Some travel pronouncements. Agree or disagree?

Jakarta is BKK 15 years ago.

Chiang Mai weather/air is worse than Delhi half the year an is crowded only because Western white men have given up on even a middle-class quality of life in the West.

Da Nang is a glorified Korean resort with shit weather half the year. Hoi An is for overweight cruise ship twats.

Istanbul is hilly Vegas for brown people.

Abu Dhabi is Dubai without Slav hookers.

Paris is just Dakar with expensive apartments.

Lombok is a boring, halal Bali.

There is nothing more depressing than flying from Japan to Korea. (Seoul is the ugliest city in Asia).

Taiwanese food is the most overrated in Asia.

Most people that praise Thai food eat the same five dishes over and over again. I'll let you guess which ones.

The Italy of your imagination no longer exists.

Tallinn is more beautiful than Helsinki.

Vilnius is the best of the three Baltic capitals.

There is no worse city in Africa than Marrakech (and I am including Cairo here).

Black Sea Turkey is incredibly underrated.

The steak in Buenos Aires is chewy cat meat and the cheese on the pizza is vile.

Don't say you have "visited" China unless you've spent the night in a few T3/T4 cities.

The definition of grim is Lodz, Poland on a grey January day.

Don't pretend you are going to the Philippines for the "culture" or the QoL: your hairline started receding in high school. Just be honest.

I can keep going...

yeah there's lots of rich looking white dorkers and hip cafes/bars/weedshops/restaurants in CM, but gentrification hasn't destroyed the city. it's a lot more fun than the untouristy parts of Thailand, that's for sure. higher English proficiency means CM is Thailand on easy mode. the airport is close to the city, I liked flying out of it. also, the AQI is nowhere near as bad as Delhi, which sees 300+ levels every winter. CM typically maxes out around 150.

I never heard of Taiwanese food being rated or talked about in the first place, so how can it be overrated. IMO it's all right. Prices not too high, but def not as cheap as SEA. Keelung has a kickass night market and tons of eateries, food stalls, bakeries, snack shops, etc. Challenging to order tho, with the menus in Chinese and little English spoken.

Taiwan is Asian normie conformie, yes...but it's not at all westernized or even visited much by western tourists. Nor do people here really care about attracting western tourists or giving them special attention, which is why NPCs seethe about Taiwan being dull and mundane instead of praising it for its Chinese authenticity. In my book, it's the visa-free China.

    >Istanbul is hilly Vegas for brown people.
I’m not sure I get this take at all. It is hilly, no question, but I don’t think the Vegas analogy holds. Vegas is barely over a century old and was built from nothing in a desert just for entertainment. What is now Istanbul has been occupied for close to two thousand years, it’s a strategic port city, and, among other things, there’s no gambling.

Do you just mean it’s a place Muslims go to drink beer? They do that all over Europe, too, among lots of other places.

    >Paris is just Dakar with expensive apartments.
Mouth-breather /misc/ take. Boring and lazy. And I doubt you have been to Dakar.

    >Lombok is a boring, halal Bali.
This one’s not too far off. Lombok is quite a lot more redneck/agricultural, too.

    >Abu Dhabi is Dubai without Slav hookers.
I’m sure you can find Slav hookers someplace in Abu Dhabi, although having said that, I think all the hookers I saw in Dubai were Asians, apart from one girl from Djibouti. I think of Abu Dhabi as Dubai’s square older brother, personally. And they’re both boring.

    >Most people that praise Thai food eat the same five dishes over and over again.
This could easily be true. But I also praise Thai food and have eaten nearly everything, including but not limited to a lot of insect and raw meat dishes. I don’t praise all of it.

    >The Italy of your imagination no longer exists.
Imaginary places never existed. I dig Italy, personally, although I may have been helped by first arriving as a kid, without a lot of preconceptions.

    >Tallinn is more beautiful than Helsinki.

Thailand is overcrowded with babies first backpacking trip roasties. Kao Song is basically shut down. Malaysia has better mountains. Langkawi and the Malaysian island just below the Thai isles are just as good if not better because not as crowded with instagram thots. Food is better in Malaysia because the country is split ethnically 1/3 Indian, 1/3 Chinese, 1/3 Malay. Penang is objectively the best food location in Asia. Only downside to Malaysia is Muslims and alcohol prices (but Langkawi is duty free so cheap booze). Even the Muslims there mind their own business though so it's not that big of a deal.

      >Florence is gay and boring
I would agree with this one, I got tired of Florence within 2 days
everything was overpriced and felt the same. oh another classical art gallery? another church? another convent? by the third day I was wishing one of the giant marble statues would topple over and turn me into a pizza
(seeing David was quite good however, it's really big and you can walk all around the statue. You can't really appreciate it from looking at photos)

also I'm vegetarian and everything there was steak, ugh

I think it attracts an older kind of tourist than me (probably 40s, whereas I am 20)

Rome on the other hand was super fun and I could have stayed there for my entire time in Italy

Also with Lithuania, Kaunas is where the real shit is at.

Klaipeda for nature, the city is fun and just across the water is the curonian spit which I doubt you could find an equally beautiful coast all along the baltic
Jurmala in Latvia definitely didn't compare

I know this is going to sound borderline reddit but did you really go to florence and only do the things every online "guide" suggests? The steak part is giving me that especially clearly, along with everything being overpriced.

well, we had 2 days, and my gf planned our itinerary (I had a large hand in planning Rome and changed it a lot from her initial plan which was just copied from a social media post)

did not actually eat steak or go to a steak restaurant but the majority of stuff on the street is all that
I must say in Rome almost every restaurant I went into felt great, even a small British-style pub/restaurant that had some really good pasta (other than some pizzeria my gf picked right next to the colosseum)

          so maybe

Well there's your problem. Next time go to Oltrarno and the gardens on both sides of piazzale michelangelo(not the piazzale itself, it's a hellhole). San Miniato al Monte while you're at it too. And the less a restaurant advertises their bistecca, the better it usually is. Osteria dell'Oca is one of my favorites in the city, and despite being so central is reasonably priced and favored by locals too.

the UK is the most convenient country to be a tourist in. free museums for the most part, little need to prebook things, train network is extensive and needs only one app to use. Im not as internationally cultured as you guys. not yet at least. Im learning spanish and will be traveling along mexico ,LatAm, and Spain for the second half of this year. With that being said here are my U.S travel announcements

The northeast is the worst region in the US, People sit on the south but outside of New York why the hell would I want to live there? OIts cold and the people are even colder. Not to mention they have the most rabid blacks (I say this as one)

Vegas sucks. I mean I know it's called sin city but it felt fake and gross.

Philly and LA are competing for the worst major cities in the U.S. Worst people by far

California is underappreciated because most the people suck.

The Midwest is probably the comfiest region. I get why people never leave their hometowns there.
Feel free to add your own. Its late and that all I could think of

The mountain west is the most beautiful place in the world and it isn't even close. It's the midwest but with gorgeous geography instead of wind and farms. The best way to travel throughout America is a roadtrip through them, something like Denver > Billings > Bozeman Salt Lake City > St George > Grand Canyon > fly out of Phoenix or something.

LA is worse than philly though both are ass.
