Hi, I traveled during the last Government shut down. Here's what happens. TSA will show up, so will air traffic control. There may be more delays, there may also be longer screening times. Flights will continue to land, & depart.
Also, we don't know for sure if the Government will shut down. It's likely a bill will be passed that will allow for additional funding to keep things open another 45 days.

airports are not "shutting down". even if there is no ATC, which there will be, pilots are still trained to land at untowered airports. quite famously KMDW in Chicago, one of the busiest in the country, didn't have any ATC in the tower due to a covid outbreak. pilots still landed.
