Trees grow up there. Washington has some of the most beautiful temperate rainforests on Earth.
In my Washington and Oregon travels by private car, I never really spent time in cities or towns. Mountains, beaches, camping, smoking weed - that was about it. PNW nature kicks ass. I found Oregonians to be very frigid people, not given to even the smallest friendly gestures toward strangers.
The suburbs in the PNW are wonderful huwhite areas like 80-90 percent white and no spirit airlines Americans and not crazy expensive yet compared to California
OP, the issue is you posted two separate regions: Cascadia and the Inland Northwest. They are separated by the Cascade mountains, marked by the blue line in picrel
Cascadia >Oceanic climate similar to Western Europe (ie chilly and grey most of the year, but extremes are rare) >Very far left politically >Culinary specialty is seafood >Tech based economy >Fairly wealthy >Lots of H1-B immigrants from asia >Urbanized; vast majority of population lives in Seattle and Portland metros
Inland northwest >Continental climate similar to Eastern Europe (Very cold snowy winters, brief but hot summers) >Conservative >Resource/energy based economy >Doesn’t really have a culinary specialty >Generally rural middle-class population >Fewer immigrants than other regions of the country, although Mexican population is growing fast
Oh, and >No accents
As a general rule the Western states don’t really have an accent, outside of the rare twang in some rural inland areas
I am from Ontario and have always been interested in visiting Washington and Oregon states.
I am considering visiting in September. Since flights to Vancouver, Canada are cheap, I could just bus down to Seattle, then Portland, and back.
I really like walking, indie/shoegaze music, and coffee. Mount Olympia, the coastal karsts, and concerts are all bucket list tier for me.
3 questions. >How much time should I allow for this trip? >What else should I check out that I haven't mentioned? >Is homestay.com a good place to get accommodations for this region?
>How much time should I allow for this trip?
I’d give yourself at least 2 weeks
>What else should I check out that I haven't mentioned?
Mount Olympus is an uncommon choice for mountaineering. I’d do Rainier instead. Good itinerary would be Whistler, Vancouver, Victoria, Olympic Park, Seattle, Rainier, Portland, & Oregon Coast.
I haven't ever heard of Unwound. I found the video for this concert on youtube. It's awesome you got to see your favourite band! I'm more into Animal Ghosts, My Dead Girlfriend, Lemon's Chair, etc. shoegaze.
absolutely nothing. dont come. its terrible. youll hate it. stay away. go to new york or nashville or san francisco. the culture and diversity is amazing
bro stfu. Pussy ass mfkr. bro we out here in the temperate rainforest. I hate u pussy ass rain hatin bros. Shut yo bch ass up. Get unda a tree or kill yoself.
I'm visiting Portland from Europe for work next week, and I wanted to stay and explore afterwards.
What to visit and where to visit and how to visit?
I didn't research too much, but it seems USA is not very friendly to random travels with trains and buses like Europe is?
I want to visit Yellowstone and the Redwood trees, are there easy ways to do so? Or do I have to rent a car to go anywhere?
you’re joking, right?
I’m dead serious
Tossed salads and scrambled eggs
>No accent
Haven’t been to Warshington or BC have you Bud?
>No signature cuisine
I’d say the three staples are Dungeness Crab, Clam Chowder, smoked salmon
>No stereotypes
Most people think of us as communist gays or Skinhead compound dwellers. Both into punk
>No cultural output
Nirvana, Big Foot, Bill Nye, Amazon, Microsoft, Boeing, Costco
>Bill Nye, Amazon, Microsoft, Boeing, Costco
Lmaooo
I guess that explains it. All of the parts of American culture that need to be burned with fire come from the PNW.
Hey, don't yalk shit about costco
team Polish
>warshington
everybody here in missouri pronounecs it like this
What are you on about? I am from Washington and have never heard anyone here call it Warshington.
Grandma was a farm girl grown up around North Bend. She said “Warshington”.
Northwest style teriyaki is pretty unique, I think. The chicken, rice, and side salad combo is ubiquitous.
The only person I know around here who calls it Warshington is my 89 year old grandpa.
Why are there always so many braindead foreign posts on every single board? Holy shit.

Only western Oregon and Washington though. Idaho and Montana people post on Stormfront or shit like that.

Nothing happens here except riots and overdoses and we're FULL

Hilarious mutt understanding of culture.

there's nothing there and it's terrible, you should definitely stay away. tell your friends too.
>outside of the rare twang in some rural inland areas
"worshington"
The high COL is keeping most of the country away. The homeless situation in Seattle and Portland isn't helping either.
PNW has nice nature, 10/10 geography. Horrible people 0/10.
liberal white men
at least in seattle
Hipster gays and antifa

Cheers, thank you anon. I'll keep the thread updated should this trip pan out

You really shoulda come down to Olympia when Unwound was here.
Sometimes I still can't believe I crossed a bucket list item off by seeing them there.

Powell's is about the only thing worth visiting in Portland itself. You will need to rent a car to go anywhere.
Wasn't the first Rambo film also set in the PNW?
the nature is pretty amazing but other than that it's just homeless encampments and trannies
