Walked from Tokyo to Kitakyushu, because why not. Never walked across a country, and I've been multiple times in Japan, with bicycle & japan rail pass, and just holiday. Japan has a lot of pilgrim routes and I did parts of them. Convenience stores everywhere is pretty nice too. I camped on the way, in cities some hotels/hostels.
Usually move by bicycle, and next trip with it will be through Balkans, Bulgaria, Romania.
Problem with walking is that it does get boring. Most I did in a day was something like 50km, but still it's a slog. Not a lot of people to talk to. Not that I always want to talk to anyone, but going for weeks without any social interaction is not that great.
I cycled parts of this, from Bilbao to Santiago de Compostela, and I know few people who have done it. It's very popular, so a lot of people, and a lot of boring normies. Safe bet though if you don't want to be alone and want hotels/guesthouses always on the way.
At 45yo my father decided to leave his home (Switzerland) and walk 30 days to south of France. Around 700 kilometers so about 5 hours a day.
Problem is that a crazy ex gf heard about it and thought he had marriage issues, decided to stalk him and "randomly" meet him on the way.
He had to spend a day walking with her and a night with his tent next to hers, but the next night woke up at 4am, silently packed his shit and walked for 12 hours straight to make sure she couldn't catch up.
Then after 30 days when he saw the see he cried on his knees from emotion so that was worth it I guess.
