I’m flying out to Vegas in a few hours and need some advice. I know not to even touch the minibar/mini fridge because they will buttrape you with fees but how common is it to grab a styrofoam cooler full of beer and snacks up to your room? Is the strip walkable? Do restaurants require reservations or can you walk in? I don’t plan on doing much gambling so I’m probably going to see a few shows and concerts. Any recommendations?
Stock up on booze at the Target or Walgreens near the MGM. Don't use the hotel stores, there's a reason they hide all the prices.
The strip is walkable but it'll probably wear you out if you try to walk it all at once (I did 11 miles one day when I last went and I only did one half of it). Getting a Las Vegas monorail pass can save a lot walking and there are a couple of other hidden away free monorails that go between 3 or so hotels each that also save on walking.
You'll possibly want an uber to Fremont street and Circus Circus as they're both awkward to get to and stopped their free busses (Ubers are quick and easy in general in vegas).
For the shows, there're cirque du solei's at loads of the hotels so you can decide on which one interests you. I think Paris is still doing Bat out of Hell the musical, which is a stupid but reasonably fun jukebox musical (you obviously need to like Meatloaf to enjoy it), assuming it's the same one as in the West End.
If in doubt, get a reservation. When I went most restaurants were allowed people to walk up but you may have to wait to get texted for a table. As with Cirque Du Soleil, lots of hotels offer their own versions of celeb chef restaurants (with tiny menus so they don't cross over ). I think most people would recommend going to the hotel's unique places over these (although I quite liked Guy Fieri's burger place in the Linq, even if it did have a weirdly tiny selection of drinks which meant they just gave you a jug of tap water before you even asked). Buffets are incredibly overpriced now, the expensive ones are good but you'll need to consider that PP they cost the same as a high end restaurant and that you could save money stuffing your face at a mid tier place.
is better to get the bus or monorail. I'm staying in the Aria for 5 days.
From the Aria, you'll have to walk across the Blvd to access the monorail. If I remember correctly, you'll also have to pass through another casino's floor to get there. However, it definitely helps save on walking since the Strip, despite being a straight road, is frustrating to navigate when it is full of people under the influence of different substances.
As far as snacks/drinks go, it's perfectly reasonable to hit up a CVS to stock up and just go about it that way. That's honestly how I did most of my drinking last time since I'm a skinflint who hates paying $13 for a domestic beer inside of a casino
>walking and at Aria
youre in the center of the strip just walk the street like a normal person its fine but can get crowded. The monorails are at odd ends of the casinos and are a waste of time if u just wanna go from one end to the other.
rent a car. they’re cheaper in vegas than most other cities and you’ll save so much money going off strip that it’ll basically pay for itself.
Chinatown (Spring Mountain road just west of the strip) has amazing restaurants for great prices. When you’ve finished with your meal you can pop next door for a rub n tug.
If you’re into SighSee then Red Rock Canyon is only 15-20 min drive west and very scenic. But I prefer Valley of Fire about an hour northeast. Both will be incredible if you’re not familiar with desert landscapes.
The strip is perfectly walkable if you’re in half decent shape but don’t underestimate the distances. Something could look like it’s just down the road but when you’ve got to climb stairs and cross bridges or dip in and out of casinos at every intersection it adds up.
There’s cvs and walgreens every block and even one target on the strip. That’s the place to get your sundries if you don’t have a car, but if you do get a car, there’s some great liquor stores with a really wide variety.
If your hotel doesn’t have an empty mini fridge for the guests, you can call down the front desk and tell them that you need a fridge for your medication, they’ll send one right up without any further questions.
Restaurants generally won’t require reservations but if there’s somewhere you really want to go it can’t hurt to make one, especially if it’s a busy weekend. Worst case, you just bail on your reservation.
And get a frozen baileys at O’Sheas in the Linq promenade.
>how common is it to grab a styrofoam cooler full of beer and snacks up to your room?
