Rome is rad. Great food, amazing buildings, awesome nightlife. It's safer at night than literally any US city. Don't talk to any Africans and don't get pickpocketed.
I had more fun just wandering the city than standing in insane lines. You can walk into pretty much any church besides the Sistine chapel and see priceless artwork for free. Rent bikes and ride through the Park of the Aqueducts and the park of the Appian Way.
I'd also definitely take the high speed train and spend a day in Florence.
This, don't even bother with the tourist attractions. Unless you're diehard into the Roman Empire you'll probably get quickly bored of it. I just spent 40 mins riding to Ostia Antica on a 125cc Rental Vespa, spent 2-3 hours there, and was honestly kinda bored and tired by the end of it. You can only spend so much time watching old ruins. Had more fun people watching at Lido de Ostia 10 mins away. I think what gets me is how attractive the average Italian is. The average Italian woman is still above average in the USA. And the attractive ones are damn near models. They nearly all have perfect hip to waist ratios and huge asses (or at least nicely shaped)
I took SP8 and it was honestly sketchy as frick, 60-75kmh the whole way with a half face helmet. Kept getting overtaken and I have a decent amount of moto experience in the USA.
Honestly wish I had a better knowledge of Italian, at least some of them knew Spanish or English.
Forgot pic

Personal experience?
So there's a type of scam in Italy that's apparently common with people who have vehicles (cars, scooters, etc.). A gypsy will come up to you and offer to "watch" your vehicle for a few Euros.
Obviously they're not actually going to provide any security for your vehicle. But declining their offer usually means they will vandalize it.
Is it worth paying them just to not have them frick with your car/scooter?
Paying protection money so they don't frick up your shit, "Italians" never change I stg.
Rome is fantastic.
I agree with what every anon here says but do make sure you check out some of the tourist attractions. The Vatican Museums, Capitoline Museum, Pantheon and the Roman Forum and Colosseum are fricking phenomenal. You're going in off-season too which is good. I went in January and pre-booking tickets let me stroll in literally everywhere. I didn't wait in a single line except for the Colosseum and Saint Peter's Basilica and they both move quickly.
Check out Michelangelo's Moses, The Mouth of Truth and some of the Caravaggio's and other famous paintings that are around the free churches.
I walked around the streets at night and never felt unsafe.
There's a website called "Atlas Obscura" which will show you where some cool places are that you probably wouldn't know about otherwise that I used a lot in Rome. The Purgatory Museum and Capuchin Crypt are highlights. Capuchin Crypt is much smaller but x10 more eerie than the Paris catacombs.
Have fun
thanks bro cant wait to see and learn about those places
I'm here now
Go to trapizzino. Good lunch spot
seconded
Look out for pickpockets.
And check out the Frigidarium.
It's a gelato place, about two clicks from Vatican City.
Go in the afternoon. The queue grows long sometimes, but the gelato is worth it.
Hell yeah was just in Rome. Frigidarium was awesome.
Thirded
In terms of touristy shit the Pantheon queue goes by pretty fast so there's no excuse not to see that. I booked an early morning tour of the Vatican museums which made it much easier. Seeing the Sistine Chapel alone is worth it, although even that was full by the time we walked through the museum. Church wise my favourite one was Basilica dei Santi XII Apostoli. Extremely empty and super close to Trevi fountain, but absolutely stunning. Also I second the anon who said take the high speed train for a day trip to Florence.
How is visiting Rome in late November? Bad weather? Too cold? Or is it okay?
I am going in the beginning of November so I'll let you know
It probably won't be very cold but there could be a lot of rain

He said it's for the view you homosexual
LMFAO, yeah I'm sure "he" appreciates "you" stepping in for "him"
Leave him alone, he's right
Pizza e Panini di Roma has great pizzas. Roman Forum > Colosseum for walking through.
This except also go into the Borghese gallery if you like sculpture.
There were so many places in Italy that had good scores on google maps that were completely flavorless garbage. Really the only thing you can do is get recommendations from others.
Fellas, I went on a date with a Roman girl last night. I can't speak a word of Italian. The waiter said to her in Italian that I "have a carbonara face" and then he chuckled when I ordered the carbonara. It tasted amazing. Just wondering what he meant by that
He means you look extremely gay, abnormally so
t. Italian
All it means is you look like a tourist. Also he definitely didn't like you dating a local girl. Good chance you were overcharged or given a smaller portion than usual.
to. Roman
Having a *something* face means "You look like someone who would enjoy *something*". You probably fumbled your words and the waiter guessed you wanted the carbonara. He was fricking with you, but with good intentions.
He said that you were likely a homosexual, and he wanted to permission to plow your bussy.
Italians are very friendly and love to share 🙂
Before going to any resturant check their score on google maps
t. person that got scammed at resturant
The Vatican is always worth a visit.
After going there I reccomens you go to bonci pizzarium, best pizza I have ever eaten.
>pizza
That looks like a german breakfast
get the tuna pizza
I visited Rome last year (t. Italian). The pantheon impressed me the most, especially from the outside. It looked like it was there for a thousand years before all the nearby houses were built and will still be there a thousand years after they crumble. It looked eternal. Also, to put it in meme words, it's the logical conclusion to roman/Greek worship: the ultimate temple; it being enormous and round unlike how they typically are and dedicated to all the gods at once. Two Italian kings of the 19th century are buried there, which, if you think about it, is quite interesting. Kings of the modern age who could afford mausoleums built with modern technology still chose to be buried in an ancient temple of an empire that's long gone.
By the way, did you know that the writing on the entrance, "built by Agrippa", is complete bullshit? It was built by Hadrian. The writing is a homage to the temple that used to stand there before, a type of false modesty. How bizarre. Showing off so hard, only to pretend to be modest. History can be quite amusing.
Needless to say, highly recommended
>By the way, did you know that the writing on the entrance, "built by Agrippa", is complete bullshit? It was built by Hadrian.
Yes the original temple was commissioned by Agrippa but burned down, then was rebuilt under Domition's rule, then burned down again until Hadrian commissioned the current building and then the Severens upkept it until the fall of Western Roman Empire and its conversion into a church.
Also, Marcus Agrippa was one of the greatest military and civic planning minds of his time. Honoring his accomplishments makes sense for someone like Hadrian, who was very much a learned general and a manager of the state.
Plan your itinerary out by the hour right now and make sure you have museum reservations. Rome fricking sucks in that regard.
Get as much gelato as possible too.
What are the best catacombs to enter? I'm a fricking moron and thought there was just one big maze of catacombs but apparently there's a bunch of them
