Traveling to thailand in november
Can you help me fill my plans?
I plan to book a room in BKK for 3 days, just to find a place to stay and search for a tourist guide on the place to visit the temples and palace, then move to some beach, I got suggested patong/puhket/samui, but not sure where to go. I have about 2 weeks, -2 days to fly there.
I'm mostly interested because it's a warm place with cool beaches and there isn't that much crime.

          Why so angry...
I don't do many plans in general when traveling, but I never went so far too.
My parents died a few years ago, so I care very little about people's opinions, I think it's a good time to live life and exit my comfort zone (EU).
I'd go somewhere closer, but I really hate cold places when I'm on a holiday, that's why I mostly go on holidays on summer.

And I listed the places I want to visit: BKK, a sea city.
I wanted to ask about the various places to visit there, which temples, royal palace, river markets(?), islands near the sea, snorkeling, hiking near the coast?

I should just hire a tourist guide, you guys are so spiteful, this board wasn't like this before...
when I was visiting france and Spain people were actually helpful a few years ago.

if you've never been its fun.

i got frustrated after a while because I couldn't communicate. in mexico i can tell them to fug themselves in spanish if they're giving me tourist prices.

There are sweet people in thailand, but they're not serving tourists directly usually. Have to get out a bit.

Also, if you want a 1 sentence summary of the thailand experience.

I had a layover in Japan and because of covid they're all walking me to the right place and everything. The lady checks my stuff and sees im going to bangkok and was like lmaooo.

Bangkok is super cool, Phuket is cool if you rent a moped (maybe demand to pay extra for a real helmet... even if it's $5 a day).

At least you can fly out of phuket. It was fun.. for at least a few days.. Probably avoid drinking more than once a week tbh. Might end up getting depressed.

Whaat would i do i went back?? I'd date 5 girls at once in Bankgwiener obviously, and hit up private massage mamasans.

Then I'd go to a different country.

i went during covid lockdowns so there were almost no tourists and the countrys tourism industry was on fire.

i hated the tourist leeches so goddamn much. im not paying $10 for your indian food pajeet in phuket. definitely haggle them frick $10. A really good chicken salad is like $4.

I go to bangkok mall, get fricking really really good food for $6, or maybe $30 for a luxury meal. Maybe I hit up an italian place and the italian owner introduces himself and I spend $30 on that.

I spent $30 on chinese food in the mall and i came back and my chinese friend was jealous like wtf, you ate there?!

Apparently it was a famous restaurant. If you look at the economic history of thailand they had a huge flood of outside investments, and a subsequent crash, and then a gov regime change. So bangkok is well established because stuff was already built..

It's mexico outside of bangkok, good mostly.

There is a long distance between Bangkok and Phuket/Samui, so be prepared to fly there and back from BKK, thus reducing the number of days for holidays even further. Basically you are just down to 10 days of holidays. Either skip the first 3 days in BKK and fly directly to Phuket or find a beach within driving distance from BKK, such as Hua Hin or Pattaya/Jomtien.
As for tourist guide, use the website getyourguide to book guided tours or find a bargirl to be your guide.

I took a 14 hour train to some city from bkk overnight with a bed/room for $13 was kinda cooool. Then a 5 hour bus ride to phuket which was only 100+ miles lmaoo.

There's no freeways. At least planes are only like $13 but it's a bit challenging to get to the airport, especially you get banned from the taxi app.

If you miss your grab? ride like once or be in wrong spot they'll downvote you and you'll never get picked up again

Phuket has literally no taxis when i went, and i was banned from grab so..

I got a moped which was super moronic dangerous and I have a motorcycle license. No helmet, people passing me on turns in the mountains, etc.. Theres this shop ran by an australian near patong beach and just insist to pay more for a good helmet he probably has one. It'd be worth even $5 a day.

That was actually fun riding a moped around the island... mhmm

how hard is it to learn how to ride a moped if youve never riden one? living in phuket and just driving around the island for dates, restaurants, beaches sounds so fun

                Anonymous

It's not hard to ride but it is a moronic idea to start in thaialnd. You will 100% get hit by someone and lose half your skin on the road or simply die. It's not worth it.

Mopeds are easy to learn. It’s just a heavy bicycle which you move with your wrist instead of your feet. I wouldn’t use one in a tourist area though. Police will ticket you just for being on a moped. In quieter areas you’re fine.

Do I have to worry about crocodiles? I really want to go to Thailand, but Im really scared of crocodiles and I think they have them. Do they ever come out of the water?

Thailand only has freshwater crocodiles, and even those are nearly extinct. You'll be safe.

There are fricktons of monitor lizards everywhere. I remember watching them come out of the rivers eating fish they caught. So cozy. Never went to the south, but the ruins in Thailand are great too. Lots of them outside of the main tourist ones, but it's hard to get to since everything is Thai outside of tourist zones.

That is an extremely neurotic fear, i swam everywhere i went.

The truth is its not hard but you kinda have to go with the flow of everything and relax while also not being a pussy. The best way is to think of mopeds and traffic in general is as schools of fish, if you catch my drift.
It was definetly a highlight of the the trip, kino asf, went on alot of dates with b***hes riding on my back. Problems?
You can easily die. Foreigners die all the time in Thailand from accidents, real shit.
I had a 3 day fling with a b***h that drove me around, got a tour guide of Chiang Mai. Find something like that or just get cabs.

Thailand is no fun as a tourist I will tell you right now. If you aren’t going with a thai woman then find one as quickly as possible when you’re there even if you’re not serious about dating. It’s a long way to go just to walk around tourist traps.

Stealing this thread. Where do i take a non-hooker thai girl during the day in Phuket? She will be a tourist there also.

out of the tourist area for a drive through the mountains, and find a nice family restaurant near a neighborhood where the food is $4.

besides that and the beaches... phuket is really small

Skip BKK - everyone hates it their first few times. Chiang Mai / Ciang Rai Pai are ok for a few days.
Jungles are overrated - it's just a sweaty forest full of stuff that wants you to die.
The islands are pretty cool Koh Phagnan is beautiful.
Don't go to Pattaya unless you like watching fat middle aged brits drooling on children.

    >go to book accommodation in thailand for january
    >booking websites keep telling me most things are booked out already
I guess the 3 month rule doesn't really apply to Bangkok?

      Anonymous

wait frick are you supposed to book so early? How bad will it be if I don't exactly know when I'm going until it's like 1 month away?

        Anonymous

You don't have to, plenty of people just rock up and book on arrival.
The two reasons to do it early are 1. choosing a good place, if you just go wherever you might end up in a dive, and 2. as you get closer to the date the supply is lower so the prices go up.
You can just go place to place completely winging it but you'll have more hassles and pay more. One month out you'll be fine but the same applies compared to booking earlier.
I was exaggerating when I said most places, I was just annoyed that a lot of places I liked the look of were already booked out, limiting my choices. Usually you have a lot of choice 3 months out.

Is it worth stopping at one of the tourist-oriented muay thai gyms for a few classes? I did a month of lessons in the US last year, and I think it would be a fun thing do in Thailand when not cooming.