It's very common and is the most economical thing to do. Get your booze this way instead of paying $9/beer or $20/drink. Use the ABC Stores that are all over or use the CVS/Target/Walgreens like the other anon said. I think the ABC Stores have better prices and selection but any will probably work.
>Is the strip walkable?
Yes but the blocks on the strip are bigger than they seem. It will take you like an hour or so to walk from the Venetian down to Luxor for example. If you are going somewhere for a nice steak dinner or something, just take the $8 Uber IMO. Or play boomer for the weekend and rent one of the rascal scooters and scoot around.
>Do restaurants require reservations or can you walk in?
It depends on when you are there. During Friday/weekend, it will be very busy and you will likely need them. During the week, you can easily do walkins to most places unless there are lots of conferences in town. All of them use OpenTable or whatever it is so it's easy to do a reservation and cancel if you need.
There is free liquor in literally every strip casino, if you put at least $10 into the bar mounted card machines the bartender will put a folded receipt into a cup in front of you and bring free mix drinks like screwdrivers until you pass out. Go to any bar, play the five card poker game, min bet is like 10 cents, play slowly for an hour getting unlimited comped drinks, tip bartender a couple dollars then go do whatever your plans are.
The only way to fuckup is by playing too fast or betting over minimum. Optimally you spend maybe $2 on games, $2 on tip, get 8 comped drinks and walk away.
The nicer casinos will have servers walking around giving comped drinks to people playing slots and roulette too. Never buy your own alcohol.
Do they still have the Star Wars VR there? I'm not into capeshit but it was pretty cool when I went before covid
What are the strip clubs like? My wife wants to go to one. I’ve been to clubs before but not in vegas
Oddly enough for sin city none are real close to the strip and they’re especially expensive because of being in Vegas despite being worse than the shady club in your town with the 9 dollar omelette brunch
>how common is it to grab a styrofoam cooler full of beer and snacks up to your room?
Very. Once you check into your hotel the first thing you should do is get a case of beer at a local CVS/Walgreens.
>Is the strip walkable?
Yes, but if you're going to the other end of the strip it's worthwhile to just get an Uber.
>Do restaurants require reservations or can you walk in?
When it doubt it doesn't hurt to have one, but most places take walk ins.
>I don’t plan on doing much gambling so I’m probably going to see a few shows and concerts. Any recommendations?
Can't go wrong with any of the Cirque du Soleil shows. I saw Blue Man Group last time I was in Vegas and that was pretty fun, especially if you drink/blaze beforehand
I freaking love this place bros. Everything’s within walking distance and everyone’s in a partying mood. Expensive as shit though.
I got here on a 737 too. No fucking around with cazadors or deathclaws. Ain’t that a kick in the head.
>Formerly Chuck's
It's a shame none of the photos I did at night came out. All got reflectioned (should have turned off the room light)
Probably easy, but wonder if people can guess my hotel
Easy... Flamingo. Do you like staying with all the blacks there? Or are you black?
Yep. There were a lot of black people, and they were fucking loud
Stay at Cosmo, Wynn, Palazzo, Nomad, or Aria to avoid *most* of the blacks.
You can see the Tropicana sign in the bottom of the picture. Excalibur is on the the other side of Las Vegas Blvd.
Wrong image anon
>Probably easy, but wonder if people can guess my hotel
Tropicana Las Vegas
>Tropicana Las Vegas
Nope
If it's across the street from MGM Grand & Hakkasan, and it's NOT Tropicana, then maybe it's Excalibur?
Where are good places to gamble if I’m a (relatively) poorfag? I mostly wanna play blackjack and roulette
Ellis Island
Downtown Vegas
El Cortez downtown is always good when you want to gamble cheap. In the mid 2000's, the table minimums were $1-2 for craps, roulette and blackjack during the week.
