Planning a trip to Brazil. Want to check going to the festival in Rio off the list. I will be there solo though. Would it even be fun going solo while everyone is with friends and family? Would it be extra hard to get a Brazilian cutie to celebrate with at that time?

Can you speak portugues? You might be alright being there alone, but it's a pretty big learning curve in brazil not knowing any portugues. Even if you go to hostels it will mostly just be other brazillians. You will be fine if you can speak some portugues, if not it will be tough solo

It's probably pretty similar, Rio has good and bad areas like Tijuana and the good areas still have some crime to watch out for and you shouldn't really walk around the place at night or certain areas at all. Rio I think is much more crowded than TJ though.
Just avoid a certain group of people, and don't go to shady places particularly at night. The average Brazilian doesn't want anything to do with you.

Be aware that because of security issues some places don't allow guests so read the policies of wherever you stay. You'll be able to find a Brazilian girl one way or another
Also, if you're coming from the US you'll need a VISA and they haven't setup the application process yet. You should also apply for a Brazilian CPF number, it's like their social security number, but they're really up their ass about needing it for absolutely everything like getting a SIM card, using a credit card online, booking bus tickets online, etc.
You can't get a cpf online anymore. They stopped that in like October. Have to get one from the federal policia in person now
