Why did you return home? I know nothing of visa processes, tourist stays, etc when it comes to Canada and Japan. I know of two people from here in the states that have been over in Japan for several years straight now...one teaches English and another works for a small financial firm....so they had job related stays.
Best thing I can say is ride out your time in Canada to do what you have to do...then go back when your Canadian obligations are over...maybe look for work-related ability to stay longer in Japan.

Also, if Japan is so great, why aren't Chinese and Indians flocking to there, instead of Canada. Stop acting like Canada isn't top 5 places in the world to live.

I remember visiting Japan for about a month in 2017. So clean, no homeless, everyone was respectful and polite.
Then back to Shitcouver. Standing in line, clearing customs, parents yelling at their children, everyone looking like they just stepped in dog shit, tatted up and angry. Immigration officer being needlessly aggressive.
Best just work on leaving this giant prison country. Gets worse every year.