Ellis Island
Silver Sevens
El Cortez
Even most downtown casinos are $25 tables on weekends these days. Ellis Island and Silver Sevens almost always have $10 available
if you want to gamble cheap you shouldn't gamble in vegas. go to reno or an indian casino in your home state
indian casino's suck. go to reno.
i have a few nice Indian casinos in my state, all about 20-30 miles away
what state? I am in MN and they only have slot machines and blackjack with the most unfriendly dealers you ever met.
i live in CA
Thoughts on Arizona’s Indian casinos? I’m visiting for work in a few weeks.
They're casinos bro. Casinos are all the same.
You go to a casino to pick up hookers, not to gamble.
Why is it always an old white man picking up below-average looking black women?
I used to love Vegas but last time I went there I felt like they were stealing from me.
I'm a gambling addict, I'll straight up give it to you.
That's what's so fucking irritating with Vegas. I brought $1500 cash to spend, stop trying to rip me off. All it ultimately did was mean I found it really easy to budget and barely put anything on my card because I don't like getting overly ripped off.
At least other holiday destinations that rip you off like Disney rip you off on things that you can't get elsewhere and try to make you smile with your over-priced purchases.
For real
Wife and I took like $3,000 cash and I ended up putting another $750 on my room credit card.
>$35 resort fee
>$50 early check in fee
>$20+ cocktails
>everyone who helps you wants a tip
>everyone else is trying yo hustle you
At the end of the day I just want to get sauced at a card table, see some shitty cover bands, eat a nice meal or two and escape the rat race for a weekend. But dealing with the Vegas bullshit has become so exhausting that you just give in eventually or stop going altogether
Lets get the elephant in the room out of the way.
>Is prostitution legal in Nevada?
Yes only in certain parts of the county but its illegal in the entirety of the las vegas region
>But my buddy said he paid $1,000 for this smoking hot hooker
Yes these working girls roam the Casino bar/club scene for lonely men and "proposition" them
>If illegal prostitution are that prevalent in casinos why isn't casino doing anything about them?
Because hookers (along with other sins like gambling and drinking) are part of the lure in vegas so casinos and hookers have a mutual understanding
>How do i go about finding a hookers without getting arrested or losing a kidney?
There should be plenty of hooker vegas guides on reddit to help you out
Vegas is unironically the worst place for cooming.
This.
Stay away from the black prostitutes that prowl the casino floors at night. They are run by violent pimps who will fuck you up.
>They are run by violent pimps who will fuck you up.
I mean all of the hookers that roam the casino floors are looking to rob you or otherwise take advantage of you somehow.
This. Expensive as hell just like all of Vegas. You're paying the outrageous hotel costs as it is, why put yourself deeper in the hole when escorts/whores in Vegas are more expensive than anywhere else in the US?
For a sleazy place, it's oddly expensive to get your dick wet. Better off going to a cheaper state, or better yet, a cheaper country.
Enjoy Vegas though.
go to their lunches
What is cheaper: travel from LA to the Strip or the other way around? I'm planning a trip where I HAVE to go both places and I'm not really sure how expensive is to travel on bus/train/flight between the two cities or if there are cheaper alternatives, I don't mind uncomfortable rides and I'm not fat if that matters
Round trip flights to Vegas are subsidized by the casinos so they are the cheapest option.
It's a shame that most casinos are more interested in night clubs and pool parties than gambling now. The Wynn was great when it opened, but last time I stayed there it was full of Calvin Harris bros who would sleep 8 in a room meant for 2 and talk about cabanas and bottle service a lot.
Totally agree with the anon further up that renting a car opens up a lot of cool stuff. Shame that so many casinos now charge for parking on top of all the other shit.
Personally, I like the dive bars and shitty strip clubs like 'Talk of the Town' over the overpriced glitzy places. There are so many great food places away from the strip, but taxis probably cost the most per mile in the world.
Bottle service is retarded. How did they ever convince normies to pay $500 for a 35 dollar bottle of grey goose and some redbulls?
Status
>bottle service in Vegas
>only $500
Lol. Lmao even. Try $5k
I haven't been to a club in Vegas since 2009 lmao
casinos boy
pinball hall of fame. play pinball circus, only working copy in the world.
