Mama Mia?

Mama Mia SighSee!

Does anyone have experience getting a language learning visa to live in Italy for a year? Can you recommend any schools? Will be remote working for income from USA.

Also what are the women like (dating advice)? Asking for a friend.

most date through extended social circle - friend of friend.
italians have strong friend groups from childhood often doing all of grade school in the same class.
everywhere has some turbo roasts tho, or people moved to the big city and are lonely.
university educated women that are still enamored with life outside of italy will be open to dating english speakers
if you get into a language course you may have access to erasmus nightlife - erasmus studies were european exchange programs in university, but the nightlife events attract all young internationals even if they are working

Actual italian here to point out most people in this thread are full of shit

      This however is correct

The "best italian accent" right now is probably Milano because it's basically a melting pot and milanese accent got diluted so much it's barely noticeable (unless someone is trying to comedically impersonate the stereotypical milanese person), but there is no "cleanest" italian accent, anyone from italy can tell pretty much exactly where other italian people are from just by the accents because they're so diverse and specific

Most people speak in a mixture of "proper" italian with a more or less noticeable influence from their native accent/dialect

If you want to learn to speak "proper" italian, watch a lot of tv and talk like news anchormen talk (you might still sound funny to people even if you get it perfectly because not having an accent at all is probably even weirder than having an accent)

You definitely DO NOT want to learn italian by talking like people from florence do because they sound ridiculous (they pronounce certain letters differently, have ultra-specific lexicon for certain words, etc)

Well the dude asked for the equivalent of a Parisian accent to Italian, that's the only dialect you can consider a "source", obviously with italian no dialect can be the "real" language

The most important universities for foreigners are in Perugia, Florence, and I think Rome.
I don't know shit about them but I wouldn't recommend living in Florence since much of it is fundamentally a big expensive tourist park. I've visited Perugia and it's a pretty comfy hilltop town but not yet dead in terms of social life and cultural events, Rome has a lot of upsides and a lot of downsides but it's definitely a nice city to live in if you're not old.

Bologna is also a pretty big student city, and not as expensive as Firenze I believe.
Modena is also cool but more old school.

Is the a better place to go accent-wise? Like parisian accent for french, hochdeutsch for german or RP/standard southern english accent for english?
Which place has the cleanest/best accent?

Milan lost any semblance of an accent, I'd say it's the closest to "generic italian"
Florence is where most of the italian language originated from, it's the closest to a "classical, old" accent

For a year? You'll be so fluent you could translate the bible
I did an intensive (40 hr per week) course in Verona and got to B1 in two months, it wasn't attached to a uni so not sure if that counts for visa but I'd recommend them even if you're doing non-intensive, called Inclasse. Also Verona and the neighboring area (notably Mantova) has to be the most beautiful places I have ever been, hands down.

For women, as mentioned before, just meet them via your school since Italian social circles are basically immutable. Also Italians are very trad, it's a very good place if you want virgin spaghetti waifu.
