Off to NYC at 10:30am. Government Travel advise states that you should be at least 4 hours at the airport before your flight. However I'm an early bird and would like to be at the airport before 6am. So I have a few options.
1. Stay at my brother's apartment but he lives in a student dorm and his room is tiny plus his place is 40 minutes from the airport and I dont wanna pay $45 as this would be apartment of my $2000 travel budget (I know how expensive NYC, I already spent $150 for hotel incidentals and the taxi to Manhattan). Plus hes a night owl
2. Book a hotel near the airport the day before and have a nice sleep. However I dont see the point checking out early at 5:30 and having a room.
3. Get public transport from the local train station to the airport but I dont feel comfortable walking around at night with a luggage 20 minutes from my brothers place to the train station as recently theres been high number of robberies and assaults at the big city.
Whats the best option for me? And do you always book a hotel room near the airport a night before a big flight?

Why can't you take a taxi?
just lay down for the night in the bushes somewhere near the airport, anon. it's free, and you'll be able to wake up and walk right into international departures. It'll serve you right for being a poorgay in NYC.
Just sleep at the airport. If you read headlines about people being mugged and self insert into that scenario as the victim you should really reevaluate your life
If you are so cheap why bother going at all, you could save your $2000 and not spend any of it. Or you could stay at your brother's place for free and ask him to drive you to the airport very early, you cheap motherfricker. What the frick are you asking anyway? You want to stay somewhere or you don't? You are too much of a pussy to sleep at the airport, so get a fricking room and eat ramen for the next month.

Just Uber to the train station. What kind of shithole city do you live in that has assaults at 5am?

i've stayed at a airport hotel a few times, arriving quite late and with an early flight. it has always been a good idea. i have no issue in staying up all night and skipping sleep when i have something on, but a night of just sitting at the airport, pre-check-in, would be grim.
waking up, showering then walking to the terminal is worth the money for no stress.