I'm going to Vegas next week and we're staying at the Luxor, like 3 miles from the airport but everything I'm seeing says it will cost at least $20 each way.
I'm worried the path is not going to be the most walkable, especially with the F1 renovations.
Probably just going to walk
get a segway
Dear Lord. You're going to Vegas and you can't afford $20 to get from the Airport. to your hotel You aren't going to have a good time. Enjoy your room at the Luxor. They haven't been renovated since about 1993. You'll get a really nice variety of bed bugs, head lice and fungus from tourists all over the world in your room.
Agree with you about getting there from the airport, just get a cab or Uber the walk is long and it sucks.
But Luxor has been renovated in the past couple years and even has some hand-me-down furniture from Bellagio. If you don't know what you're talking about don't act like you do and try to give advice.
LOL. I'm sure the furniture that Bellagio tossed in the garbage is super nice....Here's a review of the Luxor posted April 1st this year. It sounds like a really fancy place if you don't mind mold, dried cum, a hallway covered in garbage and elevators that don't work.
Luxor is the only Vegas casino I've stayed in that I didn't care for. It wasn't a terrible experience, but I wouldn't stay there again unless it was free.
I honestly feel the themed hotels (circus cirucs, luxor and excalibur) are the shittiest hotels and they all scaled back on the thematics in the interiors. Not sure entirely why they did but in example the Excalibur used to have a bunch of hanging stain glass chandeliers that were massive and a wide variety of table games down the center and the luxor had a bunch of egyptian statues but it looked more like a bare bones hyatt when I walked through in 2021 last
if they werent shit id probably opt to stay at the mandalay bay more but I hate walking through them to get to the rest of the strip and just stay at bellagio/aria/nobu now
I'm not above staying at a shitty hotel. I've stayed at Harrahs and IP a few times and liked them... but Luxor is a bad location for my interests in Vegas. The poker room (closed now) only had 8/16 limit hold em, the time share fags were obnoxious, the club LAX (also closed) was hyped to be amazing and was wack, a shot waitress gave me warm vodka when I requested rumpleminze and I almost barfed in the middle of the casino floor, the book wouldn't put on the game I wanted. The room was old and run down more than what I was expecting.
It wasn't one big bad experience but a bunch of minor annoyances adding up. After the first night we didn't even spend any time in there just to avoid the time share fags.
whats ur favorite poker room anon, my buddy always makes me go to Venetian but I feel its hit an miss, Bellagio also. I really like Wynn's but all the above options get soo fucking packed but maybe were just going in the wrong parts of the season and we end up waiting 1-2hrs for 3/5 NLH
Aria is a good poker room. You get lots of wealthy drunk people who don't want to wait for a 5/10 NL spot and play 1/2. Westgate also has a small but solid poker room, I've enjoyed playing there. It's mostly locals who suck
Bellagio is always nice. $500 cap 2/5 is cool. I've played a lot at Harrahs and Mirage but they're sadly gone now. Ballys/Horseshoe isn't bad either.
What's the average chip stack at 2/5 500 cap? I hate buying in for the max and being the short stack by 150BB
Most buy in for the 100xbb max. Everyone had 500-1000 when I sat.
I played 1/3 in my hometown last week. Bought in for 250 and everyone had at least 700. One guy had almost 2000. Hate that shit.
All my 1/2 and 1/3 games have moved to match the stack too. It's basically 2/5 and sometimes 5/10 depending upon how many retired richfags are sitting that day. Nothing like $35 opens when your sitting 100xbb deep.
One thing that really pissed me off about Vegas was there was almost NO low to mid limit baccarat tables that I saw. Is that not a thing anymore? Sure they had baccarat but it was computerized and I'm not playing that. I'm also not about to sit at $100 min tables in their baccarat lounges either. I'll play 25-50 but I can't afford $100 min.
people sometimes have 1000 or 1500, I usually enter with 500
Try to hop a shuttle bus or limo. I've done both for $5. Granted it was a decades ago.
