I have the same tip for most major European cities (especially London and Paris): don’t go for budget options, do not go for the cheapest hotel. Almost anywhere INSIDE Paris (not the suburbs, within the ring road) should be fine. All the recent chimpout happened in middle-sized cities and suburbs. Proper Paris only had 2 incidents that were very quickly contained.
Wealthier areas - which are not necessarily overly touristic - are usually safe from all the shithole aspect and in fact, they are still very decent. Yeah, it can get quite expensive, but this is how it is in 2023. You need to pay premium price more than ever.

I stupidly decided to go there in 2018 with my mother and my little sister and since both of them already went to Paris at least once they gave me a bunch of really shitty suggestions. The hotel my mother wanted was in some kind of shithole with almost only north africans in the middle of ramadan (and I'm saying this as a north african born and raised in France, that place was ghetto as frick), smelled like trash, was full of trash all over the ground, and the police was patrolling more often than I expected. And it was intramuros. The hotel looked disgusting and dusty as hell. A bunch of shit happened on top of that to ruin my trip but I was annoyed that my mother settled for less than the bare minimum just because she wanted to save like 50€ total on the hotel. When I went there for one weekend with friends the next year we picked a hotel that was clean and near a huge subway station, the trip went way better than the first time. I'd say everything depends one where you will stay in Paris specifically. Smaller cities I've visited didn't feel nearly as much like a giant tourist trap though besides Cannes and Nice.
