Thailand was so much better than Vietnam

Doing a visa run and decided to stay 2 weeks here
I've been here two days and people already tried to scam me like 5 times, didn't happen even once in Thailand
Also they gave me a bowl of peanuts with a beer and fricking charged me for the peanuts
It's really 3rd world over here like the sidewalk is just grass, trash littered everywhere, it smells bad like this is India but without the funny people
Nobody speaks English not even hotel managers and bartenders in the middle of Da Nang
No bars no 7/11 no restaurants, the best you get is a random shack with 2 plastic chairs giving you terrible beer (and the ice will probably give me aggressive diarrhea)
Da Nang is a fricking ghost town too for some reason, I walked 15 minutes in the most touristic part and i was almost the only tourist here
They're not nice like the Thai and look like they hate tourists

Of course there's always something to be said about "exploring" and "going off the beaten path" like a real traveler but i'm not going to pretend i'm not a tourist, having some basic infrastructure is always appreciated

Is it better elsewhere, maybe the capital, or should i just go back to Thailand early

No actually i came here so i would stop wasting money on girls for a while
I did expect to have the opportunity to waste money on bars and restaurants though, can't even do that apparently

Thailand is the only country i can tolerate in Asia. And not even whole Thailand is good. Poverty in some areas makes me depressed.

the further north in vietnam you go, the less tourists visit, the less english they speak and the more scammy they get

Welcome to Vietnam. While Thailand has professional scammers, you can generally trust the populace somewhat. Vietnam is all opportunists on the street trying to frick you over. Do not believe anything they say. The South is a bit better, I found people there are generally nicer and more honest.
Do not touch anything that isn't a chopstick or the food you've ordered. Anything else on the table is just bait you'll have to pay for. This includes even unintuitive things like a fricking wet tissue.
I've no idea what's up with Da Nang, was pretty lively when I went there. The hotel district wasn't too crowded but the beach was packed with Viets. Go to Hoi An if you miss seeing tourists.

Taxis lying about price, or locking door and announcing new ones, or driving in circles and such
Restaurants lying about their prices, giving you prices by the kg, and yeah baiting you by putting stuff on the table etc
Only other place i've seen this shit was Egypt

I've had the wet tissue thing too, i fell for it too (and to be honest how the frick do you eat prawns without wet tissues, especially when there is not a even fricking paper on the table)

Use grab, and dont shop at places that cater to dumb foreigners. Look for places where a bunch of viets are going, use translate for the menu or just point at something. Assume anything at a tourist center is being sold 2x or more the local price.

That will save you on 99% of 'scams'. Tourist traps are for looking, local markets and restaurants are for actual services. If theres 1/5 or more fellow foreigners, expect to pay a stupid price.

I have never been scammed in Vietnam and people were super friendly to me and this was in 2009 though. Travelled from south to north.
