has mentioned the best thing: all public transport is free. And the don't mean just urban stuff, even long haul buses can't charge you a dime if you board and leave within Luxembourg. The country is small but not that small sou you can have a hoot exploring every single town if you like. Everything else about the place is bloody expensive though

All around Berdorf is some nice hiking and climbing. Eifel area, in general, is nice.
If you like history, Luxembourg American cemetery with General Patton's grave is outside of town.
It's actually really nice to walk around the fortifications and the old part of the city. Great way to spend a few hours on a stopover