>staying at the Luxor
>worried about Uber fees
You're going to have done a shitload of walking by the end of your holiday given you're at one side of the strip and most of the free shuttles don't exist any more.
Anyhow, my Uber from the airport to the Flamingo cost me $20.40 (+tip). There are busses and shuttles but ultimately an Uber was easy as fuck.
Can't you get a bus pass pretty cheap that takes you to all the major destinations?
It's a couple of bucks but it stops like every 50 feet to let tweakers and pill heads off and on.
Is Circus Circus a good place to stay? I’ve never been to Vegas but I just finishing a backpacking trip and I’m hitching to Vegas to fly home. Looking on Priceline right now and Circus Circus looks affordable and nice. I see the one comment about it being off the beaten path but that doesn’t matter to me. Any better options?
It's generally considered one of the worst resorts on strip. It's run down and ancient, full of poor people and kids and the rooms, especially in the motel in the back, are horrid. You're better off spending a few bucks more and staying at Excalibur or even Casino Royale.
This, the rooms will smell like feet and are a good place to pick up bed bugs.
Treasure Island or Signature at the MGM Grand tend to be the best value, if you like that sort of thing.
If you're trying to do Vegas on the cheap though and aren't insistent on staying at a casino, then I say dodge the rip-off report fees and stay somewhere like a Hyatt, Holton or Wyndham.
Is there anywhere to take a shower in Vegas if you’re just rolling through and not staying at a bed bug breeding ground? Asking for a friend…
>best pho is Viet Noodle Bar in Chinatown
>tacos Gordos on the strip is the cure for late night intoxication or mid morning hangovers
>jardin has a good selection and sexy girls behind the counter
>rent a car
>or buy the 24 hour pass for the bus and be prepared to see some shit
Renting a car is expensive shit. Use the monorail and Uber.
you can do it for like $70 a day you poorfag. not leaving the strip will cost you way more than that with inflated strip prices. and the monorail only goes from mgm grand to sls and is still $15/day, not even remotely worth it. especially when there are free trams on the other side of the street from mandalay-luxor-excalibur, park mgm-aria-bellagio, and mirage-treasure island
My man. Viet Noodle House has the best vermicelli chicken bowl Ive ever eaten. They cook on a charcoal grill. You ever try Shish Kabob House on West Flamingo? The $12 chicken lula Kabob plate is the best meal you'll eat in Vegas. The Joey's NY Pizza in Summerlin is really fucking good too. It's one of the few legit NY pizza places on the west coast.
I'm thinking of making vegas a stop on a road trip. How bad of an idea is it to be there with my own car? Will I get assraped on parking everywhere I go?
Not at all, it'll make things much easier.
It used to be free to park at pretty much any casino, but MGM rolled out paid parking to most casinos, then other casinos followed. Apparently, it was because too many locals where using the casino parking instead of paying for airport parking, then leaving their car their for days and weeks.
Now though, the Wynn and Encore are free, the Venetian, Circus Circus and a few more big ones. Just google to be sure before you go. I'd park at the Wynn if you're visiting the strip, as you'll probably want to go into the Wynn and Encore casinos anyway.
Having a car really opens up some of the stuff away from the strip, particular great food, and taxis so expensive for the distance so a lot of people never leave the main tourist spots.
>single 30s
>don't want to gamble
>3-4 days
>just want to see the sights and walk down the street sipping a yard stick
any recommendations? might would try a call girl too. I've never done that.
don't buy hookers in Vegas. its absurdly overpriced compared to literally anywhere else in the world.
even the ones on skipthegames? I'd sort of just want to do it for the experience
>skipthegames
jesus christ man, hell no. have some goddamn self respect and at least use Tryst or Eros.
If you're not into gambling, then you can still watch the numerous shows (concerts, performers, etc.) they have. If you're into guns, you can try out the gun ranges. Depending on where you're from, you can try guns that you normally wouldn't get to shoot. If you're into food at all, Vegas has really good and/or interesting stuff to try out.
