Pretty sure it only looks interesting on a map, if you get there it would be undistinguished from the rural areas on either side of it. There was a novelty restaurant but I think it was abandoned.
North East Azerbaijan is more interesting, the oilfields are a photo op you can just drive to from baku.
The region is so small that there's probably no good reason to try and travel straight through rural/ border areas.
Spent about a week there. Super friendly people, so glad you came. Stepanakert is ok for weird soviet vibes but Shushi is beautiful rural place with nice hiking. Nice and cheap and weird place. Bullet hole ridden mosques, burnt out tanks and the odd skeleton to be found amongst beautiful countryside.

Didn't they lose Shushi in the latest peace treaty/armistice?
Yes, and Agdam. The two most interesting places they had
Nah, not really. And if you get there you'll be banned from getting into Azerbaijan forever.
And they WILL know if you've been there, even if you rip out the visa-paper from your passport.
I have two passports
doesn't matter, they will know
How?
no idea but I know of at least one person who was pulled out of a hostel in Baku for tea with FIS after lying about being in NK. They fucking know.
And nothing of value was lost...
are the areas that Azerbaijan conquered in 2020 open for tourism?
