Many countries banned entry to unvaccinated foreigners for extended periods of time. Sudden announcements of COVID restrictions in the past have left travelers with no time to change plans.
At least in the USA, I can always travel by land into Mexico. Getting only 17 pesos per dollar sucks, but it'd still be better than being locked down in some foreign country with international flights cancelled or extortionately expensive.

Take your /misc/shit somewhere else. I'm liberal, and everyone I know is liberal. The sorts of people still clamoring for COVID-related travel bans are a tiny minority of the overall population. Ain't nobody eager to go back to that shit any time soon.

Why, are the vaccines not working?

they did - at least the people who took them
the rest are suffering the repercussions of long covid and other long term effects from having covid

Mike Enoch and his crew were big supporters of the lockdowns and payouts because they could have stopped immigration, and felt the sudden right-wing anti-vax surge was just a glowop to make sure the replacement waves didn’t stop. If someone was spreading bullshit it wasn’t the alt-right

Nah. Too many people are sick of the thing. You'll have a group of people, if this goes through, who'll sit back at home and harp on everyone needs to stay home and mask up, but it's likely life will just carry on.

The only thing that I hope happens is it triples air fares again and makes it even more permanent.
Price zoomers, pensioned boomers, and zombiebrained middle-class mass tourists out of flying and travel will miraculously improve tenfold.

I want you to sit still and meditate on what all the shitty and horrible tourists you've encountered during your travels almost always have in common.
If you can't understand or accept that the absurd cheapness of plane tickets pre-pandemic and the modern obsession with telling other people you travel rather than actually enjoying travel, you're just part of the problem. Overtourism is a thing and it needs to die.

Seconded. Make traveling expensive enough so that morons like the Romanian antivax schizo won't be able to ever travel outside his town again.

while the overwhelming majority of people could not care less about the coof, there are STILL people who are isolating and have been since march 2020. that to me is fricking bananas, but a non-negligible portion of the population has been on some form of self imposed house arrest and shows no signs of stopping.

Florida was so kino during Covid. I spent three months there living normally while the rest of the boomers were glued to their TVs wondering what the random edict of the week was going to be

2020 to 2022 were peak travel years.

Also, this. I traveled non-stop throughout the pandemic. Between 2020 and 2022, I did:
      >Honduras
      >Mexico
      >Turkey
      >Pakistan
      >Colombia
      >Thailand
      >India
... and several other countries. Got business tickets from CDMX to Chicago O'Hare for $250, one-way, and a QSuite from Lahore to Chicago O'Hare for less than $900 (after applying a ~$900 travel credit). Also did business from JFK to Delhi for $1500.

Pandemic was unironically fantastic for people with remote jobs who were willing to travel.

Went to Iceland in summer 2020, hotels were ridiculously cheap, by Icelandic standards.
Stayed in 4 stars hotels for “only” 100-130 bucks per night, which is bonkers for Icelandic standards.
I went to several other European countries as well, it was very nice but Iceland was the best because it was truly empty.

Rona was kino and actually good for our society in the long term. For one, the rise of remote work. A second wave (hopefully deadlier to boomers) would be even better.

There were definitely some homosexual republicans that loved the mask and vax. But anti trump people were the most deranged demographic in regards to COVID. You can't pretend otherwise.
