Need to get home.

I am stuck in Portland Oregon, unfortunately my home state is iowa. I have been stuck for months now. I have no money, cannot use grayhound, airlines, or amtrack. Can anyone drop an idea, that or help me come to a course of action? I need to get home, I don’t want to die here. Used ahegao so this would catch attention.

How are you surviving right now? You could walk to Boise in about a week. Save up a week's worth of food and begin walking. Once outside the cities you can probably hold up a hitchhiking sign and cut your journey in half.
Better yet, get a bicycle and get there in half the time or less.
You should have done this months ago, and if you're going to do it, then do it now before it gets too cold.

This is the dumbest larp thread. You seriously can’t even beg for enough money to buy a greyhound ticket? You don’t have a single family member that would buy you one out of pity? Please. Sign up for a credit card and buy on that if you’re completely retarded and a not actually larping.

I have no family, I am a drug addict. Not larping, I am going to die because of bad choices. Although I like the hitchhiking idea. I am trying to keep my normal life separate from a venture that has gone horribly wrong. Cannot use ID for travel due to personal reasons. Sooo hitchhiking?

Get home, go cold turkey (straight edge if you can't separate alcohol from drugs). Get a passport. Fly to Africa or Southeast Asia. Join a charity, outreach program, or missionary work. You'll be happier and healthier, and if/when you die, you will be remembered as a good person instead of an embarrassing asshole who fucked over friends and family to chase a high.

        >”Need” to get home
        >I have no money, cannot use grayhound, airlines, or amtrack.

        >Cannot use ID for travel due to personal reasons.
You’re creating an artificial barrier for yourself here. If your desire to not use ID for unspecified personal reasons (is there a warrant for your arrest?) is stronger than your professed need to get back to Iowa, maybe you don’t need to get back as badly as you say/think you do. Perhaps you ought to just GTFO Portland; that town has been a bad environment for junkies for as long as I can remember, and I am old.

Anyway, looks like you have already received some good advice about your hoboing/homeless-style options, but the internet tells me that although it is theoretically mandatory to show ID to ride Greyhound buses, in practice you frequently don’t have to as long as you don’t have to pick up your ticket from a human—you can use a self-service kiosk or buy the ticket online/over the phone.

There might also be local bus companies that can get you part of the way—I’ve used non-Greyhound local companies for transportation all over the Northeast, I assume there are similar outfits out in the Northwest.

As for money, if you can’t earn it, beg for it.

Literally hitchhike. I've done it but you need to look clean. Clean clothes and clean shaven. You also need a sign. My other advice is you go to a church, salvation army or unironically a Sikh temple (should be one somewhere) and explain your situation. Don't request much. Just money for a shaver and a ride. A lot of Sikhs work as truck drivers so they may be willing. For some reason most of the help I've gotten in life when I've been at my absolute lowest has been from Latinos, Asians and Indians. Anglos can be quite cold.

Second idea is train hopping. Ask the hobos about this and one of them will point you to someone or something in the right direction. Be aware that it can be quite dangerous especially if it's your first time and you can risk taking the wrong train that will send you somewhere completely different. Remember to always stock up on water bottles for your trip. Good luck anon.

Also look into dumpster diving if you need food. some supermarkets will throw out perfectly good food because it expired one day ago.

Lets say you make it to Iowa than what?
So you can freeze to death being homeless in Iowa winter?
Why not head south to l.a where weather is manageable being homeless and I think even pay you to be homeless now

Go to some ~~*non-profit*~~ poverty pimp outfit and tell them you came here from Iowa to be homeless. They often have some program where they pay for you return fare to get you out of their hair

Do you live anywehere? What is your living status

If you follow this map you would probably be able to get there. Will probably take you a week or two, if you're bumming around you may as well if you don't want to hitchhike. (hitchhiking recommended 9/10 times)

Just keep in mind that train riding is more like extreme camping and the conditions are pretty bad and you will be dirty and gritty from the ride. You can find food in dumpsters or steal it if you're poor enough to justify it.

You want to aim to ride from town to town, each line on the map represents a certain line which goes from end to end. The train will make periodic stops along the way and you can decide to get on or off. Some may stop in town overnight or disconnect the cars you are riding leaving you stranded. Try to get off only in larger towns with larger train yards. Avoid container yards if you can.
Once a train stops and you get off, think about which direction you want to go (east, west, north, south) and walk to that end of the yard and wait for a train to start heading in the direction you want to go. You might have to wait up to 24 hours for a train going the right way. You need to stay out of sight and not be seen getting on or off. Basically be covert the whole time. Also avoid hanging onto parts of the train, just get in and secure quickly because the train is constantly banging around with enough force to throw you off. (quite scary)

You need to keep your phone charged for maps, as well as have a backpack full of plenty of food and water. You will have to sleep outdoors under a bridge most nights. And don't under any circumstance get off the train in the middle of nowhere because the next train might not stop in the same spot.

    Good luck have fun