Like the other anon said, hookers are ill-advised in Vegas-proper. It's illegal, so if anything shitty happens to you, you won't have a leg to stand on. A common scam they run is they send over one that is very ugly and looks nothing like the pictures, and whether you do her or not, an angry black man is gonna be knocking at your door until you pay up. It's bad enough they embarrass you like this, but ripoffs are their game.
Technically, it's legal in a different county that is close to Vegas, but not actually in Vegas itself. It's still overpriced, but if you have to do it, then do it there.
Gambling isn't even that good in Vegas anymore unless you're a whale or a poker player.
Was really disappointed at the slots in vegas. 4-5 base types of slots that make up about 95% of the machines, very few fun gimmicky slots and the payout rates are really terrible.
The £500 slots at my local town centre are more fun and have more variety.
Same
PH's slots were shit. 95% hold and spin lightning link slots. Paris and Bellagio have a little better selection. I won't even play hold and spin slots.
They've just kinda fucked up the "vegas experience". Buffets are now limited and insanely expensive, most of the casinos belonging to 2 companies has killed the variety (same machines, all have Gordon Ramsey and Cirque du Soleil, the shops are all the same dozen or so luxury brands that 95% of people won't even go inside).
They're in a cycle of "visitors are down... we should squeeze more out of them!". Vegas has always tried to rinse you but it did so suckering you in with gifts and luxury. Now everything costs and it costs insane amount with you feeling ripped off the second you get on to the strip.
Like I've said in several Vegas threads. I felt like last trip they were straight up stealing from me.
I go to drink my ass off, gamble and maybe have one nice meal. I want to be a degenerate for a few days and then return home. But it gets exhausting when everyone is trying to hustle you every 3 feet along the way all weekend long.
The only real reason to play slots was because you could spend little and the girls would come around and get you free premium drinks.
Casinos are now reducing their slots because fewer people are playing them, but then they accelerated that by reducing the quality and availability of the free drinks being offered.
Sadly, most casinos are just gradually turning into nightclubs. The youngsters would rather spend their money on 'experiences' like the pool parties and just take photos in the casino pretending to gamble for social media.
Is caesars palace good to stay in? I dont care about gambling I just want to experience the vibe
Nice hotel and a handy central location (just have to cross over to the Flamingo to get the monorail).
Expensive though.
Caesars is a cool place but it's fucking gigantic and a constant river of people. I've been 7 times to Las Vegas and my last trip was the first time I've ever gambled there.
My parents and grandparents tell stories about going to Vegas back in the day and getting a nice room for $50 a night, plus unlimited free drinks if you gamble and $2 steak and egg breakfasts. Now that same shit costs $600/day
What's also sad is the decline of the craps table.
Every Vegas movie seems to show people having fun socialising and playing craps, but there are fewer and fewer tables in Vegas and a lack of people that seem to want to play, I think because they're intimidated by it because they don't know how to play, as it's pretty rare to find a craps table in other cities due to the number of staff and floorspace required, so there's little opportunity to practice before people go to Vegas.
I definitely recommend looking up how to play before you go as best as you can. The dealers are always super helpful at teaching if you go when it's not busy. It's a great social game and there's a real buzz when everyone on the table is winning, plus you don't burn through money like you do with some other games.
Craps has a few problems. I worked at the Bellagio in Vegas for 2 years. It's the hardest game to work. They only put the best dealers and supervisors on it. It also has the worst house take. I saw the numbers on most days. It was always insanely busy and it made a fraction of what the blackjack tables would make with significantly less people. It's also the game with the most cheating. All the action is distracting. People grab chips from other players, from the table, sneak bets out, hide chips, slide dice etc. Casino's see it as more of a hassle. It was one of the few games where I saw a significant number of big winners on a daily basis. But they have to have it to bring in a lot of the whales. Bellagio kept the minimum bet on most weekends to $25 on all 3 tables when I was there.
What about ~~*bubble craps*~~???
